Ka'anapali Kai

About
The Ka'anapali Resort on Maui is home to two championship golf courses, set on 1,200 acres of land home to ancient Hawaiian royalty. The Ka'anapali Kai course is an Arthur Jack Snyder design from 1976 that received an extensive renovation in 2005. The golf course is shorter and has a lower slope/rating compared to its sister Royal Ka'anapali course, but also plays narrower in most spots. Many holes are tucked into the West Maui Mountains The golf course is women-friendly with a forward set of "Hibiscus" tees at 4,522 yards, and also less expensive to resort guests and visitors compared to Royal Ka'anapali, which has played host to numerous professional events.

Nice Course
First time playing here. Staff were friendly. Rental clubs were a little old and dirty. Carts were comfy with GPS. Felt course was a little over priced as greens had obviously recently been aerated and sanded. Overall course in good condition and pace of play was great. 3 of us played in over 3 hours. Was a little strange when on no 6 a Marshall came up to us and said we could drive on fairway - which we had been doing. He then said the person behind had said we were holding them up - they had never had to wait for us !! We were also 30 mins ahead of schedule according to the GPS! We let them through when they eventually caught us at no 9
Overall a fun round and would play here again
Great views overall!
The course was in excellent conditions. Amazing layout with a few difficult holes but for the most extremely fair if the right shots were executed. Highly recommend!
Getting very expensive.
No beer, alcohol on cart. No 9th hole service. They keep claiming they are going to get drinks on the cart but it’s been years no service. If your paying resort rates you should get full service.
Kaanapali Kai Golf
Golf in Hawai’i is always a treat. Being super-critical, however, the “Kai” course is not as nice as Wailea Emerald or Gold, but on a par with the Wailea Blue course. Kai is less expensive than any of the Wailea courses but I do feel that, as with all the Maui courses, the green fees are unreasonably expensive. The locals/residents pay far less which I understand to a point. But I do feel that they try to extract as much as they can from we tourists. The golf club rental fees are also unreasonably excessive as they know what it costs for us to bring our own clubs on the flights to and from Maui. Other than this, the Kai course is nice: generally good conditions, some challenging holes, nice layout , and some outstanding ocean views. If money is no object, then play the Wailea or Kapalua courses. Otherwise, either Kaanapali course is a good choice IMO.
Affordable golf on Maui
This course was a challenge. Pace of play was fast and we appreciated that. Unfortunately NO beer on course with the beverage cart.
OK … I guess
I might have had too high of expectations. This was the first time playing golf in Hawaii and I expected great views. The views were nice, not great, the course was nice, not great, the fees were what I expected for playing golf in March in a warm weather location. For example, I expected better sand in the bunkers, which were shallow and a littler hard.
I have not played the other courses in Maui and have no other point of reference. I will play the course again on Thursday and may have a different view the second time around.
Great Course
Enjoyed a fun round on a perfect weather day. Course in great shape. Grain of grass on greens very much in control of putts.
Friends of the military.
Great course. Beautiful and well maintained. Only issue is signage could be better. Discovered they have a generous military discount. Much appreciated. We had fun on this and the sister course Royal. Generous friendly fairways.
New & improved course after Lahaina fire
I played 9 hole version when course under repair after Lahaina fire June 2024. This now restored course is a perfect addition to Kaanapolii’s golf courses for the mid-handicap golfer. Breathtaking views on the majority of holes that a very playable to reach GIR.
Greens are on par or better when compared with several Maui courses that I had chance to play.
I definitely plan to play course if get back to Maui again.
Affordable twilight
Great layout and in pretty good condition. Kind of weird no alcohol served on the course. Afternoon rate made playing much more reasonable.
