Smoke Rise Country Club

This course is very challenging with the steep and hilly terrain. The greens were in good shape but the fairways and tee boxes were a bit bare. Could have been due to season changing. However it appears that the course is hurting for funds and is not getting the upkeep needed. There were other signs of the facilities financial problems. This course has all the elements of a former top notch operation and with help could be again. Will play another round in the future when summer is in full force and hopefully the grass has returned.

Wonderful course. Fast and smooth greens as normal. Plenty of scenery. Good bunkers. Really enjoy this place.

Very scenic BUT very difficult course because of the up and down. It is very hilly I mean very hilly which gives you some distinct problems with up hill and down hill shot selection. The cart paths need work badly and it appears that the overall maintenance of the course is lacking. The signature hole is a disgrace for the club. I'm quite sure it was beautiful when first opened but they have surely abandoned the upkeep of it .Because of the difficulty of the course the pace of play is poor - a number of blind shots and lots of hunting balls.

This was the second time I played Smokerise and both times I truly enjoyed myself. The layout is nice. The course was in good shape considering the time of year and the weather. Staff was very friendly and very helpful.

May consider a hybrid tees gold/blue that are more in the 6000 range. Gold is a bit too long with some really tough carries for many amateurs but other than that gold would be ideal.

Please fix the carts paths!

Totally enjoyed the round and will be back again. I would recommend this course to anyone. Just make sure to pick the right tees.

The greens are in excellent condition despite the crazy winter weather.

Greens could be better, but mostly because of rainy days, it has not been maintenanced.

It has been twice as slow compared to last year.

Very nice golf course, but not for the higher handicap players. Forced carries, tight fairways and undulated greens can make for a long day. Would wait another few weeks until the grass has matured before playing.

You will use every club in your bag at this course!!

First of all, I love this course and it tends to be one a go back to every other month. If you do not know the course, it is a bit shorter, but the elevation changes make it more difficult than you would think. The wind played a big part during this round and made it hard to attack the pins from distance. Looking forward to coming back to the course soon!

Strong layout, well-bunkered with good greens. Previous rains forced cart-path only, which made this hilly course a guessing game as to club selection. Would help if they added yardages to cart paths and 100 and 200 yard stakes in fairways. Several tees were barren and some tee markers missing. Some cart path issues. Should be beautiful once spring arrives and dormant grass turns green.

I hesitate to write this review because I really don’t want to share what I just found. The course was in great shape and was reasonably challenging. It’s hilly so I wouldn’t recommend trying to walk it.

This is a private club, so non-members get different access - non-members hit off mats on the driving range and don’t have access to the members-only lounge. However, the staff treated us great and there was plenty of access to food and drink and facilities. Honestly I liked the set up because I think paying members should get more for what they pay.

We play Heritage a lot, but those fairways and greens seem kind of gimmicky. Smokerise is almost as long with a similar layout. The big difference is that Smokerise is in better shape and if you hit the ball down the middle, you’ll get a good lie. And the bunker placement makes sense. The greens putted true and are approachable. It’s a good test without trying too hard.

Did I mention how great the staff were? We had unusual delays because of a college golf match ahead of us, and the pro came out twice, once to explain and a second time to give us drink coupons.

I’ll be back. Hope I don’t see you out there. I don’t want to share my new discovery but I felt obligated to give props where they’re deserved.

Great shape for early February, had just gotten big rain the day before so some traps had standing water but other than that wonderful rolling hills type course! Got fooled on a couple short par threes: looking down on them and didn't swing full, won't make same mistake next time. Also looking forward to seeing the course green, all dormant except the greens.

Excellent layout. Not for the novice. Must keep it in play to score well.

We spent more time waiting to hit each shot than we spent playing the course. Extremely slow! No Marshall on the course. I shall not return for another round.

We had 14 golfers and the course was very challenging however in great shape after a rain . It drains very well, and the greens were in great condition . The staff in pro shop was accommodating, and super nice. The bartender Chandler was excellent with the cocktails. We love this course and will be back soon

Decent course and overall conditions were good for winter. Several holes seemed similar from a design aspect and pace of play was on the slow side but this was due to one group ahead. Cart paths were poor from tree roots growing underneath.

Will be interesting to see how course looks in warmer weather.
