Bartlett Hills Golf Club
About
Bartlett Hills Golf Club has been a favorite Chicagoland golf destination since it first opened in 1929. To keep the layout up to modern standards, it has undergone many changes over the years but it still has the same classic character. At 6,463 yards from the back tees, this traditional layout might not be long but it still provides a fair test. Rather than distance, the golf course demands smart play and accurate shot placement thanks to narrow, tree-lined fairways and several tricky doglegs. You might not have many chances to use your driver but you'll definitely get some iron practice. There isn't too much trouble off of the tees at Bartlett Hills G.C. But greenside you'll be faced with nearly 30 strategically placed bunkers and water hazards come into play on seven holes, which include some forced carries.

Neighborhood Challenge
This course is one of many that were built just before the Great Depression of 1929, in the Chicago Metropolitan and Suburban areas. Just in time for no one to afford the course except the wealthy that built it. The course is short due to the equipment of the time. Incredible scenery and nice elevation changes. Hole 2,4,8 11,12 14 18 are the most fun holes to play giving a bit of everything. Because the course was designed with equipment that didn't go very far the holes are tight and require a straight drive. Take an extra club on 18 over the water. It's deceiving. All in all it's a fun course to play.
Should call it Bartlett HILLY OAKS
1st time at Bartlett Hills................nice course, pretty hilly for Chicagoland lots and lots of Big Trees. Played the Tips just under 6500 yds. Many of the holes are framed by the trees which gives a nice visual for approach shots to the green. Greens are fairly sloping with a decent amount of break. I enjoyed Bartlett Hills and played on a Saturday afternoon in about 3 hrs 45 minutes which was a bonus
Hi ScottLeyden,
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your round. Come back and see us again soon!
Bartlett blow out.............
We played as a two some, the group in front of us was a 5 some, foursome in front of them. When asked by course management if we were being slowed down we said, heck yes-of course! That was the extend of the conversation and nothing, nothing was done to increase pace of play or allow us to play around the groups. It was a frustrating 5.5 hour round on a Wednesday late morning round. Crazy as it seems, no help what so ever from the Bartlett staff..........!
The Hills
Great property, very nice layout, in good shape.
This is one of the better public courses out there in Chicagoland
Hi teekar,
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your round here at Bartlett Hills Golf Club. We hope you come back and see us again for your next round!
Nice Place.
Very nice course. Many trees overhang the fairways, so you'll need to be straight off the tee and on approach. Not much water.
Hi cwsoxfan,
We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our course conditions and layout. We hope to see you back again soon for your next round!
Nice course... in need of a ranger to keep pace of play up.
Picked up a good deal for a last minute tee time on golf now website. Was paired with a twosome and we got stuck behind the slowest 4-some I have ever played behind.
After 2:15 to get to the 7th hole, I called the proshop and asked if they could send someone out to have this group pick up their pace of play. They were all 20+ handicappers playing from the blue tees. The proshop indicated they did not have anyone they could send out so we ended up skipping a hole and it was clear sailing after that.
Overall the tee boxes, fairwasys and rough was it great shape. The greens were fast but they were bumpy in several areas around where the holes were cut.
Overall it is a nice course at a decent price.
I am hopeful to try it again and hopefully pace of play will improve.
Thank you for your review! We are glad that you enjoyed our course and we apologize for the pace of play. We will make sure to address this issue in the future. We look forward to having you back for your next round at Bartlett Hills!
Fun course
The greens were great fun course layout it makes you think and work a bit for pars . A fair course with food bunkers a very nice staff and good pace of play this course is a fun day of golf
Thanks for the review! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your round and hope to see you back again soon.

The course was very nice. Had difficulty finding the entrance. There is a big sign on Rt 59 but you cannot get into the course from there. Other than that it was fun to play.
Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the course and had fun! We hope to see you again soon!
No Brainer, MUST PLAY BARTLETT HILLS
Many fellow golfing friends have said I needed to get out to this course. Since its just under 30 minutes from my house on what happened to be the most gorgeous day of the year so far, it was a no brainer. The greens are little tough to figure out for several holes, but they are Quick and they roll TRUE. There are holes they make you worry about over drawing it off the tee, there are a few that worry you about over cutting it, then there are some holes that are wide open and dare you to hit it down the middle. The par 3's are just fabulous however, one of them may need to add a deeper tee box, because three of them you'll be checking the wind and choosing either 8i/9i/PW. But I suppose that's better than having to choose between Hybrid/3i/4i on 3 of them. The par 5's aren't daunting, but are not easily scored on. There are a few par 4's I just love the design and set up and two of them don't really set up to fit my eye, but as you play the hole you appreciate the set up... 13,,14 & 15 is a nice run of Par 4's. All of this and then you got the restaurant(I've heard food is very good, but have not tried it as of yet) and bar with a wraparound deck where you can watch the groups behind you hit into a 145yd par 3 over water for the 18th. I liked just about everything there was to offer here, in fact I might just go back today.

