Tamarack Golf Club
About
Tamarack Golf Club is a course that will test your shot-making skills yet it is still player-friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. Pete Dye designed the course with tight, sculpted fairways and undulating greens that come in a range of sizes. The layout offers plenty of challenges with water or sand coming into play on every hole. The golf course will test your accuracy but it is not as difficult as many other Dye designs. The third is one of the toughest holes. A severely undulating green protected by deep bunkers makes placement vitally important on this par 3. The 15th is one of the back nine's more challenging holes. It presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity with a myriad of teeing options. Water lines the entire right side and the two-tiered green is flanked with bunkers to the front and right.

OK for the price.
Course was very hard and dry. Speed of greens was good. Sand traps were ok, to much sand if anything. Collars of greens were not in good shape.
Bad green
The green is very bad. It looks not taken care of. The sand is very bad and tee box is is very bad.
Tamarack 2014
nice course, well maintained. Pace of play was good and course is somewhat challenging, mostly due to abundant water hazards.
Great sand bunkers
A great challenging course, clean, well kept. Several par 4 and 5's. Course accommodates all types of players. Very friendly staff.
great course for the price.
Awesome fairways, greens, and bunkers for a public course.
Greens where not kept well
The Greens where pretty beat up. No ranger on site so the flow was slow.
Going down the drain
Tee boxes were torn up. Greens were very beat up, making putting a nightmare. It seems like maintenance for the course has gown down the drain. Our cart's brakes didn't work and our cart's battery gave out on hole 14. No starter or ranger to in force rate of play. It took a two-some 5 1/2 hours to complete 18 holes. There was a group of 10 messing around on the course and holding everyone up. Its a shame that this course is in a very nice area but course management is slacking.
Almost great
This course is tough. Very tight. Water and bunkers all over. Tough par 3's. Really a good test. Hit it straight. Unfortunately, the course was just in average condition. Weeds all over the tee boxes. Crab grass in the fairways. Greens did roll pretty nice, however. If they could just tidy up the conditions a little, this would be a five star course.
Long round
No ranger.. Horrible pace of olay... 5 hours is ridiculous. 1 group of friends decided to play together.. 8 of them in 1 group
Slow Play!
This is a nice course and presents some challenging holes. However, I do not understand how you do not have a Starter or a Ranger. The pace of play is always too slow and when you go to the 1st hole no one knows who's supposed to be on the tee box. Invest some money and put a couple bodies out there!
Great play
This course is pretty tough, but forgiving. To hit fairways you really need to thread the needle, but get out of line and you usually don't have a bad lie to keep playing. Staff is cool, cheap to play and grounds are in great condition for the money. Only bad is the carts need new parking brakes and sometimes the batteries die. If it bothers you, then you really have bigger problems. Go play!
Good value-plays friendly for first timers!
Shot 40 out, 49 in from front tees. (Senior.) Greens are easy to read and hit. Bunkers are well drained fluffy stuff. ProShop friendly. Men's Grill attendant not happy with her job :( !!
Good Golly Miss Molly!
It had been 7 years since I played this course. I felt it was in much better shape this time around. The rough was high but thin so hitting out of it was not hard. The sand traps need a lot of work and the rakes weigh 100 pounds! The greens are in average shape because they are so small. Unless you are hitting the driver very straight I would leave it in the bag. To never see the beverage cart on a Saturday was a bummer. Always windy.
Worth another try
The course was in pretty good shape. There were a lot of dead trees and some of the locations on the tee box were on a slant. I thought the course could use some work. Considering where it's located, I would think it would have a better look. ( like more flowers and better trimmed bushes. ) I like the layout but like others have written, it looks like there in money trouble. Also no rangers.
Gone way downhill
This used to be a well maintained challenging course due to all the water. However the course is not being maintained. The tee boxes were all destroyed. The clubhouse smells and the varnish is peeling off the doors. No starter or rangers to keep things moving. I think they had 3 people working the guy in the pro shop the drink girl and the bartender. I would only play here again for the 25 dollar rate they sometimes offer. I guess you get what you pay for.
Excellent Value at Discount Price
Course is tight requiring directional control. Greens are difficult to read but fair. As most courses have been this year, length of rough is a bit excessive slowing play.
Barely a golf course anymore.
Totally run down, on a Sunday, no starter no ranger. People without shirts playing the course. Guys in tank tops and gym shorts that have never played before so they are not letting others play through. 5 hour round. What a mess. Stay away from this course. Years ago someone actually cared about Tamarack. Now at its price point they are taking all comers with no supervision or management. My Sunday round was a disaster. Didn't even play the 18 holes I paid for. This course is gone....
No pace. poor staff
There was no ranger on the course. No starter. People were playing with cutoff tshirts. It was ridiculous. We walked off the course after 5 or 6 holes. Very unprofessional and very disappointing from a course in Naperville. I went with my brother and my boss and we are not going to ever play there again. Get your stuff together
Financial Troubles?
Played this course for the first time and was extremely disappointed in the quality of the course. Aside from not having a ranger to enforce pace of play rules, every hole had no indicaton of distance, layout, etc. The tee boxes were not kept well and on a few occasions, were placed as to have you standing on a bit of a hill to tee off. As others have mentioned, the amount of dead trees on each hole was very alarming given the time of the year. Also, on one of the holes, after a bad tee shot, upon trying to grab my ball from a neighborhood backyard, I had a large German Shepard come running out after me. Luckily it had an invisible fence, but I have never once had something like that happen during a round.
The problems above seemed to me that the course is having financial troubles because it seemed like they didn't want to put any money towards fixing things and making the course more attractive.
Bottom line, I will most likely not be playing this course again unless it's either for free or I have no other options.
Decent Course
Course is short unless you play from tips. Lots of water- comes into play on 17 or 18 holes. A few narrow fairways but usually pretty generous. Lots of fairway sand also. So course is good for intermediate or good golfers and can be challenging. GPS or distance guides would help with this course where positioning shots is important. Fairways and greens in good shape. Tee boxes on several holes are not level. Clubhouse and proshop are suspect. Carts were dirty. Cart girl was friendly. No pin position program in place nor colored flags to designate distance on green (just mini flag that can't be to decifered from 200 yeards out.)
