Bartlett Hills Golf Club
About
Bartlett Hills Golf Club has been a favorite Chicagoland golf destination since it first opened in 1929. To keep the layout up to modern standards, it has undergone many changes over the years but it still has the same classic character. At 6,463 yards from the back tees, this traditional layout might not be long but it still provides a fair test. Rather than distance, the golf course demands smart play and accurate shot placement thanks to narrow, tree-lined fairways and several tricky doglegs. You might not have many chances to use your driver but you'll definitely get some iron practice. There isn't too much trouble off of the tees at Bartlett Hills G.C. But greenside you'll be faced with nearly 30 strategically placed bunkers and water hazards come into play on seven holes, which include some forced carries.

Decent course
Decent course with challenging layout. Day I played was very wet so tough to judge course condition. Several holes have very tight landing area on drives. More elevation changes than similar courses in the area. Pace of play was ok when I played but might be slow on more crowded days.
Nice Shape - Greens and Traps inconsistent
Had not ventured to Bartlett Hills in a few years and forgot what a beautiful golf course it is. Lots of up and down, holes that keep your interest and very tree tight in a few areas. Good driving range and excellent clubhouse. With all the recent rain the sand traps were not up to snuff (lots of folks don't rake them) and the greens while cut that morning were not rolled. A number of the greens on the back nine especially the finishers appeared to have been heavily sanded recently. Rough was extremely long and hopefully they'll be able to cut it soon. Nice definition between fairways/rough/fringes/greens but the putting conditions were slightly sketchy, sand papery and bumpy. Groups in front of us definitely were not repairing their ball marks. 3.5 stars trending to a 4 star experience. The par 3 finishing hole over a pond is a nice change of pace and you have nice views of the 18th from the deck to enjoy a post round beverage.
We'll be back.....
Check-in was a breeze with the Club Pro behind the counter. He explained the nuances of the course. Starter was great, he also reviewed rules & regs. of the tract. We were impressed with the conditions from tees to greens. Nice elevation changes & course layout. The cart girl & the halfway house attendant were very friendly & accommodating. The greens fee seemed a bit high for a Monday. They have an ancillary charge for non-residents, as well as, a $17.00 cart fee each. I was sooooo glad that I booked with Golf-Now. It started out with perfect weather at tee off time. But, it got worse as the day went on. Our twosome made the turn in 1 hour &15 minutes. Then we caught a threesome with a foursome in front of them. To make things worse, they blew the horn while we were putting on 12 green because of lightning. So, we headed back to the clubhouse and packed up our gear. We will be back to play again & finish the last six holes this time. This is a must-play tract in the area.
Thank you for your review! We're glad you enjoyed your round at Bartlett Hills. We're sorry that you were not able to finish your round, but we are looking forward to having you back again soon!
Course was ideal for seniors
Picked a great time as course was practically deserted so no pressure at all. Greens & fairways were very good. Really enjoyed our round. Russ & Mary Ann
Thank you for your review Russ and Mary Ann! We are thrilled you enjoyed your round at Bartlett Hills. We hope to see you both back soon for your next round with us!
Unprofessional Staff
I would like to rate this course higher. It is a decent layout with lots of trees and elevation changes. However, the staff and their lack of customer service brings my rating way down.It took five hours to play on a weekday afternoon. Our tee time was delayed 27 minutes to accomadate high schoolers who were way late for their tee time.By the time we reached 18 a twosome who teed off 90 minutes after us had caught us.There was no ranger in sight and the pro offered no reasonable solution. What a total disappointment.
Thank you for your review! We apologize that you did not fully enjoy your round with us. We will make sure to address these issues so they do not arise again in the future. We hope to see you back again soon for your next round at Bartlett Hills!
Great Personality
First time playing Bartlett Hills, the course has great personality, which is hard to find anymore. Looking forward to playing there this fall when the trees begin to turn.
Hi Rudy1010,
Thank you for choosing Bartlett Hills! It's great to hear that you enjoyed playing the course for the first time. We look forward to having you back in the fall!
Hidden gem
Haven't played here in about 5 years, I forgot how nice a track this is, front a little more forgiving, back is pretty tight and calls for more accuracy off the tee. This course could make it into our regular rotation again.
Hi Michael7532183,
Thank you for your review and for making it back to us for the first time in five years! We are happy to hear that you were not disappointed and would love to make it into your regular rotation! We hope to see you again soon!
Good course
Very fun course to play and challenge you. Lots of hills which makes it fun. Good place to play if your an average golfer.
Thank you for your 5 Star review, Cristian! We are happy to hear that you had fun on our course. Please come back and play with us again soon!
greens are fast but fair!
Course maintenance is the best of any course I've played this year.
Thank you for your 5 Star review! We are so proud to hear that our conditions were the best you've played all year! Come back soon.
love this track
A hidden gem in my opinion. A good balance of challenging holes with tough drives mixed in with easier holes to attack...all while not being overly long. Many of the holes have hills and undulation which is a nice change of pace from the typical flat Illinois tracks. The greens have been in good shape the couple times I've played this season. Would definitely come back.
Hi Wonheecho85,
Thanks for the five star review! We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed our course conditions and layout. We look forward to seeing you back again soon.
Neighborhood Challenge
This course is one of many that were built just before the Great Depression of 1929, in the Chicago Metropolitan and Suburban areas. Just in time for no one to afford the course except the wealthy that built it. The course is short due to the equipment of the time. Incredible scenery and nice elevation changes. Hole 2,4,8 11,12 14 18 are the most fun holes to play giving a bit of everything. Because the course was designed with equipment that didn't go very far the holes are tight and require a straight drive. Take an extra club on 18 over the water. It's deceiving. All in all it's a fun course to play.
Hi golfan5000,
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the scenery and the elevation changes here at Bartlett Hills. We hope to see you back again soon for your next round!
Should call it Bartlett HILLY OAKS
1st time at Bartlett Hills................nice course, pretty hilly for Chicagoland lots and lots of Big Trees. Played the Tips just under 6500 yds. Many of the holes are framed by the trees which gives a nice visual for approach shots to the green. Greens are fairly sloping with a decent amount of break. I enjoyed Bartlett Hills and played on a Saturday afternoon in about 3 hrs 45 minutes which was a bonus
Hi ScottLeyden,
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your round. Come back and see us again soon!
Bartlett blow out.............
We played as a two some, the group in front of us was a 5 some, foursome in front of them. When asked by course management if we were being slowed down we said, heck yes-of course! That was the extend of the conversation and nothing, nothing was done to increase pace of play or allow us to play around the groups. It was a frustrating 5.5 hour round on a Wednesday late morning round. Crazy as it seems, no help what so ever from the Bartlett staff..........!
The Hills
Great property, very nice layout, in good shape.
This is one of the better public courses out there in Chicagoland
Hi teekar,
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your round here at Bartlett Hills Golf Club. We hope you come back and see us again for your next round!
Nice Place.
Very nice course. Many trees overhang the fairways, so you'll need to be straight off the tee and on approach. Not much water.
Hi cwsoxfan,
We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our course conditions and layout. We hope to see you back again soon for your next round!
Nice course... in need of a ranger to keep pace of play up.
Picked up a good deal for a last minute tee time on golf now website. Was paired with a twosome and we got stuck behind the slowest 4-some I have ever played behind.
After 2:15 to get to the 7th hole, I called the proshop and asked if they could send someone out to have this group pick up their pace of play. They were all 20+ handicappers playing from the blue tees. The proshop indicated they did not have anyone they could send out so we ended up skipping a hole and it was clear sailing after that.
Overall the tee boxes, fairwasys and rough was it great shape. The greens were fast but they were bumpy in several areas around where the holes were cut.
Overall it is a nice course at a decent price.
I am hopeful to try it again and hopefully pace of play will improve.
Thank you for your review! We are glad that you enjoyed our course and we apologize for the pace of play. We will make sure to address this issue in the future. We look forward to having you back for your next round at Bartlett Hills!
Fun course
The greens were great fun course layout it makes you think and work a bit for pars . A fair course with food bunkers a very nice staff and good pace of play this course is a fun day of golf

