About
Conveniently situated between Athens and Lawrenceville, the Providence Club has a scenic location stretching right along the Appalachee River that makes it feel much more like a getaway. The golf course has been considered one of northeast Georgia's best since opening in 1998. The layout takes advantage of the rolling terrain, incorporating elevated tees and uneven lies. The greens often feature slopes and undulations but they are fair and they roll true. They are also known for being excellently maintained. Mature trees frame many of the holes and there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. Water doesn't come into play too often but the elevation changes will provide plenty of challenges. The golf course is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels with a few tricky holes to keep the round interesting.

It’s Ok…
Fairways were in decent shape. The greens need some work but still rolled pretty quick. Amenities were good. Overall a decent course just not in prime shape at the moment to warrant the price per round.

Decent course; no cart girl or drinks at the turn
Course was ok. At the turn, went into grill to get drinks/beer but no one at bar for 10 minutes. She was helping cook make breakfast sandwiches. we ended up leaving bc she never came to the bar to take care of people. Really disappointing

Rude Manager!
Ok, the course is great but the staff is awful! Our cart ran out of power on hole 6, I called and they sent another one out, fairly quickly. It wasn’t cleaned, AT ALL. They brought us a cart with 8 or 9 (maybe more to be honest) bottles and cups. It was sticky and gross. But whatever we had a cart, or so we thought. We made it to hole 7. The 2nd cart died. I called again and honestly the guy sounded like it was the biggest inconvenience to need another cart…like it was our fault. Trust me buddy, it was a bigger inconvenience for us. I called back after thinking about it and asked for a discount or a free 9 holes of golf. I don’t feel that was being unreasonable. He said “ma’am we can’t control when the carts die” I said but knowing that you’re closing soon wouldn’t you make sure you brought us a charged one. “Well we’ve been having a lot of charging issues” I was so mad I just said fine and hung up. We loved this course but we will NOT be back. We pay less at other nice courses and haven’t been treated like this. I don’t feel that we were asking for too much. If it was one cart no biggie, even getting it in the condition we did, I didn’t complain about that until after I called back a second time. We weren’t even asking for a full 18 holes of golf, just a refund on the ruined 9 we had. Sorry but we will not be back. We will take our money to other near by courses. To think we were just talking of becoming members here. Oh well

Greens are a mess
Too much rain must have really set this course back. Fairways are washed over, grass is very thi and the greens are awful, like putting on packed dirt.

Pace not enforced.
Had an 0800 tee time, only one time slot ahead of me and the gentleman I was paired with. The earlier slot was filled with an older foursome who refused to let us pass until the turn. Took more time than should be allotted, and no Marshall to enforce.

Great layout

Grew up playing this course
I miss the way it used to be, now changing for the worst
Charged full price for wet course
Zero water coolers with 80+ degree weather
Waited at the bar when at the turn and never got service
Asked ranger about water, brought our group back water bottles and still charged us
Course was in mediocre condition

The course was awesome and loved the layout.
Could use a cart person and to speed up the pace of play slightly. Overall, killer experience and really enjoyed the course.

Good … could be so much better
I love this course; fun, challenging, scenic, yet unpretentious. And just far enough out of the big city to feel like you’ve gotten away for a day. BUT, the experience could be so much better if course conditions are addressed (most tees & some greens need help). I expect the dormant fairways will come in naturally, but tees & greens need real investment.

Soso
Course was a little rough. It is winter so I wouldn’t have expected it to be in top condition. The tea boxes were real rough. I seem to be a little understaffed as I try to come in on the turn to get a few items and couldn’t find anybody that would want to ting me up. Hopefully things will be better in my next round.
