Tamarack Golf Club
About
Tamarack Golf Club is a course that will test your shot-making skills yet it is still player-friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. Pete Dye designed the course with tight, sculpted fairways and undulating greens that come in a range of sizes. The layout offers plenty of challenges with water or sand coming into play on every hole. The golf course will test your accuracy but it is not as difficult as many other Dye designs. The third is one of the toughest holes. A severely undulating green protected by deep bunkers makes placement vitally important on this par 3. The 15th is one of the back nine's more challenging holes. It presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity with a myriad of teeing options. Water lines the entire right side and the two-tiered green is flanked with bunkers to the front and right.

Tamarack
Bought 3 greens fees for a great price the day before. If you can hit the ball straight you will fair well. There is a lot of water and sand around the fairways and greens. Due to the time of the year, the greens were not very good.
Fun an Challenging
Tight fairways, this is a course you may want to hit a few more irons or fairway woods of tee if you are not hitting the driver well.
Love the speed on the greens, sand was in great overall couse was in great shape.
The course is good but some amenities would be nice
I have played this course since it opened, typically 2-5 times a year. The course has come a long way since I played it in the spring. The greens, fairways, and bunkers were in good shape.
Pace of Play is always an issue. I played as a single mid-day and it took me 3hours to play 9 holes. Other players on the course were jumping around trying to find an open spot to play faster. (this happened to me 2 times while playing)
I think on busy days a ranger would be nice just to keep the course moving and prevent other players from jumping all over the course and creating more problems.
Water jugs and a beverage cart would be nice as well on busy days.
Tamarack September 2015
Its a tough course with a lot of water and sand, a few forced carries. its easy to get in trouble. Fairways slope to the water on some holes and its easy to pick up penalty strokes, the average golfer is not getting a great score here.
That being said, fairways and greens were in good shape. The course is well laid out, its fairly picturesque and a pleasant place to play. Discounted tee times through golf now make it a great value. I golf here once or twice a year and would definitely come back. Had a bad score, but a nice afternoon.
We played on a weekday and took half a vacation day, teed off at 1 pm, so it wasn't crowded
Leave the DRIVER at home
...with this course. If its one thing, its challenging. Narrow fairways, fairway bunkers etc. Unless you have complete confidence in your driver, leave it in the bag. We played BLACK tees (1 in front of GOLD) and it played about 6400 yards but with the narrow fairways, said bunkers it seemed to play much longer. Would NOT recommend for beginners. Decent price for a weekend but if you get frustrated easily, find another course where you CAN and WILL hit fairways. No complaints about this place, just very challenging.
Value is there and the layout is challenging, but...
I've played Tamarack for the better part of 15 years, and it's quality is not what it once was. The clubhouse is fine, but it's showing its age. The course layout is challenging, but they don't care for the course the way they used to, and it's starting to show. I live 5 minutes from the course, so I play it for its convenience and usual pace of play, but it's starting to head down a slippery slope if their not careful
Tamarack Course
The course was well laid out.
But the bunkers had been soaked
by sprinklers causing them to be hard crusted and basically unplayable. Several tee boxes were very torn up by previous players and not repaired.
Previous groups dragged their shoes on the greens
making putting harder than it should have been.
Course was in great shape
I have not played here in 7 + years and my wife and brother in-law had never played it.
We all agreed that we really liked the layout and the design of the course. The condition of the tee's & greens were extremely good for a public course. The traps and rough were kept in quality condition, although a couple of traps could use an additional rake in spots.
We will definetly return to test our skill...it was FUN!
Horrible maintenance
I played the east choose which was very nice looking about two weeks prior to this outing. On the first trip I played the east course, which is shorter than the west by about 800 yards. The east course had plenty of divots ;which was understandable considering the assumed popularity of the course. The east course was easy and maintained to a mediocre level. I played the west course this time and the fairway might as well have been a bunker, with dead grass, geese droppings and some type of fungus all up the middle of the fairway, I started aiming for the rough.
Tough but fun
I have played Tamarack several times and always have problems with the water. But, the course is in great shape and a real challenge from the back tees. There was no one there yesterday so I played in 3 hours. Course is in very good shape.
Great Value
Teed off just before 5 hoping to get in all 18 holes. Rain storm had passed through just before so the course was saturated, but still in really good shape. The wet fairways probably helped keep a few stray drives from rolling into the water.
We played the black tees which seemed pretty far forward that day but still left some challenging shots. the golds would certainly make the course much more difficult. Greens, tees, and fairways were in good shape. Made it around in about 3hrs with out really having to wait or feel like we were being pushed with groups in front and behind us.
Tamarack Round One
Overall, pleased with course condition, greens putted true and receptive to approach shots. Pace of play could have been managed better. I will play again.
HORRIBLY SLOW PLAY
WE TEED OFF AT 130 PM AND DIDNT GET DONE UNTIL 6. SPOKE TO THE PRO SHOP TWICE ANS NOTHING WAS DONE. NOT ONCE IN THE 5 HOURS ON THE COURSE DID I SEE A RANGER. ITS A SHAME BECAUSE THE COURSE IS IN GREAT SHAPE.
Tamarack - 070915
Course does its best to maintain the grounds but, needs a refresh/update.
Tamarack
Good course! Pretty easy for the novice golfer. Pepsi products tho; they need coca cola.
Not worth the money
The prices would make you think it should be a five star golf course, but I hesitate to even give it two. The pace of play was horrendous. Nearly 3 hours to play nine, we didn't even bother to play all 18. I've seen cheap public courses in better shape that this one. The tee boxes were awful. The fairways were also pretty bad, and it was some of the patchiest rough I've ever seen. The greens were in fair condition and rolled pretty true. Fairly easy course with boring holes that offer very little excitement or fun. Most certainly not worth the extremely high prices. Never again.
Great Course & Great Bargain
The course was in great shape for all the rain we have had lately. Carts were fast and very clean. The guy at the counter was none too friendly. Took my money and that was about it. I had to ask where the carts were and if it was okay for me to go ahead and tee off.
Good deal
Very nice course that that runs through a neighborhood. Not a lot of water and large fairways make it easy to keep your bad drives in play. Only downside is no driving range or short game practice facility other than a large practice green. Still a friendly staff and not too expensive for a Naperville course. Will play again.
Stay away
Absolutely horrible. Didn't even finish my round. Pace of play was terrible. The conditions were awful. Tee boxes were sloped and not maintained. Greens the same. Just so bad. Stay away everyone, stay away!
The Greens were excellent
I've been playing Tamarack since 1998. The greens were excellent, as always. However, the rest of the course was terrible. Tamarack has regressed to the point of being a dog track, This used to be one of the best courses in the area. Tamarack has done a lot of outings in the past. Now, there were bare spots throughout the fairway. Bunkers had a minimal amount of sand. Some basic maintenance is needed. Then, the course setup was too easy. I've always played the black tees and that was a good test for me. The par 3s were set up at their listed distance. However, the par 4s were about 30 yards shorter than on the scorecard. 10 is listed as a 530 yard par 5. It was playing at about 450. 12 is listed as 570, it was playing around 480. Oh yeah, The guy in the pro shop didn't seem like he wanted to be there. So, the only positive was that the greens were in great shape. I don't expect to play here again.
