7/5/2020 Highland Woods
Start times very accurate, course was in great condition. Following Covid rules. Staff was great.
Chicago forest preserve courses
Love playing Chicago forest preserve courses.
Top 3
1 George Dunne
2 Joe Louis The Champ
3 Highland Woods
I play Highland the most. Greens are well kept. Fairways are consistent. I love the design of this course. It fits my eye. Try it out. I hope you like this course as much as I do.
Hope you like losing balls
The course is well maintained and the staff is awesome.
That being said I am not a fan of the layout. It is very tight and winding, resulting in many lost balls and penalties. The rough is also a pain to play out of because it is crab grass and doesnt leave you with the best lie.
Overall the course is nice looking and will play great if you can always hit the ball straight or have a slight draw/fade. I would recommend this to any player with great control who wants to challenge themselves, you will have a great time here. For your average golfer it will most likely be an excruciating round that makes you question why you played in the first place.
Terrible Service
I made the mistake of coming to this course to treat a couple friends of mine to 18 and it will never happen again.
I admit I did play a part in my experience being bad, I booked and paid upfront online for a tee time walking 18 and didn’t realize it was a walking tee time. After paying 150+ dollars for it I asked if there was anyway I could get 2 carts for whatever additional fee because walking 18 in what was expecting to be a 98 degree day wasnt something that the group And I were expecting to endure that morning. Seeing a lot full of carts I was expecting this to be a somewhat easy fix but I was met with the rudest “ranger” ive ever met on a golf course in my entire life. I was dismissed by the man and I was told “there was nothing they could do for me.” “Next time check before you book”. After talking to the group, and seeing a lot full of carts, I came back in and said that I wanted a refund and only then did the ranger make a call on his Walkie talkie and asked if they could spare 1 cart, he was met with someone on the opposite end laughing and saying yeah “we have a bunch of carts, it’s fine” He “allowed us” to have 1 cart and was quick to make sure we paid for it too. Walking up the 18th hole after a grueling day in the sun, we walked up to the same lot full of the carts that they couldn’t spare for me and my group. Look I play golf often and have worked on golf courses as well and this whole experience was absolutely ridiculous. There is way too much competition in this area to have to deal with this kind of blatant lack of respect for your guests at this course. 200+ dollars in all I spent at your course today, and I myself plus anyone I golf with will not be spending money at this establishment ever again.
Highland Woods
Played an early morning round. Went fast only one holding the round up was me. Fairways and greens were in great condition. Bunkers had sand, little wet but better than the majority of courses in the area. This really is a great track, long if you want it long, forgiving and fun to play. Might be my favorite local course at the moment..
Good Forest Preserve Course
Very enjoyable round. My wife & I golfed with another couple, the wife is a new golfer. Our only complaint is that the forward tees often had long carries to the near end of the fairways, especially for the new golfer.
Very Slow players holding up the course
Took over 2 hr to get in 9 holes, left after that but paid for 18.
Great for the price!
Played after heavy rain. Greens were fast and in perfect shape. Great layout if you spray it off the tee. Fun second shots with plenty of chipping room as the bunkers are not right up against the greens. That said, there are plenty of bunkers. Always a fun course to play.
Little wet but always a great test!!
No matter when you get out here it’s always a test. The greens will get quicker as the day transpires and are always tricky!
Nice course
Played after heavy rains course pretty soggy but grounds crew were on it. Overall nice shape COVID-19 regulations in place so 2 some pace was fast 3:15 minute round.
Good course - bad players
Highland Woods is a great layout and a gem for a Forest Preserve course. Course was in great shape - not alot of play in 2020. Great value for the money. But, Highland Woods is known to be one of the slowest courses in the suburbs which is why many avoid it. The twosome in front of us only had 1 golf bag and were extremely slow. Even with 15 minute intervals, we caught them by the third hole. At one point we had 3 groups on a tee box waiting on them. They were mad that we didn't stay 15 minutes behind them the whole day! There was only 1 worker for the entire course - he tried his best to get them moving. It took over 4 hours to get around with only twosomes 15 minutes apart. That should be 3:15 at the most. In the overall scheme of things, I guess this isn't a big deal. It does get annoying when you expect to play at a fast pace though.
Mother's day
It was cold and lite rain so no chance of rain check or refund so we went. First round of the year and we played like it was the first time. Complaints are no 150 markers in fairway. No markers on either side of fairway. Some greens just in brutal shape. I have seen it better. I know it can be. Will try again in July. Hey Billy Casper, we're back.
Triple Booed
I made my reservation through GolfNow. I reserved a tee time and got three confirmations. The charges were deducted immediately from my account. I contacted GolfNow. I have not received a credit after 3 days.
Thank you for your 4 star review. Typically, it takes 7-14 days to receive your refund from GolfNow. Thank you for playing Highland Woods and we hope to see you soon.
Thank you for your review. We have added the 150 yard marks back onto the golf course for you to utilize. We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again soon.
