Conveniently situated between Athens and Lawrenceville, the Providence Club has a scenic location stretching right along the Appalachee River that makes it feel much more like a getaway. The golf course has been considered one of northeast Georgia's best since opening in 1998. The layout takes advantage of the rolling terrain, incorporating elevated tees and uneven lies. The greens often feature slopes and undulations but they are fair and they roll true. They are also known for being excellently maintained. Mature trees frame many of the holes and there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. Water doesn't come into play too often but the elevation changes will provide plenty of challenges. The golf course is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels with a few tricky holes to keep the round interesting.

A few patches in the fairway were still a liitle thin but overall the course is in very good shape. And the greens are back!

Grass/turf still recovering…
Long winter w/ late freezes combined with dry spring has tees and fairways recovering slowly. Greens are very playable with very few bumps.

Great pace of play

Course was in decent shape
Despite the complete lack of rain the last month. The staff has a done an excellent job keeping the course in great shape. Carts, tee boxes, fairways and greens all in immaculate condition. The price too makes this place one of the best values around.

Potential not Attained
The course is straight forward, no gimmicks. Greens had been punched recently, which is understandable. The fairways and tee boxes were not great. First tee time was at 7am, and the shop wasn’t opened until 6:50. We had to rush around to hit balls and still play.
Aerated Greens
The greens were aerated in the last few weeks so the surface was a little rough. Should be on great condition in the coming weeks. The starter was very friendly but the guy in the golf shop was not very pleasant to deal with.
Carrier 3
The Course was in great shape after 2days of rain we walked it because it was cart path only we didn’t encounter much water if any we finished in less than 4 hours and we walked it we enjoyed it

Greens in good shape.
Everything was great with one exception. The cart paths are in need a repair. We found ourselves driving on the course to stay away from the paths and that can’t be what you want.
Greens in great condition. Can’t wait for the grass to green up. Highly recommended.

Starting to "green up"
Although most of the fairways were just showing green growth, there was enough dormant grass to keep from having to hit off hardpan. The greens rolled well at medium fast speed. Most of the greens tapered high back to low front, so if you ended up above the hole, you had a serious challenge putting. Overall, conditions were excellent for very early spring.

Upper Echelon of North GA public courses
Nice wide fairways, reasonable distances from Mens tees, not a lot of surprises with very little water coming into play. Course and greens are in great shape. Cart paths could use some work and there were a couple of bald tee boxes. Decent practice area. No cart service on the weekdays it appears which is unfortunate. Needs more ball cleaners throughout the course.
