Beautiful course. Challenging but not too much. Rough is tough to get out of but I'm used to playing up north. Will definitely play here again.
What a surprise
We played 3 rounds in 3days. Had a great experience. Could not believe how nice the course was and how little play it received the 3 days we were their. Could not imagine a better experience for our family weekend. The value was unbelievable compared to other places we have played in recent years. Would definitely go back. Only draw back is it is not near a major city.
Course Needs Work
I've played Veteran's several times. It seems to modulate from Excellent to Fair. This time the green's were very bad - not a lot of grass (in fact I would say they are losing them) and what grass was there was pretty tall - making putting a joke. In fact we started just taking an auto two putt. Lot of grass clipping on and around the fairways - but probably to be expected with all the rain we have been getting in South GA.
a little more work
The course was one of my fav's. but the greens have become just terrible. I really hope they fix them, ireally like to play there.
GREAT LAYOUT
EVERYTHING WAS GREAT EXCEPT THE GREENS THEY WERE VERY BAD . GREAT LAYOUT I HAVE PLAYED THIS COURSE MANY TIMES.
BUT THE GREENS ARE JUST TERRIBLE THEY NEED TO FIX THIS ASAP. IF NOT I WILL GO BACK.
Everything was good but greens. Sanded and not rolled out. Made putting difficult.
Tee to Green outstanding
Absolutely amazing golf course. Only negative is the greens being in transition from winter to summer grass. Tees, fairways, approaches even the rough is in excellent shape and for a course suffering drought conditions that is saying something. The Pro and his staff were top notch. Even gave me the veteran rate and refunded difference between rack rate ( which I paid up front) and vets. Except for the greens, one of the finest courses I've played in Ga. I look forward to coming back when greens grow in.
Earily Morning among the trees.
Warm overcast morning. Rain due in earily afternoon. No one on the course. Mid 70's.
Course tight on approach shots. Greens in great shape, mild undulation but rolled true.
Starter and greens crews friendly, played in two hours 10 min.
Course reminded me of tracks in western PA, tree lined, side, up and down hilled.
Near Lake Blacksheat GA. Worth the time went fishing after.
Perfect Day for a Fun Round
70s with low humidity and a light breeze: let's play 36! GA Veterans is a course anyone can play and enjoy. Water, bunkers, tiered greens, rolling terrain that often doesn't leave a level lie, and all at a good rate can't be beat. Course was in good condition overall although damp in some places: Exception: greens were hard and not real smooth. Fivesomes seem common, but they seemed to move along. Not much water on the course. (And $0.50 for a cup w/ ice?)
Would definitely play here again and urge others to do so!
Great course
Course has a variety of holes that easy and challenging.
Very underrated golf course
I recently stayed at the resort and had a package for each night I stayed I received a free round of golf, which was already a good deal. The course is one I will definitely want to venture back to. The first day we played in the rain, and it was amazing to see how well the course drained. I am a huge fan of Dennis Griffith's designs, and this shotmakers course was no exception. Overall a great value; the state park courses are always a good bet!
nice layout for play
Makes for a good day of golf if you are in control of your game.
Great value
Not a typical state park golf course. Ran more like a country club without the high prices.. plenty of challenging holes, well groomed, and hazards. My wife also enjoyed the course.
Great Lake and course
I played Lake Blackshear today and it was FREEZING COLD! When I played I started at 11:30 and it was barley 40 degrees. Let's just start by saying that Lake Blackshear has some great off course amenities. The place is in the middle of knowwere in little Cordell Georgia. The hotel I stayed at was buetiful and the marina gave a nice touch. The course itself was wonderful and the grass was not dormite. The clubhouse was great and the course had lots of water and payed tribute to the Georgia veterans which is the full name of the course. After the Reno this course is great.
Chris
Great layout. Greens are running fast and very true. Great course.
great value
The Course at Lake Blackshear is a hidden gem. Not only a great test of golf but a senic trip through the wooded rolling terrain. I had played there ayear ago and while I loved the layout the overall maintenance left a little to be desired. What pleasent suprise to see the turn around, The course this time was spectacular.
