Lake Arrowhead Yacht & Country Club - Highlands Course

The course is not a great layout. Tons of blind shots and crazy greens.

Very challenging for a couple of 70 year olds and one 80. The forced Carrie’s are tough for older players. greens were in great shape and very fast. Pin positions were very tough on the undulating greens.

You have to know the course to realize the best way around. But, we love the setting, deer, flora, so we will come back to try again, and again.

Greens were in great shape and play moved along! Even saw a Armadillo!!!Love Lake Arrowhead!!

It’s a nice course with some tough holes on front 9.

It’s also nice arriving at the Tee box and not having a couple groups backed up basically step up and tee off

The guy checking me in was totally indifferent. The gent, I’ll call a “Course Marshall” was a much nicer guy! Played the front 9, so $35 was towards the high side. Due to lack of rain the fairways were pretty browned out, the tees were in decent shape and the greens were good. Pace of play was good. Enjoyed the course layout and tee boxes well marked, The vistas were fantastic. There was a fair amount of crabgrass in the fairways. Would inplay it again ..,Yup.

Course improvements over the past month have made a huge difference. Always the most scenic course in our area.

The fairways were really dried out, grass cut pretty low and crab grass fairly abundant. That being said, I still enjoyed playing the front 9. Would I lay it again? Yup.

Course gives you some challenging lies, even with good ball placement. Didn't like weeds that were growing in the sand bunkers. Pace of play was awful, 2 groups always waiting on the tee box. Left my range finder and somebody was kind enough to turn it in.

With the exception of the fairways and greens having more weeds that I would expect, this was a beautiful course in the mountains with spectacular views! Great price and the clubhouse offers some delicious food and beer. A must go, especiallly for the price!

Beautiful vistas with deer, turkeys, and many birds. Nice fairways with considerable slope, and varied elevations for more fun! Several holes require long shots over water and brush. Wish they would consider putting in some landing sections for short hitters, but still beautiful holes. Play it frequently and prices are very good! Overall, great course andnwell maintained. Bob G

Update: after years of enjoying this course I think I’ve finally had enough. We played in May and it was in rough condition. Back here today (September) and it’s notably worse.

9:10 tee times, around 8:30, the practice putting greens had not been rolled. They were still cover3d in dew and as spongy as the one in my sink. On the course, it wasn’t any better. The greens were so long and soft. I’ve put better in shag carpets. To make it worse, half of them have weeds worse than a trailer park yard.

Then there’s the tee boxes… he only thing I can say is that they haven’t been cared for in years. Full of weeds, not flat, most pointing in the wrong direction…it’s sad.

Aarowhead used to be a fav course of ours but these days, it’ll take a lot to get us back. Seems like they’re spending all the $$ on the Stay and Play cabins but they’ll soon find out, no one’s going to pay to play the course. The quick downturn in course conditions won’t be overcome in a year.

This is not an easy course by any means, but a fun track. Been playing here for quite some time and love the challenge and the views. This time, however, it seems like they haven't treated for weeds all summer. Fairways for the most part are riddled with weeds. Tee boxes were worse. Greens were recently punched and true, but really slow. Add to that two threesomes ahead of us (now a six-some) were playing "best ball" scramble. Waited on every tee box for most of the afternoon. Left a trail of liquor minis all over the place to boot. Willing to give Arrowhead a pass because of our past experiences, but this time was not the typical.

Loved the vista at Arrowhead and was impressed with the Pro shop , Clubhouse , Practice area and overall price .

This was my first time playing and was looking forward to playing this ‘resort course ‘ layout.. The backdrop of the surrounding hills and forests are beautiful. The golf course terrain looked challenging from the onset as hole one has a great view with an elevated box .

This course is not for everybody as most holes a driver is not recommended due to the distances to the hazards. Target golf is the name of the game on most holes and the layouts doesn’t necessarily reward a good shot.

My playing partner lost a dozen golf balls on the front 9 as he miscalculated the lengths to the hazards and the accuracy required on approach shots . If you miss hit your shots , you will be finding the hazard on most holes.

The course wasn’t in the greatest condition when I played as they had just plugged the greens and sanded . Felt the fairways could have be mowed a bit tighter and the fairway rough was more akin to the US Open and not a ‘resort’ course.

Can’t say I will return to play the course due to the level of ‘fairness’ in the course layout and course conditions. Would love to see the fall foliage on this course but not sure the course fits my style of competitive play.

One last comment: the staff and clubhouse were great…..not sure the layout will ever be modified to improve ‘playability’ bit if so it has potential to be an excellent golfing experience
