White Deer Run Golf Course
About
Situated on the Cuneo Estate in Vernon Hills, White Deer Run Golf Club has a beautiful landscape dotted with sparkling lakes. The rolling terrain provides plenty of elevation changes, meaning there are some uneven lies and the occasional blind shot in store for you. There are not many trees but numerous bunkers lurk beside the greens and, of course, water is a pretty prominent presence throughout the golf course. Due to the plentiful and strategically placed hazards, the course puts a premium on accuracy. The layout is challenging but fair and it is also player friendly enough for beginners, offering ample room off of the tees. White Deer Run Golf Club's design contributes greatly to the course's playability, but that is also partly due to the immaculately manicured fairways and fast, well conditioned greens.

Had the Round of my Life
I decided at the last minute on Saturday evening to make a reservation for Sunday. The weather was perfect on Sunday and when I got to White Deer I had a chance to hit some balls on the range. When I reached the course, which is in great condition, I struck the ball extremely well and had the round of my life at White Deer.
Never again
I booked a tee time for my husband, father in law and brother in law and this seemed to be THE WORST EXPERIENCE!!! I thought this was a nice place for Father’s Day golf but I was wrong!!! First I booked it for those 3 only and they get there and this place sticks some RANDOM guy with them !!! I DID NOT PAY FOR this tee time weeks advance for random people to join them. ITS FATHERS DAY!!!
Then they insult them and tell them they are behind when no one is behind them and MAKE them move holes. They moved them up 2 holes. The guy wasn’t even nice about it he was rude. I paid for them to play all 18 holes. I reserved this time for Father’s Day and you ruined the day !!!! Terrible experience and never going back!!!
Great for average golfers
Very well maintained course that is very open and great for average golfers.
Good course, wish the greens were taken care of.
Overall, this is a very fun course. Greens were rolling fast and true, but the amount of ball marks on the greens is unbelievable. Most of the marks were several days old too which just goes to show the lack of care put into this place. For the amount of money they charge, ($105.50/pp w/ cart at 6:40AM on 5/26/25), this place should be in a lot better shape, and it's been this same way the past few years. I mentioned to the pro shop after the round today about the shape of the greens and was told "comment noted" and was asked to leave. It's sad, but I live 5 minutes away and White Deer Run is no longer in the rotation. This course has potential to be atop the list of public courses in Lake County, IL, but with the current price and course conditions, I would stay away. Very nice bar staff at the turn, however.
Monday 18
I was looking online for last minute 18 holes on a Monday a d saw White Derr Run with an opening. It'd been a long time since Ibjad played it. And recall liking it before. It didn't disappoint. The traps probably could've been in better shape, and it was annoying that you had to remember to bring your rake with you for bunker shots as rakes not provided around the traps. This around the green one would have to go back to their cart if they forgot the rake. Obviously some people didn't bother and left the traps in poor shape. Oddly the next day O received a -1 HDCP adjustment and couldn't figure our why. There was nothing clearly favorable, in setup or conditions from a normal day of golf. Actually had more bad breaks where
gppd lob wedges wouldn't hold.
Clubhouse Staff Ruined the Experience
Played here many times and unfortunately my last, the course is beautiful as always… Unfortunately the clubhouse staff ruined the experience, specifically the older gentleman (red long sleeve at the time) who seemed like a lead or manager at the clubhouse. He was extremely short with all four of our group and seemed like he couldn’t handle the situation at hand, definitely not manager material. The guy who checked us in on the 1st tee and 10th tee was amazing and did all they could to make our experience better. For $122 a person (almost double nearby public courses). It was not worth the value due specifically to the gentleman in the clubhouses poor behavior and horrible customer service. This club is struggling and it’s obvious, I will never be returning here.
Early Season Conditions, but High $
Admittedly, this was an early season round, but the price certainly did not reflect the fact that the bathrooms weren't open, the greens were very slow and there were lots of divots in the fairways. It was also cart path only. There were very few golfers there when we arrived for our 11 am tee time, perhaps because of this. The layout here is really good and usually the course is in much better shape. I just think the early season conditions should have been reflected in the price.
Course Closed
Made a reservation at White Deer Run on January 25 for an 11AM start time on Jan 30 through Tee Off. Weather in Chicago has been a foldable 50 degrees. Arrived at course and only 1 maintenance man around. Never received a notification from Tee Off or White Deer Run that course was closed. Nearby Vernon Hills Course was open. Tried to call Tee Off but was continually disconnected or placed on hold permanently.
Jeff very nice nice
Course was fantastic. Big fairways. Great greens very good and fair for gofers of all levels. Wet conditions had us cart path only which made round longer
Nice courses but nothing special
Thankfully I was able to play here for $60 , it's a very nice course , well maintained and has some interesting holes but not close to being worth the usual $115 green fees .
Greens
It would be nice to know if the greens are currently aerated
Not worth $107
Nice course. I wouldn’t pay $107 again. Shop guy was sitting down and offered no course information. The Bloody Mary was good. Course layout was fun with a couple of hokey holes. Range balls are not included or at least I was not informed that they were. Pace of play was good. Cart paths were beat up enough to notice. Decent course but lacking value. Sheperds Crook and Thunderhawk come to mind.
Very difficult course
Vary tough course in terms of length hills and dozens of sand bunkers. Very hard to navigate fairways and get between holes. A challenging day of golf.
Great course
The course was in good condition despite the lack of rain....the clubhouse has been upgraded and is outstanding. The Cost of the course is more than it should be...but it is one of the nicest courses in Lake County
