SMH REALLY... IDK
For the money that they are charging to play, I'm very disappointed. The cart paths are the worst and the Geese's Sugar, Honey, Ice, Tea was every where. They are to be ashamed for the up keeping of this course course, this is Charles Barkley Terrible...
Great Links Layout
The course provides a worthy challenge to even the most skilled golfer. Generous fairways but also punitive rough & fescue. They played a Senior PGA event here some years ago. Pray you don't have high winds when playing. My biggest knock on the course are the cart paths. You'd think with the prices they charge and the play they get, there wouldn't be so many craters on the gravel paths. They have a top-notch practice facility. If you play the Port course, be prepared for the par-3 with the anchor bunker etched into the hole. It should bre a great experience!
Course has a few sand traps
Good layout, back 9 on the Port was more challenging and enjoyable than front. 18 is a great finishing hole, trouble everywhere.
Unwelcome by starter
He asked us personal questions and then he would drive by asking us if we were holding up play. Anne we were the first players on the course.
Too expensive for the experience
I’m not a pro or anything so I don’t expect to play well when I golf, but if I’m paying over $265 for two people then I’d at least expect some sort of good experience. Way too packed. We were waiting to play on every hole and the people behind us were blaring techno music so by the time we got to tee off we were listening to these drunk guys’ speakers the whole time. Last hole was covered in goose poop. Also don’t wait until the day before to tell people the clubhouse is closed. That’s bad business. If you require a 24 hour cancellation then you can’t be sending out alerts within 24 hours that the golfers can’t use the amenities they’re expecting to use.
Great Conditions, Overrated and Over Priced
The harborside courses are always in top condition. They're wildly overpriced however. The greens are ungodly slow and always overly soft. The layout is rather generic as most of the holes are next to each other. Head out to the highlands in elgin for a similar course at half the price.
The Port Course
I played the Port course at Harborside International on 07/08/2021, with three other buddies. I played it last year and the course is still in great shape from the fairways, to the greens and the bunkers. The greens rolled very nice and smooth. I believe the course is very fair if you play the correct tees. The entire staff was very courteous and friendly, especially the starter on the Port Course that day. It was a perfect day temperature wise. We teed off at 8:40 with a slight breeze, and the wind picked up steadily as the day went on, but it is Harborside and wind is to be expected. The only major issue is the cart paths are in horrible shape and in some areas, you needed to drive around them. But living in the Midwest, we all know how the weather takes a toll on pavement. We had lunch inside the clubhouse afterwards enjoying the views overlooking the eighteenth greens. I will definitely be back.
Nice round
I really enjoyed playing here today.
OMG what happen to Harborside International?!?!
So sad to see this gem go south! Fairways and rough have left over cut grass that is now taking over the course. You can’t pay $100 and see that kind of stuff all over the course. No cart girl either, I guess they were short on staff so we saw her once the entire round. Really? You gotta do better than that! What a shame, it was one of my favorite course pre covid. Take you $100 and go somewhere else, you will get better courses for that kind of money.
Harbor side Port
professional grade course. fast greens with challenging looks. highly recommended for any golfer that is below a 15 handicap and is looking to improve. a bit pricey, but you certainly get what you pay for in my opinion.
5 1/2 hours to play 15 holes
Nice course, but there is no regard for pace of play. Have played twice and have quit early both times because of the ridiculously slow play. Have only played 15 holes both times. You need more people on the course directing the golfers.
Great course, just a few bucks too expensive
Always have a great time here. Port is definitely second fiddle to starboard, but I like both more than most suburban courses.
Twilight rates are a steal and the best value.
Practice range is top notch
Will keep coming here.
COURSE AND STAFF
The golf course was in excellent condition.. The staff,Kennedy and starter Art were excellent
I enjoy myself every time I play golf here.
P. S Really miss Terry Oneill not being there anymore. Thanks Matt
Offensive pricing
The pricing of this place has become offensive. I asked the guy in the pro shop why the rates have increased so much from last year and he said it was to recoup Covid losses. Well the money certainly hasn't gone into the course because it was in average shape at best.
Harbsorside is two solid courses that are convenient to the city. Charging me $115 for either of them is ridiculous when you haven't improved the course at all over the 7 years I've been playing there. Will not be back until they start pricing the place appropriately.
Not Worth The $
I’ve played this course, both Port and Starboard,, many times over the years and I’ve never seen it in worse shape. The greens were fine but many or should I say most of the tee boxes were burned out. It used to be a nice course but no longer. Not worth the money. I won’t be returning. There are many better courses in the Chicagoland area for what they’re charging($100).
Always awesome
This course is always a pleasure to play no matter what I score (which usually isn't good)! The scenery and setting are just amazing. Needs rain desperately, but what course doesn't this year?
My favorite Chicagoland golf
This was my first round of the year. It was roughly 75+ out and sunny - fantastic. To say that Harborside was windy would be to say that it gets dark when the sun goes down - it's ALWAYS windy at Harborside.
If you're going and never have been, this is how it works:
the range is on the west side of the parking lot and the club house is on the east side. If you are only going to the range, just park by the range (it'll be on the left when you approach on the driveway.) If you are golfing, park by the club house (on the right.)
A bucket of balls and the cart are included with your round - no walking (some of the holes are too far apart.)
The challenges:
wind, fescue, fast greens
Like I said earlier, there are always strong winds.
Tall grass lines most of the holes. If your ball goes in, you'll never find it. Take your medicine and move on.
The greens are very fast, but true.
The course does not have a ton of undulation and it rewards keeping the ball in play. The rough is thick and the fescue, well . . . bring some extra balls.
