Great find
Really enjoyed playing a midweek round at Smoke Rise. Course layout was fun and challenging. Had some wear but looks like they are really putting effort into making this a top spot.
Tough course...bring a lot of balls
I've played smoke rise a few times, they've done a really good job of improving the conditions of the course. It's come a long way in the last couple years. Everything is in really nice condition BUT THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY TOUGH COURSE. You will lose a lot of balls because the fairways are lined with thick kudzu and it is very hilly. Seriously, bring a lot of balls especially if you shoot in the upper 90s or above.
Not what it use to be.
The isn't what it use to be ( bare spots, tee boxes in bad shape, sand is full of gravel in traps). Asking for $80 on weekend is a long stretch it's not worth it. People were nice .
Awful
Every hole is a dog leg right or left. Very hilly. Pro shop had very very very small selection. Clubhouse had hot dogs and that’s it. Absolutely miserable pace of play which is likely due to the abysmal layout. Will not ever be playing here again
Good for the cost
The course is a little unsafe as there is always a group who flips a cart on the slopes, but it’s a good deal for a weekend round. Very tight fairways.
Great Challenging Course
Super Challenging course be ready to use a lot of irons.
Smokerise
It was aver challenging course, I had played it a time or two before. Great day to play. Will play again.👍
Smoke Rise Try
Decided to try Smoke Rise Country club since it is li.ited to members and golfnow members. Pro shop had limited merchandise, course was practically empty due to threat of rain showers, played 18 holes without encountering another group on the course, that was the best part. Course is not overly long and has a lot of doglegs. Shot accuracy is required as most fairways a lined with trees. Greens were on the slow side but in good shape. Tee boxes and fairways were the issues. A lot of areas where there was no grass due to over use or winter weather. Will try and return later in the year to see if conditions improve.
Needs some time
The greens weren’t good, fairways were in rough shape, and tee boxes weren’t good either. Course needs some work, but they are working on it. Just needs some time.
Once a premium playground for the privileged…
…now the course is showing its age and lack of upkeep. Yet, it still retains its some of the opulence from the past. The course layout is consistently surprising with interesting design features from hole to hole. You’ll need lots of different shots in your bag. Doglegs, elevation changes, water hazards, ravines, all come into play. The greens were in decent condition and the bare spots on the fairways didn’t bother me. It’s a 27 year old course, and it’s not the elite country club that it once was, but I’ll be back as it is an interesting course and decent value especially on a hot deal.
Good course, getting better
Course not in great shape, but getting better. Always enjoy playing SR.
Not worth $10
The fact that there is a charge to play here is a disgrace. We walked in after 9. The place is a wretched condition.
Was hoping for a better experience
From pulling in at the entrance you can see the course is in rough shape. Everywhere is patchy, tee boxes, greens, fairways. The staff was nice but you could tell they were understaff and you had to wait for everything. We came in the club house at the turn and they were out of beer. One of the guys who was playing with us had issues with his cart and they swap it out twice but it broke down again and he was done playing for the day. Our carts battery died in the middle of the fairway on 18 so we packed our stuff up and headed to the car. I was hoping to have a much better experience but things aren’t great over there right now.
Once a great course now struggling to be mediocre
I was a member here 20 years ago and I loved this course. It’s a pale reflection of its former self. Good layout but essentially a crabgrass farm with mud flats on many holes. I know it’s expensive to keep a course in good shape but $75 to play it is an insult. Won’t be back.
