Better Than Expected
I have a tough time with City of Augusta managed services so I went into this course thinking it was going to be low quality, but it was really a nice course. The fairways could be filled as there were a bunch of "craters" and the greens were cut to low so some of them felt like I was putting on packed sand; however, the course is overall very nice and for the price, very difficult to beat. I will definitely be playing this course again.
This course is not very difficult as most holes were straight, but had just enough challenge to keep it interesting with the sand traps and the amount of hills on the course.
The employees were nice, but sometimes seemed more as "golfers who work the course" as opposed to actual employees. There is also little to no Pro Shop, and the cafe didn't seem to be very good (but I did not go in, it was just empty).
Golf etiquette
Some players at this course need to take a class in golf etiquette when it comes to pace of play. I was behind a single walker who was behind a twosome that was playing very slow. The single walker was hitting 2 balls off of every tee and the twosome was still holding him up with their slow pace. When I was on the first green, I saw a group of what had to be 5-6 on the 7th green ( I encountered this last week as well but I was behind them and they never let me play through.
Slow play
I think there needs to be an etiquette course that some people should take. I was a single player in a cart and was behind a walking twosome on the front nine then got behind a foursome on the back. I was on 11 tee and they were on 13 tee and I caught them on 13 green and was waiting at every hole.
This course is steadily improving
This course used to be a convenient place to play cheap. It has some small greens, the tee boxes needed work and grass was sparse in the fairways. The small greens are still there but the tee boxes are improving and so are the fairways. The condition of the greens is the best that I've seen. This is a fun course to play and is a great value!
Review
Overall conditions of course was not good to play.
Need to rebuild some holes.
Pace is good
Courteous players
we were allowed to play through by the slower group ahead of us. we appreciated it very much. makes us want to come again and again. the fellow at the counter, james is always friendly and very amicable.
No etiquette by some
I played as a single and started 2 holes behind a twosome and caught them on the 3rd hole. I could see that they were at least a full hole behind the next twosome but that twosome was playing much faster. I didn’t press but they would not let me play through even though they could see I was waiting on every shot. On a couple of tee shots, I could see one or both of them hit 2 balls. Luckily, or so I thought, they stopped at 9. As I make the turn, I see another twosome has started on 10 and the waiting game starts again. Not only this but another twosome was in front of them that had been nowhere in sight all day. The first twosome did let both of us play through but I was still waiting for the twosome in front of me on most shots. Just very rude people with no golf etiquette at all
Average course, good value
Above average layout but the greens were very rough
Not great but good for $15
The course is in better shape than usual but still needs work. Tee boxes are horrible but greeens were better than average and at least the traps were raked. I heard that they are going to redo the course next year so I will continue to give it a shot if I need a quick round on a Friday after work. For me it beats going to the driving range.
Better than normal
I have played this course dozens of times over the years and this was the best shape I have seen the course in a long time. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s still nicknamed The Patch for a reason, but the fairways were mostly covered and plush for The Patch. The greens were very good compared to what I have seen here. A few of the greens did have what looked like tractor tracks on them but overall in good shape. The tee boxes need LOTS of work, but they always have. For $15 it was a good deal for an after work round.