The course was very nice. Had difficulty finding the entrance. There is a big sign on Rt 59 but you cannot get into the course from there. Other than that it was fun to play.
Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the course and had fun! We hope to see you again soon!
No Brainer, MUST PLAY BARTLETT HILLS
Many fellow golfing friends have said I needed to get out to this course. Since its just under 30 minutes from my house on what happened to be the most gorgeous day of the year so far, it was a no brainer. The greens are little tough to figure out for several holes, but they are Quick and they roll TRUE. There are holes they make you worry about over drawing it off the tee, there are a few that worry you about over cutting it, then there are some holes that are wide open and dare you to hit it down the middle. The par 3's are just fabulous however, one of them may need to add a deeper tee box, because three of them you'll be checking the wind and choosing either 8i/9i/PW. But I suppose that's better than having to choose between Hybrid/3i/4i on 3 of them. The par 5's aren't daunting, but are not easily scored on. There are a few par 4's I just love the design and set up and two of them don't really set up to fit my eye, but as you play the hole you appreciate the set up... 13,,14 & 15 is a nice run of Par 4's. All of this and then you got the restaurant(I've heard food is very good, but have not tried it as of yet) and bar with a wraparound deck where you can watch the groups behind you hit into a 145yd par 3 over water for the 18th. I liked just about everything there was to offer here, in fact I might just go back today.

Hi Kris,
Thank you for your wonderful review! We are so happy to hear that we exceeded your expectations and consider us a Must Play! We look forward to having you back again soon!
A local favorite
I play this course a few times a year. It is in great shape for late March in Chicagoland. Greens are true but not too fast ---- yet.
Hole # 12 out of the chute is a tough hole at almost 400 yards with a narrow fairway. Followed by a potential birdie hole, teeing off from an elevated tee box over marsh on a short 360 yard hole.
Very picturesque with old trees and it suits my intermediate game with challenging holes mixed in with some easier holes.
HI EagleJS7,
