About
Conveniently situated between Athens and Lawrenceville, the Providence Club has a scenic location stretching right along the Appalachee River that makes it feel much more like a getaway. The golf course has been considered one of northeast Georgia's best since opening in 1998. The layout takes advantage of the rolling terrain, incorporating elevated tees and uneven lies. The greens often feature slopes and undulations but they are fair and they roll true. They are also known for being excellently maintained. Mature trees frame many of the holes and there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. Water doesn't come into play too often but the elevation changes will provide plenty of challenges. The golf course is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels with a few tricky holes to keep the round interesting.

Not Good...Diseased Greens were unputtable
Paid $94 on Sunday May 3 after 12 oclock. Played here before but never this high of an amount. Tee boxes not kept up. Had to constantly find a patch of grass to tee off. Fairways are good. Then came the greens....the worst. Diseased. Two thirds of the greens were diseased. Impossible to maintain your line or speed. Our foursome was averaging two extra putts per hole. Not only us but the group ahead of ahead as well. This was keeping the place of play slower than usual for Sunday play. The Diseased greens will take two summers to cure so Do Not plan on playing at Providence especially for $90 plus dollars.
Greens
Fairways and staff great. Greens are in rough shape
Good variety of holes
I play this course fairly open. It is a fun test which is challenging, but not especially penal. I was a bit disappointed with the condition of the greens. Some had sand on them (although no mention of recent aeration), many had some bare spots and were a bit bumpy. Overall decent conditions despite decent overnight and morning rain. Some scoreable short par 4s and 5s, but par 3s especially challenging for me.
Pace of play
I have always enjoyed playing here, but unfortunately, the pace of play during this visit was significantly slower than usual. The group ahead of us fell far behind the standard pace, which caused a major bottleneck for all the following groups.
While I understand that delays can happen, the gap was quite substantial, and it took away from the overall experience for everyone on the course. I believe a bit more active monitoring by the marshals would have helped restore the flow.
I’m sharing this because I value your course and hope to see the excellent pace of play I’ve come to expect in the future.
I have played here several times. Upon checking in there is no signs in the pro shop nor does the clerk every speak of pace of play. So you being a patron have no business speaking of pace of play.
Could have been better...
The value with Providence is the money- not necessarily the course. I love the layout of the course; however, I was surprised with the conditions of the greens. They recently aerated so with some TLC it should get better but right now they weren't in good condition. Also, and more frustrating was the pace of play. I played with a buddy of mine and we cruised through the front, but the back literally took three hours to play!! We called the clubhouse, but they didn't do anything to help. This was on a Thursday!!
What could they have done??? When you check in do you see any signage of pace of play? Does the clerk say anything about pace of play? No they do not.
Providence play
As always the course was good for this time of year the grounds crew was taking care of the course and did not hold up play I’m looking forward to playing again soon
If you play a few times a week here why arent you mentioning that the greens are diseased? You should be warning us about the ALL conditions. I played here a day after you. I read your comment and since you play here often I played it and the greens are diseased!
