Sugar Hill Golf Club

Sugarhill is one of my favorite courses that I ever play, but today I was disappointed… I got there a bit early as I usually do… Being ex military, I always arrive early for everything… Also, I understand the policy of using Golf now at most courses, and I’m willing to wait until the proper time… However, after checking in And being told again about the policy, I was loaded up and ready to go and nobody was teeing off for more than 30 minutes... I was told that I could pay an additional $10 to go off at that time… I refused… I am a regular customer at Sugar Hill and should have been allowed to start regardless of the rules with Golf now… I did not argue, but I am very disappointed by this treatment.

This was my second time playing at Sugar Hill....Played in a 4some and a 2....The course is tough but won’t scare a beginner. The greens were in good condition but not great....You have to stay straight on this course because the grass outside of the fairway is high and your ball will be close to impossible to find....Now the bad part...It's like a free for all when it comes to course management. Both times I've played here it's been jammed up REALLY bad!! We were all bunched up and on top of each other. No Marshall to be found but honestly it's more the way they send people out. It's like show and go!

This is nice course with a nice layout. Lots of elevation changes. Not too long or short. Greens could use some love. I really want to like this course allot...but the slow pace is an absolute killer. Every time out it gets ridiculously bogged down at some point and you are waiting at the tee box...often times with the group behind you waiting to tee off as well. I would recommend to a friend with a caveat. Go early or be prepared for a slow round.

It would have been nice to be told the greens were recently plugged and sanded to no end. It was impossible to put. There was so much sand on the greens it was like playing shuffle board not golf.. why would they plug and sand in middle June?? makes no sense..

I have a friend that refers to Sugar Hill as a goat track largely because many fairways have steep or deep elevation changes as their border. Yesterday, the greens were not in poor shape. They were not in awful shape. They were in horrendous shape and according to the attendant in the pro shop, have been in said condition for the last three weeks. Scroll down to the next few reviews if you you think I am overreacting. There was no aeration notice on Golfnow and we were not advised of the condition of the greens until after our money had been collected. I am going to call Golfnow and advise them of the conditions and see what they say about why there is no alert. For the time being, you would have more fun going to the dentist for a root canal.

The course itself is interesting. You really need a course layout book or a golf app to see where to hit it on some shots. Fairways were in pretty good condition. Rough seems a bit haphazard. Greens had just been vertically cut and punched so they were terrible. Give it 3 weeks and it will be fun to play.

Greens had been aerated but no notice was posted, even on golf now. The greens were AWFUL, on top of that they were cutting what tiny amount of grass that wasn't drowned by sand on the greens in the middle of the day, holding up play.

I'll be spending the extra $10 and playing a better quality course from now on.

Greens had been aerated and heavily sanded which we weren't told about until we arrived and had already paid. We went to the putting green and saw what it looked like and just walked away because it was totally covered in sand and had deep lines and grooves all over the practice putting green.

The course has really gone downhill since the last time I played which was a couple years ago. They apparently have stopped maintaining the course or are struggling to do so based on the conditions today. More than two weeks after initially aerating, the greens are STILL terrible. Those are the worst greens I have played on in over 5 years. The greens were de-thatched and aeriated over two weeks ago. The Greens looked like they had been de-thatched with a tractor and plow. The only things missing were furrows with corn growing in the furrows. There were deep lines, bumps and TONS of sand on every single green. And to make matters worse, the greens have not been cut in quite some time as every single green had very long grass. I have played courses which had nicer and more manicured fairways than the greens at Sugar Hill Golf Course. Normally after being aerated, a course is playable after a week. However, when speaking with the other people in my group (they play the course every week) they said the greens have been horrible for two to three weeks. Whoever is running the course should definitely not be running a course because the course is in terrible condition versus what it was last time I played.

I can see having very bad greens in February and March when you are getting ready for the up-coming golf season, but this is the middle of June and the greens are TERRIBLE. Why would you purposely destroy your greens right in the middle of summer.

It is too bad the course has gone downhill so much because the course has stunning views as well as a very fun layout with lots of elevation changes. It will definitely be a long time before I return to play the course again as long as the conditions are what they were today.

The sand bunkers are either gravel or filled with water. It hasn't rained in a week. There were tadpools in the sand bunkers.

Normally this is playable at other courses after a week. The practice facilities are horrible. Mats only on a very short driving range. The chipping green was poorly kept. The putting green has 1, maybe 2 holes. The Pro that has chosen to show up after several months of not being seen is a jerk. He gave my party grief for bringing diabetic friendly supplies (fruit and zero sugar drinks) after we've had difficulty finding anything suitable at the course repeatedly. I used to play 2-4 times a month here. I'll gladly take my business elsewhere and suggest you do too.

This course might be the biggest embarrassment to the game of golf. First off why would you destroy your greens right in the middle of summer. If I was the superintendent id close the course until further notice.

Very good course but heavy sandy and aerated greens made it difficult to putt. The course overall is in very good shape from the tees to the fairways. Will be back in 3-4 weeks after the greens come in.

The course has stunning views. Greens were under repair so just used the 2 putt rule.

Sugar Hill is beautiful and very challenging… The staff is always friendly and they love my service dog. Playing there is always like coming home and I love it!
