Tamarack Golf Club is a course that will test your shot-making skills yet it is still player-friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. Pete Dye designed the course with tight, sculpted fairways and undulating greens that come in a range of sizes. The layout offers plenty of challenges with water or sand coming into play on every hole. The golf course will test your accuracy but it is not as difficult as many other Dye designs. The third is one of the toughest holes. A severely undulating green protected by deep bunkers makes placement vitally important on this par 3. The 15th is one of the back nine's more challenging holes. It presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity with a myriad of teeing options. Water lines the entire right side and the two-tiered green is flanked with bunkers to the front and right.

This course is a dog patch with unfriendly service. Would recommend for you 8 year old learning the game. If you are an adult, pay to play a better course. This place is poor.

Perfect Pace

I got a tee time as a single on a Friday teeing off at 11:18 and was allowed to play as a single. 2 foursomes allowed me to play through and I joined a twosome on 8th hole. I finished my round at 3:10pm. Outstanding! The course was in great shape for late October golf. Lots of water hazards and it really challenges a slicer. At least 2 of the par 5's are force lay-up holes for the average golfer. I am not a fan of that, but they were both interesting and challenging holes to play. The course plays shorter than the yardages on the scorecard, but is still a nice challenge.

Chalanging but Great Value

I have played this course 15 to 20 times and it is demanding. If you are up for a chalange you will not be disapointed. There prices have been very good, check there web site for golf/lunch specials.

Lots of water hazards

First time I played this course. There were 4 options for tee boxes on each hole with recommendations on the score card to advise which tees would be best suited based on your handicap. Fairways were well defined, but a little overly wet where the sprinklers were located. In my opinion the course had too many bunkers for amateur players. The course had plenty of lateral water hazards as well along with a couple of holes where you had to play over the water. Some of the greens were somewhat small compared to other public courses I play. Also the greens were a little on the slow side. Bring plenty of balls when playing this course. Between the out of bounds and water hazards I lost a few balls. I would have had a hard time finding the pro shop if I hadn't been with someone who played there previously. Golf carts were electric with good power. No GPS in the carts, but there are yardage markings on sprinkler heads and markings for 200, 150, and 100 yards to green centers. If you have a personal GPS device, I would bring it with you. I had no problems with the workers at the course. I would not recommend this course for a beginner, (too much water) but it's a good challenge for an average golfer and the low handicapper playing from the tips. Good course for the price I paid, and yes I would play it again.

Slowest golf course in the Chicagoland

Well I gave this course a second chance. The pace of play is the worst. No joke waited on some tees for 30 minutes... Staff took no advice or didn't even attempt to fix the siutlaion . Instead just pass it along to another employee of the course

Could have been a great morning, but...

This is my second time playing this course, could be a great course, but the conditions of the course are ok. The layout is very nice, lots of water and some interesting holes, so overall has great potential. This Saturday morning though was not that great. First of all new computer system made it hard and difficult to pay. Second, no one there to pull out carts, so people standing around waiting for carts, next, the PA ended up pulling out carts so no starter. Then the group behind us grabbed a cart and jump out in front of us, really. Now the worst of all, someone who works for this place decided to start a outing on the 14th hole in front of us. The outing took the 14,15,16,17, 18th and the 1st hole. We went from moving around the course at a great pace to taking over an hour to finish the last few holes. The PA came out and told us and kept apologizing, even offered a beer once we were done. You book early to get out early and finish early, not to get stuck behind someone that shows up at the course 3 hours later. Who is managing this place?

Course Management

This is my second time playing this course. Really liked the layout, challenge and distance. Tough greens. Course in ok shape, long rough, sand is lacking. The worst part was the management of the course. No one was there to pull out carts for a first out on a Saturday morning, which made for a mad dash to get out. The twosome behind us got out before us because they grabbed a cart and ran. So no starter that morning either. Problems with new computer system made check in process long. The worst of all started an outing on the 14th hole, event took up the 14,15,16,17, 18 and 1. Took us well over an hour to play 4 holes, waited 20 minutes on the 15th. Talk about a round killer.Who does this and who thought this was a good plan? You jump out early to get done early, then run into this. PA did apologize and told us just as we reached the 14th. He offered a beer once we were done, nice guy trying to make a bad decision better. I don't think this will keep me from playing again. You could be a premier Naperville course, if someone would show up and manage the course. Also, times there were singles just wondering around the course, show up in front of us, then a hole behind us, no problem when course empty, but a sat am?

Great Value

Tamarack is a great course for the value. They keep it in great shape. It is not terribly difficult, but has enough challenges for every type of player. It does get pretty wet so I wouldn't suggest going right after a rain storm. Otherwise this is an A+ value

Nice layout

My golf buddies have a love hate feeling about this course. Lots of water and it's easy to get in trouble. I've played it twice in the last month - both times with great Golf Now deals (under $20). I really like it. Greens are in good shape. Its challenging from the back tees but fair. I'll go back.

Poor

Very frustrating to play due to the horrendous pace of play from multiple times playing this course. At times, the 3rd, 4th and 5th hole can feature 7 groups within 3 holes. Pin placements are often hugged behind bunkers or on downslopes.

This course is what you'd expect for its price.
