FootGolfReviews
It was a very enjoyable round. The layout is challenging with both right and left doglegs. Most of the greens are domed which require precise iron shots and/or chips. The only negative was a lot of animal burrows in the fairways.
Good value. Never crowded.
The course, while not being the best when it comes to conditions, is still a great value. It’s best feature is that it is never crowded. Pace of play is what your pace is. I’m playing here again.
Go somewhere else
What a dump. Ok I was disappointed to find temporary greens in September. My fault for not noticing that before hand. That said only the back nine was open. I looked at the greens they're in terrible shape. After two holes we left and went to Tybee island and had much better time. Playing the Westin tomorrow I'm certain it will be great.
Temporary greens
Greens are being re topped. Temporary greens utilized. Would have like to have known this before pre paying.
Documentation
Golf now should have a pop up after booking with a military. base to notify needing all documentation to get on base.. Just bought a new car and did not have registration available. So golf now cost me twice as much to play on our anniversary. Not a good experience.
HUNTER GOLF REVIEW
Hunter Golf Course is a great friendly golf course for military and civilians! The course in good shape on front nine and fair on back nine! It was easy to find and I will be going back again!
Good Practice Course
The course was good for practicing. Some of the greens were in back shape but for the price the course was in good enough condition. The biggest issue was that it is located on an army base and it took us over an hour to get through the security checkpoint. I understand the need for screening people coming in but they need to set up a better system if they expect any non military people to pay to play there. Maybe a place on their website where you can put in your tee time and your drivers license number and then have them run everything before you arrive then just verify the information when you get to the gate would speed things up and make it more feasible to play there.
Green
Nice course but the greens were not good.
Very helpful staff
good value
be sure to get there early you'll have to have a back round check done before entering air base that was not a problem just a heads up liked the layout although greens pretty rough good value though will play it again
Not great from the start
I think the course is fair and great for the money, but the experience is less than stellar. It took us over 45minutes to get through the base entrance, they were very lackadaisical in getting us through. Then once we hurried to the desk, the gentleman was fairly rude and made us wait longer 5-10min while he counted change. Pace of play was slow, we were a foursome and they had singles and twosomes all around us and made pace really inconsistent. We let people play through as well. but not ideal.
Friendly Staff - The only positive
Staff was friendly. No Marshall present, therefore I was stuck behind a twosome who was stuck behind a threesome that would not allow them to play through. The staff is aware of the back 9 greens, but there are a couple of holes on the front that aren't good either. There was also a problem with golfers getting onto the base because of new guidelines.
Greens
Greens were in ill repair. Worst I've seen on any course, hands down!
good cheap course
This is a good place to play on a budget. The course is under repair but it was fun none the less. I walked in the clubhouse and they asked my name hands me a cart key and I was off to play. Absolutely no hassle. It is a good way to support the military mwr to help give the soldiers a good cheap place to play.
I will play here again definitely.
Needs Water
This was the second time playing this course and probably the last time unless someone else pays. The Savannah area has not had rain in several weeks and the fairways showed as they were baked out. Drives would bounce 5 feet in the air then role through the fairways into rough, leaf piles, wooded areas, etc. Greens were relatively good but you could tell they were watered by the numerous pitch marks that scattered them.
Very forgiving course for any competent golfer.
I'm a Vietnam era vet and I actually enjoyed entering the base gate. Young soldiers greeting and directing, polite and appreciative of my former service. Its a bit confusing finding the course on base even with the directions. Listen carefully! Rain threatened so it was a super fast round. Light traffic.. The course is wide open, few obstructions but the tee placements are varied enough to present a challenge if you need it. Long, with many doglegs. Water doesn't really come into play much. Back nine greens seem to have a fungus but it is being resolved and doesn't effect the putting much. THE FAIRWAYS ARE EXCELLENT! You can get some great bargains here. New to Savannah but will be playing here regularly.
Good day out
This course was well laid out with wide fairways and good greens. Unfortunately some of the greens on the back 9 showed signs of wear and will take some experienced work from the green keeping staff to recover them. That said it did not detract from an enjoyable game.
Great game
I have played this course before and like playing here. I was disappointed with the condition of some of the greens, the grass was burnt out and down to the soil. Other than the condition of the greens the course is very good. I actually shot the best game here a 93.
Great Course, back nine greens were sand though
Like the title says it was a great course and an awesome value for the money. I'm not sure what was going on with the back 9 though so much sand on all of the greens, but everything was great and will definitely be visiting again in the future.
Hunter Golf
Decent affordable course on a military base in Savannah GA. Very hard to find the correct gate entrance and course as the signage leading you is poor. However, once you are there, the course was fine. Front nine was in good shape but the greens on the back were pretty sandy.
