Port Worth The Price
Harborside’s famous Port course is absolutely worth playing if you are an advanced golfer. The Port is more difficult than the sister course, Starboard, but both are certainly worth playing. These link style courses are fun to play, are always in good conditions, and force players to hit a variety of shots. The Port hosted a Senior PGA Tour event in the early 2000’s and it’s easy to see why at 7,100 yards off the championship tees.
The course wraps around Lake Calumet and offers major elevation changes and views to the city along the way. If it’s a windy day, it will certainly feel like you’re playing at The Open. The closing holes are very entertaining including the signature #15 Anchor hole (shaped like an anchor), #16 plunges back down to the lake with an elevated tee box, #17 and 18 finishes with the lake looming on the left. All of the par-5’s are over 500 yards, so make sure you bring your long game.
Again, Harborside has one of THE best practice facilities in the Chicagoland area, period. Deep grass range, putting greens, chipping greens, etc. Prices have increased because of a major bunker renovation in 2017, but you can book a twilight tee time and save a bit on greens fees. I keep coming back and I always leave happy I played here; no wonder it’s on the top places to play.
Fun track with very fast greens
Course is still in great shape. Greens are beautiful but FAST. A little pricey but if you can snag a hot deal like i did it's well worth it. Some beautiful city views and another big plus, no houses anywhere. Fun track that will make you hit every club in your bag.. reviews are right on about the cart paths. They are a mess but the course itself is great
7 hours at the course 5 1/2 round
After a 5 1/2 hour marathon that started 40 minutes late due to a "fog" delay, I will be hard pressed to return. We arrived at 10:30 for an 11:20 Tee. Upon checking in we were told there was a fog delay and also a collegiate tournament was going on in front of us. We played the Port course, the starboard course also had a college tournament going on. This is a challenging course, not particularly easy to walk even for college aged kids. Tough pins and fast greens make for some big scores and there are no gimmes in a tournament. Our 4 some all shoots in the 80's and we play 3 times a week. This was horrible. There was a foursome who took 25 minutes to play the 1st hole, no rangers to speed them up. 3 groups of foursomes played through this slow group and not once was a ranger on hand to help. Upon finishing the round I went to vent my frustration but there were no managers on duty as it was 5:30 PM. I was offered a replay good M-Thurs for 60.0, I paid less than that thru this App. I was also told after the round the reason for the delay was because maintenance didn'thave the course ready for the tournament. All in all we spent 7 hours at the course and were told a bold face lie to before we left the pro shop 2 of our group would never go back regardless of what was offered. I am on the fence but I can say certainly that today's round of golf sucked.
Almost perfect day
Great weather, great pace of play, courses in very good condition, but for a couple minor items (odd sand trap raking, ball marks on greens). Staff was great. Owners gotta put some attention into the cart paths, everyone says this and it’s true.
Great course
Very nice course, beautiful scenic views, very fast greens, tall fescue lining almost every fairway, need some accuracy here
For the cost they really should improve the cart paths - the condition of cart paths were horrible
Cart's path was very pathetic.
The golf course was in excellent condition. I did played the two course .and I will play again there.the staffs very accommodating. The only problem i have is the carts path in the two golf coure is very pathetic and disgusting. How a two beautiful courses can deserve this. They need to spend more money on renovations. I do still feel my back pain.
Could be great
It has a challenging layout, hit the ball in the fairway or suffer. Course was beat up, practice facility was beat up, tee boxes were decent. Definitely not worth the money. Rough is just that, beat down by cart traffic. This is a $70 a round course, at best. Me personally pay a lot less for way better course conditions. I play primarily in NWI, and can play 2 rounds at very well kept courses for what I payed here. Chicago at its finest, 9% amusement tax, is also a huge downside. Save your money, there are much nicer places to play within 20 minutes of there
Good facility fallen into disrepair
Cart paths had giant pot holes, and so did the fairways, evident that money is no longer being put into course maintenance. Charging premium golf fees because of location. Used to be a premier course but no longer. Great layout, needs alot of work. Not worth the money or aggravation of getting there. Stay Away
Terrible pace of play
No rangers on the course keeping things moving. On pace for a 6hr round. Left at the 15th hole. Never again.
Amazing practice area; challenging course
Love the free practice balls before a round of golf. Course was in great shape but they’ve got to do something about the cart path. Pot holes everywhere like the streets of Chicago in spring time.
