Worth the Treat

First time to play here since renovations. I was impressed. Every hole has been an improvement. I like that for the most part you can play the course visually without a roadmap. GPS in carts was helpful for yardages. They rolled the greens before play and we were in one of the earliest groups, yet surfaces were a little rough around the first few holes. 4:10 pace.

An all-around great experience

Simply put, Mistwood Golf Club is a five-star experience. I say this because they get everything right here, and that starts with the owner, who made every effort a few years ago to build the best, and that includes customer service. Starting with the golf course, Ray Hearn came back in to renovate it. Mistwood has a new clubhouse, a new golf shop, new banquet facilities, a state-of-the-art performance center (with dining) that might the best in the area and McWethy's Pub (named after owner Jim McWethy) that serves great food, cocktails and draft beer in a Scottish setting overlooking the terrific par-5 third. And back tp the golf course: It's playable, challenging and beautiful. And the holes are memorable.

Best facilities around

The experience starts when you walk up. You cannot see much of the course as much of the view of the course is blocked by the club house. Walking through the narrow passage from the parking lot to the practice area makes for a grand entrance. Amazing performance center with perfectly manicured grass all around. Within the performance center is a great bar which is next to the driving range. Great links style golf course with lots of water, fescue and deep sod bunkers. The round isn't cheap ($105 w a cart on the weekend) and during prime playing time rounds can be long 4.5 - 5 hours as people take in the scenery and also look for a lot of balls.

Top 5 public in Chicagoland

I've played Mistwood well over 25 times and every year the place just gets better. From the bag drop to the 19th hole, everything at Mistwood is just amazing. New clubhouse is stunning, pro shop is great, practice facility is ranked in the top 50, that's a great accomplishment. The course is always in pristine, I mean pristine conditions. Greens are like glass but they hold approach shots with no problem. Lots of blind shots but once you play it 2-3 times you'll be fine. I still wonder why Mistwood gets snubbed on websites such as golf digest etc. Easily in the top 5 public courses in Chicagoland. They increased their fees in 2016 but they normally are busy throughout the golf year. Mistwood well done, very well done!

Probably best course in Illinois

I absolutely love this track! this course is spectacular. Greens are glass which I love! Challenging back 9. They maintain this course so well. Its even hard to find a grass blade out of place. I literally drive by this course just to see a glimpse of the beautiful layout! ugh cant say enough. Wish the people at the course knew how much I spread the word about this gem! Thankyou Mistwood for never letting up on quality golf!!

Maybe Best in Chicagoland

I really, really liked this course. It has a lot to offer. I found it very challenging with never having played it before and no one in my group having played it either. Course was in great shape and took a lot of water just before our tee time. Greens were just short of lighting fast but held really well, I'm glad it rained. Really fun track. Demands your attention off the tees and then you can attack if you know the greens and pin placements. Definitely worth the drive from the city, even worth the price and I'm cheap.

Over valued

First let me say the staff is very professional and tee to green this course is great. However the greens were terrible. They did have a great speed but where possible the bumbiest greens I've played I multiple years and had more ball marks than I've ever seen even at a cheap muny. At the price point they are at I would rather play one of the other comps. Or even one at almost half the price. Also I didn't see any significant change in the course to justify a 20 to 30 dollar price jump. Also the course plays much shorter than the yardage. Save your money play a different course.

Want a Near PGA Experience?

This course is probably the most well thought out layout (from each tee box) I've played in the Chicago area.

If you choose the correct tee box for your length off the tee you'll find traps, mounds, fescue, water and doglegs at just the correct distances to force you to use every club in your bag and to think about what club to hit off the tee and what type of shape you want to hit (if you're able). When you succeed with the correct choice off the tee and find yourself in the fairway you'll be rewarded with a great look at birdie with a variance of your short or mid-irons. You'll also have an opportunity to drive a green or two on a par 4 (like they do on TV) and may also have chance at putting for an eagle on a shorter par 5. How much fun is THAT?

The greens are not overly undulating. However they are subtly sloped so you need to take a good look at the entire slope of the area around each green so you're not fooled by what looks level but really isn't.

That being said, the only complaint I have is the shocking amount of pockmarks on these greens. Somebody needs to get on the players here to fix your ball marks. Or get some help for the greenskeeper to keep up with the damage being done to these beautiful greens.

The carts here have a great GPS system so you won't have any blind shots or surprises in distance to obstacles or hazards.

The practice facility is 5 Star quality but the main clubhouse is still being built. It looks like it's going to be one beautiful clubhouse too.

First Time Player

PROS-Great practice facility, great staff, great condition, tournament speed greens.

CONS- Too many blind shots, you need course knowledge to be succesful. Even in the fairway I always had the ball above, below, uphill or downhill lies.

PRICE-I traveled from Lisle so I have played many courses in dupage county more enjoyable for a better rate.

I would give it another chance.

Mistwood Golf Club

The Good: Up-and-coming Irish links style layout southwest of Chicago was recently renovated by original designer Ray Hearn. Superb course conditions and excellent, large greens will test all players. One of the best collections of Par 5's in the Chicago metro area, good variety in Par 4's and a few standout Par 3's on the closing nine. Visually appealing with nearly a dozen pot bunkers sprinkled throughout. Excellent clubhouse and separate dining room and bar. One of the better public practice facilities and learning centers in the state. Good service and decent value at under $100 during peak season. GPS on carts!

The Bad: Not much to complain about, but lack of nice restroom areas is a minus. On-course service can improve. Several forced carries can be tough for high handicappers. Houses aren't intrusive but still take away from the ambiance.

The Verdict: Mistwood is quickly becoming one of the true "destination" courses in greater Chicago land. A complete golfing experience - potentially could become a Top 5 public course in Illinois.

Best Hole: All the holes in "Kelpie's Korner" are brutal, but the best is the Par 5 #15 is a dogleg left around water.

Expensive

Very enjoyable round .great amenities but way over priced.there are several comparable courses to the north and west.at 62 and retired I can still play but would rather play elsewhere twice.for the same money. I can only hope they drop prices sooner rather than later.this is not meant to be offensive
