Excellent !!!

Other than it being a Hot day, OV was in GREAT shape. It is always a very sporty challenge and yet it is a fun course. I don't know of another like it in this area. The grounds crew has been at work as the course was in pristine shape. The greens were swift and green, the fairways were in great shape and the water was wet !!! Orchard Valley is a challenging track and remains in the top 5 in my book around here ! And with a Golf-Now Coupon....you just can't beat it for the value or the experience !!!

Have seen it look better

I was a little disappointed in the condition of the course and specifically the front nine. It did not look as good as I have seen it in the past. I have not played Orchard Valley in almost two years and was really looking forward to this round. I do think the layout is great and it is a very fun course to play. The tee boxes were in bad shape and some of the fairways were a bit over watered causing major divots if you hit the ball fat at all. I do still like this course a lot and plan to play here again in the future.

Nice Course For The Money

I went out to Orchard Valley this past weekend with 2 buddies and we had a great time. The course was very busy and we started about 10-15 minutes late, and the pace of play was about 4 hours 45 minutes, but we weren't in any huge rush to get home. The course was in pretty good shape for not having hardly any rain in the past month, and the course itself is plenty interesting. If you play from the tips be prepared for some tough par 3's, especially #2 and #17. I believe the normal rate for the weekend round is about $80, which seems a bit steep to me, but we found a deal on GolfNow and after using a coupon code we paid about $35 per person, which was definitely more reasonable. I would love to see this place add GPS to the carts (as it is a fairly nice course), but finding yardages wasn't a problem, and I believe they sell yardage cards in the pro shop for $2. All in all I had a great experience here, and my actual rating is a 4.2/5.0.

This course is a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all it took over five and half hours to play!!!!!! You had to wait on EVERY hole even the 18 hole.

The course was in terrible shape. The greens were a joke.

I will never come back to this place AGAIN!!!!!!

slow play and greens a little bumpy. great layout....

There was an outing that day and it was painfully slow. Tough but fair layout. The greens weren't rolling very nice.

i have heard alot about this course!

I have read good and bad things about this course. I believe that they is nothing perfect in this world, and I feel that some of the bad things I read are from people that must not feel the same way. This course was nice and had many challenges from long traps, water all around, road frontage, and a lot of nature in it as well.
I would rate this as a 4.5 out of 5 but I can only give it whole stars!

Excellent local course and great value for the money with the GolfNow discounted rate

We had the first tee time of the day and got through 18 holes in under 3 hours. Conditioning was excellent and the greens were in great shape - fast and true. I'd heard course maintainance had slipped over the last several years but that wasn't the case for our round. One of the best courses in the area and we got a fantastic rate using GolfNow so I couldn't be happier.

You'll use every club in your bag.

Haven't played here for a couple of years and had forgotten how much fun & challenging some of the holes are to play. Good shots are rewarded with pars and birdies. Greens were in excellent shape. A great compliment to the entire staff - this is a course where a foursome of women are treated with the same respect given to any other foursome. Thank you!

Great deal for a nice course!

We payed only $30 to play this course and I had not played it in a couple of years. It was in very good shape and the layout is moderate to challenging. Quite a few shorter Par 4's but always with trouble. Lots of water and trees. Greens didn't look great but rolled very nice and held very nice as well. Great bargain!

Parkland-style course w/ lots of water -- very enjoyable

Orchard Valley is a fantastic, challenging course. It is a parkland-style course with tons of wetlands, lakes and ponds. Despite all the water, the course is very playable, although it requires a head on your shoulders to succeed. There are a number of driveable par-4s, and depending on your typical ball flight, some are worth going for while others are best handled with a humble lay-up. There are a number of longer holes as well, which really gives the course a nice balance between straightforward challenge and risk-and-reward challenge.

I've noticed a number of reviews mentioning the quality of the greens. I can only speak for my one recent experience, but the greens were in fine shape when I played - above average for a public course, but certainly not comparable to the top private country clubs with a member base devoted to maintaining the course (and willing to pay significant amounts for greenskeeping).

Although I tend to prefer links-style courses - Strawberry Creek in Kenosha, Harborside in Chicago, and Whistling Straits in Sheboygan come to mind as Midwest favorites - this is a fantastic course that I thoroughly enjoyed. Comparing Orchard Valley to my home courses, I would rate Bull Valley and Geneva National - Player as better courses, Geneva National - Palmer as on par, and Geneva National - Trevino as worse than Orchard Valley. Overall, a solid course and definitely worth it for the <$50 price range.

TL;DR - A solid, challenging course requiring thought to navigate. A great value for less than $40, a good value for less than $60.

Interesting Layout, Friendly, Professional Staff - A Very Nice Golf Experience

Orchard Valley is a nice course, offering many challenging shots for golfers of all skill levels. Hazards abound - this is a course that requires thought to navigate; I highly recommend purchasing the course yardage sheet ($2 at the Pro Shop). All in all, a very nice golf experience, one I highly recommend.

B. Casper Mgmt ruined the greens

Worst green conditions I've ever experienced at Orchard Valley and have played every year for several years since they opened. The is a great track but the sand traps need attention and again the greens are bumpy and the course is simply not worth more than say $25 or $30 to play at most.....and they charge well more than that usually......all because of the bumpy horribly maintained greens. Just beware or stay away as there are many other great golf courses in Chicago area with better green conditions.

Worth the hype

This course is ranked amount best public in Illinois, so I was surprised it was so reasonably priced. It was well maintained especially the greens. Lots of the holes have water evolved, and plenty of sand. My favorite thing about the course is the I used every club in my bag, and there is a good amount of thinking going on.

Big fairways, greens need work

Played at 7am wed. Used to play here a lot when they first opened course. Now they want to much $$$. Got great price on golf now. Course has been take over by new mgmt again. Greens are a little beat up, but course is in great shape. I would not pay the $80 which is what course wants to play weekends.
I Miss playing here! Hope they wake up! There's to many courses around in better shape with better pricing.

nothing special...needs attention

I am done with Billy Casper managed facilities...8 minute tee times are ridiculous...every time they get their hands on a course in a matter of 2 years it is a shell of what it once was...the maintenance is terrible...the staff is poorly educated on how to keep play moving...spend a few extra dollars and enjoy your round!

Enjoyable day

Course was in pretty good condition and staff was super friendly. Play got a little backed up on the back nine as there are some tough and blind holes. Driving range was in so so condition and could not hit woods.
