About
Tamarack Golf Club is a course that will test your shot-making skills yet it is still player-friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. Pete Dye designed the course with tight, sculpted fairways and undulating greens that come in a range of sizes. The layout offers plenty of challenges with water or sand coming into play on every hole. The golf course will test your accuracy but it is not as difficult as many other Dye designs. The third is one of the toughest holes. A severely undulating green protected by deep bunkers makes placement vitally important on this par 3. The 15th is one of the back nine's more challenging holes. It presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity with a myriad of teeing options. Water lines the entire right side and the two-tiered green is flanked with bunkers to the front and right.

Really nice course
I really like this course, the greens. Fairways and Teebox are well watered. Downside, Many of the sand traps are like rock quarries. Staff is really nice, carts work well and the course is clean.

Rough
Greens were rough. Sand traps need lots of work. Most under repair could not play from traps.
89 degree day and no water on course. Water cooler went empty for over 4 hours. Drink cart had no water to sell. No ice on cart to even keep soda cold. Told they were out of ice at 4:00? Gas station sells bags of ice. Just a suggestion. Crazy day. Easy to fix with good management. Will try again to see if things change to recommend to a friend.

Decent for the money
This place is just ok. The layout is somewhat interesting (not just straight boring holes) without being memorable either.
Conditions were ok. The greens were well groomed and good quality but the patrons don't repair ball marks so they look like the surface of the moon. It's unfortunate.
The fairways were green, lush and great but the rough was a bit rough. Bunkers were rock hard with 1/4" of sand and pebbles. So conditions were a mixed bag overall.
Still, it was not expensive and fairly fun to play. It's the kind of course I won't be trying to play again but am also not avoiding it in the future. In an area with less options (literally hundreds in the Chicago area) this could be great but as-is it is adjacent to much better options.
Point being, for the 36 or so dollars I paid to have a 18h twilight round with a cart, I got zero complaints, but take away a good deal and I'm not that intrigued.

Save your money
You would think a course charging $35 for a hot deal would be some what decent… nope.
This course is not with your time, save your money.
Sand traps have literal 10 pound rocks in them. Tee boxes are all destroyed and greens are like a gravel road.

Not worth it
Course was very over priced. Fairways were long, weeds in the fringe grass, beaten/bumpy greens and bunkers were unplayable. Don’t waster your time, find somewhere else to play.

I see improvement
Just 2 months ago this course was basically written off for me. I learned to play golf here and it’s very close to me so that was a tough goodbye. I gave it a try today and it appears change is afoot. Staff looked more professional, they consolidated the bar and pro shop. I will return.

Way understaffed
We got there to find beer bottles and garbage overflowing and they had ran out of golf carts. There was no starter or ranger or pretty much anyone around other than maybe 4 employees total.
Pace of play was very bad and often 2-3 groups backed up. The bunkers were basically gravel. It was like the Wild West.
The sad thing is if this course was properly maintained and adequately staffed it would be great.

Such a Shame
This course used to be decent. It has fallen into disrepair and started to come back in 2023. But 2024 has seen it take multiple steps backward. The traps are unplayable either filled with rock, mud, water, or rock hard. Drunk players have bashed holes into greens, trash cans overflow all over the course. The water jugs have all been stolen.
The course does not have enough carts to supply for riders and when you get a cart it often runs out of battery half way through your round. Carts are left abandoned in parking lots and around the course.

Can’t complain for the price, but nothing special.
Carts were nice but the bunkers are clay and have rocks you couldn’t lift. Laughable if i’m being honest. Greens were fine for this time of the year but the course could really use some work.
