Tamarack Golf Club
About
Tamarack Golf Club is a course that will test your shot-making skills yet it is still player-friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. Pete Dye designed the course with tight, sculpted fairways and undulating greens that come in a range of sizes. The layout offers plenty of challenges with water or sand coming into play on every hole. The golf course will test your accuracy but it is not as difficult as many other Dye designs. The third is one of the toughest holes. A severely undulating green protected by deep bunkers makes placement vitally important on this par 3. The 15th is one of the back nine's more challenging holes. It presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity with a myriad of teeing options. Water lines the entire right side and the two-tiered green is flanked with bunkers to the front and right.

Ehh. Decent. Need starter and rangers
I play this course quite often because the value is good and I live 2 Miles away. The course is in decent shape. The greens are good ( little slow and spongy), lots of water on course. The bunkers could use a little help. Found large rocks in some of them.
My problem with this course however is The skeleton crew they run with. Made a tee time and checked in and paid about 40 minutes prior to said tee time. The guy in the pro shop made no indication as to when I was to go off or join up with a group( in fact people were just teeing off whenever). No starter to keep things organized. At one point there were four groups on #1 tee box all talking about who was to start when. Then 2 groups came off 18 and just teed off at one also. There is no ranger on the course. Pace of play can be super super slow somedays.
With all that being said, there are a lot worse places to play. I just wish they would get organized and hire another guy as a starter and to be a ranger. I'm sure there are plenty of retired guys who would do it just for the opportunity to at free golf.
Lack of staff
Challenging course but condition is only fair. My biggest complaint is that there is no starter and no rangers to maintain a reasonable pace of play. The course was crowded and a foursome in front of us kept hitting extra balls until they got one in play. They acted as if they were the only ones on the course and held everyone up. This wouldn't have happened if they hired capable rangers.
Great
Great course. Great value. Will be going back. Overall it was a great experience
I liked it
Pleasantly surprised. A very nice course. Greens slow and spongy but upkeep was good. Not a great course, but certainly a good one and a good value. Not disappointed at all.
Very Tight course
I have been playing this course for years. Tamarack is a very good test especially from the gold or black tee's. If it's Windy beware. The 16th hole is unlike no other I have ever played. Water and bunkers everywhere. Multiple holes will indeed test your skill level. Staff is very friendly and they now have the new redesigned scorecards available. I highly recommend this course.
Missing the mark!
Tamarack Golf Club seems to be in trouble. The course it self is still in pretty good shape. The fairways are still some of the best around. The greens are in good shape and the rough is kept in a fair, playable condition. The problem at Tamarack is the lack of staff. There is no starter and there are no rangers on the course controlling pace. We had a foursome playing in front of us that fell about two holes behind the group in front of them. The pace on the course was painfully slow. I have had tee times before where I have waited over an hour to start. Also, I have had my electric cart die on the course on two separate occasions. I mentioned my concerns to the manager in the pro shop, but he seemed uninterested in my complaints. This course was, at one time, on the verge of becoming a premium course. That is no longer the case. I keep going back because of the price. I can usually play 18, with a cart, for $25 or $30.
Tamarack 2014
So I have played this course twice this year. Once was in May and now in July. There was a huge difference in the course this time around. The fairways had divits across the entire course. I have never seen so many divits. I have no clue what was going on but the greens were also damaged with no on repairing their shots on the green.
I have been here a few times in the past and have never see it like that so I am going to give it the benefit of the doubt.
DEAD CARTS AFTER 5pm
Played this course three times at 5pm for the $25 rate and all three times my cart died in the middle of my round where I was unable to finish 18 holes. I play at 5 to be able to play quicker and all three times I was stranded and waiting for someone to bring me a new cart. I guess you get what you pay for.
Nice day
Good course, fast play this day, could use a better score card, paper copy only provided. Could use some indication of length to water hazard on some holes critical.
Would play again.
Tough course
Tamarack is a tough course to score on.
It's in decent shape, but it was cart path only when I played due to soggy conditions.
Also, no scorecards!?!
Kept score on photocopies of their scorecard.
Pretty lame.
Expected better for a Naperville course
- printer paper scorecards
- dirty carts
- dead trees all over
- difficult course (lots of water, plenty of bunkers)
Course was in great shape
Had an inch of rain the night before, but the course held up well. It was "carts in the rough only", but that was to be expected. My partner and I scooted around the course in 3.5 hours which is great.
The course has a nice variety of holes and plenty of water which makes it challenging. Senior rate is now $28, but the round only cost $25 thru Golf Now (including cart.
Great Place To Play A Round
Tamarack is in great condition this year, I plan on going back and play again real soon.
Excellent Ciurse
Challenging but very fair, the best public course in Naperville. Greens are in great shape and the pace of play is under 4 hours during the weekdays.
Overall Good
It has been a few years since I played
Tamarack and found the course was in good condition. The bunkers were much better than the last time I played there. Greens were a little slow but in good shape. Had a Hot Deal on GN so the price was right. Course reminds you of a Midwest version of Florida, fair amount of water running the length or close to the length of a hole, but the landing areas a generous.
Better Shape
The course was in much better shape then it was the last time I played there. (April 2014) Very friendly people. Will play here again.
Bang for your buck
Wonderful course for the prices, a few slow groups that caused 3 group back up on some holes. No ranger to promote quicker pace. But otherwise great course will be back. Remember tee it forward
Somewhat short holes - but very misleading
When I first looked at the scorecard, I thought this was going to be a cake walk - short and straight, only one long par 4. easy right?
Not so much. This time of year the morning grass is wet, and the ground is hard, making ball striking a little tricky. The greens are very closely guarded by lots of big bunkers and the hole locations are TIGHT!
There is a creek that runs through what seems like every hole, and if you're not choosing your clubs wisely, you're bound to end up in the drink.
Course is meticulously maintained, and the clubhouse is well appointed. Lots of options in tees for all walks of player.
There are a couple of holes and tee boxes that could use a little love (particularly the 18th fairway) but I trust they will be fixed.
The only complaint I have about this course is the lack of directional signs. There is almost nothing to guide you to the next hole, and often paths go two ways and theres a tee box in each direction. I was headed to 12, and went right instead of left off the green on 11 (again, how was I to know) and ended up prematurely teeing off on 15. Luckily I was out there alone, so it was easy to get my ball and search out the correct location.... it took a few minutes to find.
If they can fix this, Tamarack may just be the best deal around!
good value for your money
A very challenging golf course when it gets windy.Dont forget to bring extra bag of patience & discipline on the tee boxes...Accuracy is a must to play this course but then easy to break 80's if you keep the driver in some of the holes.Hit 'em well..
Facilities and course
Course was great, recomend bar area need serous updating so players can mingle VS running home after the game
