Great play
Staff and starter were beyond friendly. Course was in great condition for April and surprisingly more scenic than anticipated. Very challenging in spots, and when you add 30-40moh winds, you have your hands full. I will be back for sure.
Great time
Was a single that joined up with a 3 some. Everything was great. The greens were absolutely slick and wind 25 mph sustained but was 90 degrees so was absolutely worth it. Great challenge.
Links Style Golf in Chicago
I've played at Port twice, and Starboard once, and overall Harborside is a very solid place to play golf. You get a links style course with some views of the skyline off certain holes. Best of all the course is challenging, but fair in my view. It has some wide fairways on certain holes to give you some forgiveness, but others put some strategic bunkers. Also the rough can be a little thick, but not impossible to play out of. Minus some of the true fescue spots. Finally the greens are readable, but have some slight breaks and slopes giving you a challenge along with speed.
A couple of tips with this course. I recommend playing during twilight since it can save you a good $30-40, and it can literally be 10-20 mins apart. Twilight usually starts at 2:00pm, and all fees include cart and a warmup range bucket. They have a solid practice facility too. The only negatives is the location is out there with heavy traffic off the interstate, and pace of play can be slow at times if it's busy.
Great course!
Great course, but for a championship place the cart paths are terrible.
Kemper’s neglect ruined my favorite coarse, a slow decline over the last decade.
1pm tee time, sunny beautiful day
Harborside is devolving back into its natural state of a landfill.
Nothing special about this place anymore.
12years snd 73 rounds later I can sadly say this is no longer my favorite golf coarse in Chicago.
Go to Lost Marsh if your playing the south side forget this place
Kemper ruined this once beautiful gem of a coarse, they need to stop bragging about “Golfweek’s” top 50 coarse rating that was once given to Harborside.
That was years ago before Kemper took over.
Go to Golfweek’s site, Harborside is not even in the top 100 public coarse list.
-tee boxes on par 3’s not resurfaced left in horrible condition from previous year. Same story every year!
-Greens still full of holes from aerating, this was not a recent aeration, just lack of attention getting the greens ready for the season. Dried up aged holes, no filler, crusty dry purple greens, just give it some water the grass will grow in. We’ve had a mild winter and a warm dry early spring, no excuses here!
-terrible gas golf carts, no GPS, acceptable at a sub $40 coarse maybe.
-worst cart paths in the city, more potholes than Michigan Ave
-scorched earth landscaping, good bye to all the prairie tall grass and natural plant life, hello weed covered rolling hills
-warm drinks at the halfway house, thanks for my $5 warm gatorade, and great idea selling canned drinks. My drink bounced out of the cup holder after 15 minutes of riding the worst cart paths in the state.
-All Nautical Decor removed from coarse, sad to see those go a few years ago.
This place still has great “bones” that’s the only saving grace, thanks Dick Nugent, but Kemper is letting your once beautiful coarse go down the drain while the price keeps going up.
Staff and Course
Terry ONeil and his staff are the best..

time...l value my free time and playing
there is fun and relaxing and there’s great
scenery.... Thanks Matt
What happened to this place?
What happened to this place??? I used to come here regularly, up until I had back surgery 4 years ago, so I was very excited to get back out and play what WAS my favorite course. It is very obvious that they have not put a single dollar back into this place since I last played 4 years ago. I was shocked to see the clubhouse and facility in the condition it was in. The carpet was filthy!!! Windows and bathrooms filthy!!! and that was just the first impression as I walked into the place. It was worse when I got to the pro shop and they had dirty, worn tape on the floors to direct traffic. They then set me up with a dirty and busted looking cart. You would think that with Covid, they would put extra emphasis on cleaning, but it is obvious they don’t clean this place at all!!! If all of that wasn’t bad enough, this place has the worst golf car paths I have ever seen. They would be better to just dump gravel all over them and at least make it a somewhat smooth ride which would have been nice for our painfully slow 5.5 hour round of golf. Yeah, the golf course was fine for mid March and from what I’ve heard it is still typically in great condition during the season, but that doesn’t matter when the rest of the facility is embarrassingly run down. I’m not sure if it’s still the Port Authority in charge of running the place, but it is obvious that management is solely focused on getting as much money out of what once was one of the finer courses in the area and into their pockets. I definitely won’t be back until I hear of a complete renovation or change in management. Disappointed would be an understatement.
Links Style Golf in the City
I have played here a couple of times, but last summer was my first time. That said, this course left a great impression on me, and I played Starboard in late summer as well.
Overall the course is usually in good condition despite the amount of rounds it serves daily. The fees includes cart and a small bucket for the range. That said, there is a flaw in the fees. They either charge a $100 until 2:00pm, or $62 for twilight. Why go out at 1:40 when you can save about $40 waiting 20 mins? Most illogical, and they should do a better tier price system from peak times in mid-morning through mid-day to twilight.
Otherwise the only issue last year is the cart paths look like they haven't been touch since the 90s. Very bump like you're on safari.
Besides the weird pricing until twilight, and the paths, it's a great course overall. Challenging, but not unfair in my view. You gotta make your shots and reach the fairways, but many rough areas are playable and not impossible to get out. Also the slopes are fair too and not ridiculous on the greens or fairways where you are screwed no matter what. Slopes are supposed to challenge you, but fairly.
If you want a links style course with a few views of the skyline, check it out. It's worth it!
Top Notch Course
Amazing conditions and even better course layout! I got on the course during a “hot deal” for $37 total. It’s usually $80+ for a round BUT I feel like it would be worth the $80+ to play at! Epic course!
5/5
Excellent course for fall golf. No trees to worry about with leaves in the fairway. Great staff and facility all around.