Hi Kris,
Thank you for your wonderful review! We are so happy to hear that we exceeded your expectations and consider us a Must Play! We look forward to having you back again soon!
A local favorite
I play this course a few times a year. It is in great shape for late March in Chicagoland. Greens are true but not too fast ---- yet.
Hole # 12 out of the chute is a tough hole at almost 400 yards with a narrow fairway. Followed by a potential birdie hole, teeing off from an elevated tee box over marsh on a short 360 yard hole.
Very picturesque with old trees and it suits my intermediate game with challenging holes mixed in with some easier holes.
HI EagleJS7,
Thank you for coming back to Bartlett Hills! It is great to hear that you enjoyed the conditions of the course. We look forward to having you back again soon!
Fun track
Really a hidden semi-gem. I do not review high. Too many mediocre 4 star courses. Staff friendly. Great clubhouse but way underutilized. Fun course. Challenging but playable for higher handicaps also. Conditions ok, but better in summer in past. Green conditions just ok, but very challenging slopes.
Hi Jim5899246,
Thank you for choosing Bartlett Hills. We are happy to hear that you had enjoyed a good customer service experience and the course. We hope to see you again soon.
It has hills brother...and I like it@
I've only played it twice now but I have to say I'm sold. It's just fun from the first hole to the last. Considering it's early March I'm not the least bit concerned about conditions. We had snow last week and I'm playing golf! The color green was just beginning to pop in places and it was appropriately cart path only...very soft but not total mush either.
The greens are interestingly formed and can be a tricky read if you don't care to walk around. It appears that these hills are natural and that the designer kept them in play as much as possible.
I'm very much looking forward to returning again.
Nice work Bartlett!
Hi Eric6207790,

Bartlett Hills
I have played this course now four or five times, and it has been fantastic every single time that I have played it. I love the narrow fairways with the 40+ year old trees lining them. You get great golf play, as well as a beautiful course to enjoy. Every time I have played here my foursome and I did 18, and we were averaging around 4 hours with a quick pit stop at the half way house. I did play this course once where I walked and it can provide some challenges with the elevation changes, but overall it was still great. It is a great course and slightly hidden, which is nice since it keeps the pace of play faster than other courses. Overall this is a fantastic course and I would recommend this to anyone looking to challenge their abilities.
A nice course to play in the fall
This course is certainly great to play in the fall. We caught a great fall day. There are many trees on the course and I am sure it is very scenic with the fall leafs. I think we missed it by a week though.
The course was in great shape for this time of year!
The fall rates were very fair. Pace of play was very good considering the number of people out on a nice fall afternoon.
If there was any concern, it was the snack shop at the turn between 9 and 10. The person running the snack shop paid very little attention to our group. She was much more interested in the conversation she was having with another employee visitor in the back of the snack shop. I would plan to skip on the snack shop on your visit.
Great Time Golfing
Sunday November 1st, had a beautiful day. My two buddies and I found a steal on Golfnow.com for Bartlett Hills.
I hadn't played this course in probably 15 years. I was just a beginner at the time so I couldn't really remember what it was like.
My buddies had never played it before.
We were impressed.
Being a Sunday there were a couple times we had to wait for the foursome in front of us. It wasn't bad though.
Anyone we ran into was affable, whether if it was a workman at the course or a fellow golfer.
Were there leaves on the course? Yes. But it's fall, it's that time of the year. Leaves were sparse on the greens and that's the main thing.
Are the greens fast? Yes. Just know that going in.
It had rained pretty good the night before and that led to some inconsistency in the greens. That's fine.
This course has some very scenic views from the tee boxes. I took a couple pics that could easily be on a golf calendar.
This course has some challenges but my friends and I who are mid nineties players all shot under a hundred.
One of the guys we played with is pretty judgemental about golf courses. He will not play certain courses with the rest of the group because he hates them so much. When he said he liked Bartlett Hills, I knew it passed the test of being a good golf course.
Course was in great shape
I have played this course many times over the last five years and it is in great shape for this time of the season. Fairways and greens were in great shape. The sand traps were in poor condition and in need of maintenance.
Pace of play became an issue near the middle of the front nine for the rest of the round
Great shape
It was a lovely fall day , We were almost all by ourselves, Leaves were well taken care of .
It was wonderful
nice course tucked away Gem
Staff are friendly and helpful enjoyed talking to them.
Course had some nice elevation changes and some nice mature trees and was pretty scenic for IL suburbs.
I enjoyed the layout and the risk reward options.
The pace of play was enjoyable and halfway house nice.
will be making this a play every year course.
Barlett Hills - Nice course
Nice course and in very good condition (mid-Sept). Greens were quick and with plenty of break on them. OB comes into play quite often after the 7th hole, so be careful or your score with explode (assuming you play by the rules.) Obviously with a name like Bartlett Hills, the course has some hilly terrain, so a cart is not a bad idea for those people who haven't walked 18 holes in awhile. Bottom line, I'd love to golf it again... but I should make it soon before the leaves start falling.
nice lay out good good greens
good course hot deal was too god to pass up, the staff are always friendly
