Go Somewhere Else!
In search of a course to play while traveling I discovered The Patch. Based on reviews, testimonies, promotional pieces and pictures I desided to give it a try. Basically, this is the worse course I have ever played. The tee boxes are sand pits, the fairways aren't fairways at all and the greens were attrocious. I was shocked at what I experienced in comparison to what I saw/read in my research. If the course is under-going an overhaul and rework, then fine. But state that up front. Let the potential golfers know that the course is a disaster, the fairways are rock hard, the greens are very rough and there is basically no grass on the tee boxes. All I can say is, 'been there, done that, won't do it again'.
Pretty Good in my eyes
I am visiting the area and caught a heck of a deal on golfnow that I could not pass up. Not sure why all the negative reviews the course seems really well taking care of with nice challenging greens and beautiful fairways. I'm still new to the game and imagine there are nice courses around here but you cannot beat the bang for your buck. The staff was very welcoming and friendly! I will definitely be playing here again before I leave.
OK for the money
Club house was very nice and the staff very friendly. Tee boxes need a lot of work. The greens are very small and very hard. I enjoyed the round but I was spoiled by playing Pineridge the day before.
Save your money
This course is by far the worst I have ever played. This isn't even fit for a 30 handicap. I was in town for the Masters and made the mistake of thinking I was going to get a small small sample of Augusta. I was so wrong. I've never seen a course in such poor shape. T boxes were completely tore up. 90% of every box was sand and fairways were nothing more than beaten down pasture land! Save your money, wrists and sanity.
Time at the Patch.
Nice course to try and get my game back. Have not played in some time. Retired Military I have played around the world so I enjoy the game.
Below average
It's a great course to practice on. Not in great shape but good value.
Training course
This course is excellent to keep your game sharp mainly because of the smallish greens. There are several with bunkers in front with the green sloping away from the approach shot. To be able to hole these greens require a great shot. With the new management team in place the course has improved greatly from the beginning of the year. Keep up the good work.
A Course on the Way Back
Earlier this year the Augusta Commission turned over management of the Patch to Cypress Golf Management, a very wise move. Since July 1, when Cypress assumed control, there has been amazing improvement of the course, especially the fairways, greens and bunkers. This is not to say there isn't a lot of work left to do, but for those of us who play the Patch frequently, it has once again become a pleasant experience to go and play 18 holes of golf on a course that is being managed and maintained the way a golf course should. One other thought: the change in the staff's attitude is so refreshing. From the course manager to the cart man - and everyone in between - employees are friendly and helpful. What a change!
Needs work
The greens are in terrible condition, fairways had no grass, and many of the water hazards were dry and the tee boxes were not level and very sandy. Could be a nice course with some serious work.
The Patch
the right name for this place it is patched together no greens or tee boxes to speak of forget about putting all together its a real shame nice layout sad conditions
The Patch
Much improved course conditions since first visit earlier this year.
augusta municipal
The course looked to be in much better shape than a couple months ago. They are working hard to improve it. Will play again as Long as is continues to improve.
Good layout
I was told to stay away from this course. I was glad I didn't. Layout is really amazing. You could tell it was built 100 years ago.
Looks like they are working hard on restoring it. Can't wait to come back and see it again next time I come up.
If you like old school courses it's worth the play.
horrible course
The course is in terrible shape. I will not be returning, worst golf course I have ever seen.
Give it time: I guess….
I hear after being there that the course is under new management. Not worth $20 for 18, not even $15. The course is not in good shape. I can not say much of anything positive so I will just stop here.
Great course for beginners or those wanting to refine their game!
We are beginners, actively taking lessons, and wanted to play a course that we would have time to practice our technique. This course has a group managing it now, trying to get money into it and people playing so improvements can be made. The course itself is a nice course and enjoyable--it needs some improvements, but it also needs support of people to play it so MONEY comes in. The staff was SO nice and friendly--everything was so simple and perfect for us as we learn skills. Grass was high on some fairways--but that just helped us to learn skills of how to handle that. The greens were not bad. Again, improvements take time but this little course just needs a bit of love that I believe will come with more support. A gentleman in front of us was teaching his son some skills--they had a ball and we did too. We'll be back. Locals know the story behind this and that the city didn't have funds to do much--hopefully this management team will and some progress will come. Sure hope so, because I've been few places I was treated any nicer.
good practice facility
