Course is in great shape!
Played in late December and the course was in better condition than some public courses in the peak of summer. The course is pretty tricky with narrow fairways and lots of doglegs.
Winter Preview Golf
I was happy to get an end of sesason round in the Chicago area, anytime in November is a bonus. Staff was friendly and helpful and got right out. Understandbly it was a cart path only day, that slowed my pace as a single. Fairways were great for November, greens were sanded. First time playing there, unusual layout , some holes you feel out in the country, some holes by the highway, some holes in an industrial park.
Still had a great day at Hilldale.
Marshalls
Tale as an old as time. Most courses have a least 1 marshall who is jerk for no reason and Hilldale was no exception. We were right on the tails of the group in front of us all day, but it still wasn’t fast enough for him. Rude, annoying, power hungry old man. I’m not trying to hit up on people while they’re on the green, (which is what he was trying to tell us to do).
Horrible pace of play. Waited all day behind a twosome, who were waiting on another twosome. No ranger. Guy washing carts said course was trying to cut costs. Yet, they had an employee to work the grill at the turn, to try and suck in some more money for the course. Lol
Hidden Gem
If you’ve driven on I-90 towards Chicago, then you’ve passed by hole 14 & 15 of this hidden gem. Sufficiently challenging with water hazards and dog legs. Well maintained. Very reasonable price. This could be the site of many upcoming summer gatherings that won’t interfere too badly with family obligations. We’ll be back.
