Blackberry Oaks Golf Club

About
Blackberry Oaks in Bristol is a public golf course that has been recognized as one of the Chicagoland area's best courses. The course design utilizes the natural beauty and hazards of the landscape including the native wetlands, grassy prairies, and towering stands of mature oaks. Blackberry Creek also meanders through the course. In addition to the natural hazards, a heavy smattering of strategically placed bunkers was also incorporated into the design. Although it can seem intimidating, the golf course isn't overly formidable if you can manage to stay out of the sand and water. The third and 12th holes are two par 4s that are memorable for their water hazards. The third has a lake along either side and the 12th has a green that is almost entirely surrounded by water.

Greens
I thought greens were in best condition in any previous round and during any previous year playing this course.
What a fun challenging course!
Up there in my top courses I've played around the Chicagoland area. Tricky layout, so it definitely helps to know your distances with clubs. Risk reward shots on alot of the holes with the creek running thru or on the side of the holes. Greens were rolling good, had a few three putts. Bunkers were in great condition and perfectly placed to make the approach shots and wedges extra challenging. Would definitely play it again!
Sooooooooo slooowwwww
Hope it was a fluke. 5 hour round shouldn’t be a thing with timed carts. Like, ever.
Good Course SLow PLay
Might have just been a bad day for pace of play, but front nine took 2:35. Back nine pace improved. Course conditions were good. Had to wait after round to eat due to short-staff in restaurant.
Good play except bunkers
I have always liked the course layout. The fairways and greens are good. I know there have been recent storms but the bunkers were generally poor. Storms explain standing water but are no excuse for poorly maintained bunkers.
Great course all around!
Very nice course in all aspects. Fairways and greens were in excellent condition and pace of play was very good. Added bonus is that they have a very nice onsite restaurant with great food and nice outside seating.
My new fave
A little wonky on pace of play but still finished in 4 hours. Bunkers are lacking sand but this course is overall excellent and best value for the money within 100 miles.
Great find
Clean cart. Great service. Best pace of play I’ve had in many rounds. Course was in very good shape. Some bunkers were a little hard and need a bit of work. Practice range is grass, which is nice but most of the grass was gone from too frequent use. New to the area and will play again. Wish the membership wasn’t so $$$ compared to the daily rate. No real incentive as there really aren’t many amenities other than early booking and short game area.
The course is great, but…
Played this course for the second time the other day. Me and two friends of mine were playing a scramble. An hour and 50 minutes in, the course marshall approached us on the 8th green and heckled us about pace of play (we had been stuck behind two slower groups the entire front 9). We finished up the front and stopped at the clubhouse to use the restroom and grab some beverages, but also to give the group behind us time to play through since they seemed so eager to get around us. When we got out the group behind us was still on the 9th green, so we headed to 10. As we approached our 2nd shot in the fairway a man from the group behind us raced up to us and started harassing us about pace of play and claimed that he works at the course as well and that they’ve been “stuck” behind us all day. Keep in mind that we finished the front in 2 hours, we had been waiting on slower groups at almost every hole, and we deliberately tried to give them time to play through at the turn.
I’m all for keeping pace, but the staff crying about a 2 hour front 9 and heckling guests about that pace while they’re trying to play is ridiculous. Don’t think I’ll be coming back any time soon.
