Course needs some work
The fist hole is a short par 4, where some can go for the green off the tee. Hole two is a par 3. Never good for pace. We were lucky that there was only one group in front of us. In prime time I bet this course has issues with pace. The 13th hole is a 450 yd par 4 where you must lay up on your tee shot and then are faced with 200(+) on the 2nd. A poorly designed hole.
Overall, this is a decent track with an interesting layout. Probably not a real test for anyone around 6 handicap or less, though. Ignore the slope rating. Personally, I think it should be lower. One of the main hazards here is the rough. It eats golf balls up, and, if you're in it, all you can do is advance the ball to the fairway. The gps offers yardages to front, center, and back of greens, which is helpful for better players. However...and this is a biggie...at random times, ads pop up on the screen, with sound!! On a few of the holes, the gps malfunctioned, showing a different hole than the one we were playing.
Some of the bunkers are dirt, and, unplayable. They should be marked as gur. Some of the rough around the greens is patchy, so, you could be two feet off the green, but, in a "hole" with little chance of getting the club on the ball. Some of the greens are diseased due to the harsh winter.
I'm a guy that plays by the rules, so these things make a huge difference. If you're the type to move your ball out of a divot you may have fun here.
Great price
Great price, decent course... Tee boxes a little beat up
good course
Course was challenging and fun to play. Back tees make it a good test. Greens need to be rolled. Pace of play on sat am was fantastic (4:15) and it was busy. Will definately be back.
5 1/2 hours course did not seem concerned
What an awful day. Five and a half hours to play 18, ranger did not seem particularly concerned with the pace of play, several times said not much more to go, pace is picking up. Greens in terrible condition, bunkers had very little sand, and then s=mostly gravel. Driving range used mats on a Thursday. The mats were very worn, could just have easily hit off the concrete. Although I live very close to this course, I doubt they will see me again anytime soon.
Thank you for your feedback, and we apologize that pace of play affected your experience at Orchard Valley. We are diligently working on ways to improve pace.
Bunkers are also being renovated and the greens were worked on in 2014. Sorry for your terrible experience and we hope to see you again.
Orchard Valley
Great course. Pace of play excellent. Fairly hot so not busy. Looking forward to replaying.
Under Rated
One of the better values in the Chicagoland area. Weekday rates come with a cart, bucket of balls, hot dog and drink at the turn, and a drink after the round.
Only small negative were the greens and tees were a bit beat up but that is to be expected with the volume of play.
The course is in good shape.
The staff is very friendly, the fairways were in great shape, the greens were a, little beat up.
Course of play was very slow over 5 hrs.
Good value for the money.
Not an expensive course, but everyone knows it.
The course was in good shape, except for the greens. The ball bounces most of the time and difficult to read. A round on Thursday afternoon took us 5 hours and 15 minutes. To their credit they did say the play would be slow, both in the proshop and starter. Food and drinks were good but service there was slow too. Price was very good and included bucket of balls and hot dog & drink at turn.
We worked on the greens and are looking forward to a great 2015. We are also implementing sevreral programs to help with pace. Hopefully we will see you soon and you will enjoy your experience!
Orchard
No better value have I had this year. Fairways were in great condition, lunch included....can't be beat
Course under repair
I have played this course before. The severe winter has impacted the course. They are repairing it and also working on their bunkers. The staff is very attentive and the course has put in special pricing to attract players. I would play the course again.
Nice coarse, great value twilight, terrible greens and tee boxes
Nice coarse but today the greens and tee boxes we're trashed I've never seen greens so bad looked like a cats scratching post.. Other than that, great deal great staff, nice place! I will be back hope they just get the greens nicer..
What a disappointment !!!
The greens are in the worst condition of any course in the western suburbs. It used to be a great course .... Is this the Billy Casper management affect???
Thank you for your review and feedback. Billy Casper Golf takes pride in our multiple courses in the Chicagoland Area and we hold our standards to a high level. The harsh winter in 2013-14 had a severe impact on Orchard Valley, and we worked hard to try and get the course back into shape. We are looking foward to 2015!
Good course good price
This was my first time here and I felt it was a real.good course for the price. Not a real easy course but not over challenging. Back nine more difficult then the front nine. Even got a free lunch. I will definitely be back.
Not Up To Par
OV was not in good shape & this was surprising as they are always one of the top courses for maintenance, etc. By this time of the year they should be in excellent shape even though all of the courses have had their difficulties due to the terrible winter. The greens, especially, were terrible on almost all of the holes & the rough in very poor shape--very uneven & clumpy or sparse. The fairways were loaded with divots.
We have an IGL tourney coming up there Aug 4 & I am an only hoping they do something by then.
Thank you for your feedback, and we apologize that course conditions impacted your experience at Orchard Valley. Although we experienced some issues in the beginning part of last season, the turf recovered nicely into the latter half of the summer and into the fall.
Nicely balanced course
By that I mean there is a nice flow of risk/reward holes, difficult holes. I enjoy this layout...it forces you to think. The course was in good shape, bunkers were being worked on. They are working on the greens, but they were hit fairly hard this winter. They are coming back, but have a ways to go. The people running the course could not be nicer. Food and beverage after the round was terrific.....great chef.
This is a fun, playable course that a group with various handicaps can play and enjoy.
June Family Outing
Course was in great shape. Played from the blue tees and this course is somewhat challenging, but fair. Had a great time. Look forward to coming back.
greens and tee boxes need work
The front nine greens still need work. The greens were bumpy and have alot of ball marks. A couple of greens had new sod patches. I would rate the greens on the front nine as below average. The greens on the back nine were much better shape and were rolling true. The greens overall were a little slow too.The tee boxes from the blue tees, had alot of divots and were pretty beat up on all 18 holes.
Thanks for your feenack. We worked hard all year to get the full 18 greens back in shape and are looking forward to the upcoming season. We also have a plan in place to keep the tee boxes up to our standards as well.
Very nice course
Course had a very nice layout bunkers need work still but there was plenty of them. It rained hard the night before that made bunkers bad. Can't beat the deal we got $29 for a round, lunch, and bucket of balls
The greens
I've always enjoyed orchard valley but unfortunately the greens were slow and bumpy whichade it extremely frustrating. Also it was annoying that we had to talk to the Marshall before they would allow us to get in a cart. They need to fix that quick.
a bargain round
Greens took a toll from the rough winter and the traps needed some TLC but the price was adjusted accordingly.
Thanks for your review. We are implementing a bunker renovation plan and will continue to work on them this season and next. We finished 11 bunkers in 2014. See you soon!
Thanks for your feeback and we worked on the course to resolve several issues in 2014. We are looking for a great 2015 season and hope to see you soon.
