first time playing there
our first time. course was under some construction, will be fabulous when done. some challenging holes, plenty of water, and other hazards. nice course for the money. will play there whenever we visit brunswick. watch for gators on water holes, they are there. when hole 10 is completed with the upgrades, it will be nice. overseeded just completed, but greens putted well. wife shot her best score there, so it is friendly for the ladies. island green at the end did give you 18 holes since 10 is under construction. enjoy!
Greens were badly hurt
This is a beautiful course with a very intricate layout. Unfortunately the huge amount of rain in August and September took there toll on the greens due to flooding and standing water. Many area had no grass and others were very sparse. In the normal areas the greens putted extremely slow so it was quite difficult to judge speed and the inconsistency was a bit frustrating. When the greens heal, I would definitely play here again.
Ridden hard, put away wet.
This course has great potential and a lot of challenging and attractive holes and the price was reasonable. Unfortunately when I played the course, the condition was at best fair. Other reviewers stated that this course was "near PGA quality" as recently as two weeks prior to my having played it. I was told by the guys I played with that the area suffered through a ton of rain in the prior week ( I'm not from the area). The greens were slow, patched and mottled. Possible fungus? Still they shouldn't have been that bad after only a week of rain. Tee boxes, fairways and rough were also well below PGA standard.
A great golf experience.
Heritage Oaks is a must play if you play golf in Coastal Ga. The course has a scenic layout with many upgrades that you see at resort type courses. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, the food is excellent in the clubhouse, and the beer is cold! You won't find a better golfing experience at any price range.
Great course for the money
We didn't expect much given the low greens fees, but the course was a great bargain - challenging layout, lots of water, interesting holes. The greens were pretty slow and there was construction and a lot of ground under repair, but overall we couldn't complain given the price. Would recommend it.
really nice course
the course was challenging and in good shape, despite just arrifying the greens. We knew that coming in, and still found it to be a nice course to play. Will definitely come back!
Thank you for your review. The greens are healed up, so please come back and play again. Hope to see you soon!
Great course
Course was in great shape.People were very friendly.
Thank You and hope to see you again soon!!!
Thank You and hope to see you again soon!!!
Major renovation at this time
Tee boxes were mostly under repair. Greens we're extremely inconsistent. Fairways were overall in good condition. Carts with GPS were helpful.
Thank you for your review. We are in the process of leveling some tee boxes and that process will be finished soon. Hopefully we can earn your business again.
very nice course
Enjoy the course i love to play golf courses that i have never played before and i will tell my golf friend they must play this one.Hope to play it again soon. Its a very cood course to play just love the layout of the course.
Glad you enjoyed it! Please come back and see us soon!
Excellent course, especially considering the price
My son and i played this course for the first time today. WOW! I couldn't believe the condition of the course, as it relates the price to play. I play a lot of "value golf"- you know the price range: $25-$50. This course had me and my son thinking we were playing on a PGA tour course; very, very well conditioned. It is a challenging course, a bit tougher due to the fact we had no course knowledge, but still throughly enjoyed our round anyway. It was extremely hot & humid, but hey thats south Georgia in July (just wished there could've been at least a speck of wind..it was HOT!). I definitely recommend this course to everyone, at $20.00 (online booking rate) there's no reason not to try it.
Very nice course
We visited this course while on vacation at Saint Simons Island. This course is very nice and underated. It is an incredible value. All three of us played for what it would have cost for one to play on the Island. I was very impressed with the course conditions. The fairways were incredible. They were in as good a condition as just about any I have seen. The greens were also excellent. They were working on some of the Tee boxes, so they were a little less impressive. The course borders the marsh and there are many scenic holes. The pace of play was good. It was a great experience.
Worth the drive
Heard about this course from a friend in Georgia. Well worth the drive from Jacksonville.
Lots of challenging holes and layout was something else. Marsh views, elevation changes and lots of bunkers.
With all of the rain in recent weeks still held up well and got a chance to play the island green.
Can wait to play it again!
Great bang for the buck
Really nice golf community style course. Holes are well designed. A few course maintenance issues popped up, but overall a fun round.
Plays longer than card indicates.
Challenging course. Fairways soft with no roll. Cart path only and played long. Very picturesque.
Great layout and pace of play.
Conditions were very wet at no fault of the facility. I look forward to playing again in better weather conditions.
Great course except when it rains
The course is set up to challenge the best golfers but by playing the forward tees a senior golfer can have a great time and score well. When last played, it had rained and had to play using cart path only which was not fun for an 85 and 77 year old player. Still played the round in under three hours. Hole number 15 (a par 5) was closed due to redoing; had to play and island green which was a par three. Still had a great time.
Top 5 Courses You Can Play in Golden Isles
The layout is interesting and will challenge players of all handicap levels. The condition of fairways and greens was a pleasant surprise, more typical of a private club.
The course while surrounded by homes still provides a tranquil setting on Oak Grove Island which enhances the experience. The price-value of this course places it in my top 5 in the golden isles.
Nice track
The course overall was in good shape. The greens however were slow and bumpy. I do understand why though, as it was 100 degrees when we played. They have done a lot of work in getting the course back to playable condition. This course has a good layout and some pretty golf holes. Make sure you bring plenty of balls, it has plenty of water and marsh to navigate around.
Cerebral course
This course lends itself to all kinds of golfers. It is all about shot placement due to hazards all around. Golfer must think one to two shots ahead. There are some grip and rip fairways but look out for hazards like fairway bunkers, saw grass, and water. Pack some extra balls. greens were recently aerated but still in good shape. Beautiful coastal views along the course. challenging par 4's with water in front of green.
Lots of water
Only complaint was the confusion and back up on the 10 th par three substituted for the repair of #17. Way to many people on tee box and waiting, way to many people on green. Need to have much more organization to ovoid the confusion and hold up.
Your statement is completely accurate. And what you were told was also accurate. In the months of July and August this area had 10 inches of rain. Sept 5 inches
