SLOW
At noon on a friday, it took 5 hr 10 minutes, and that was only 17 holes. I had to leave and couldn't play the 18th. I understand weekends take a bit longer, but this was ridiculous. Had to wait for extended time at every tee box, sometimes sitting with the group ahead of us as they couldn't even play. Course needs someone out there keeping pace of play up, or they just over booked the course. Either way, pretty frustrating that in over 5 hours couldn't even play 18 holes, or 17 for that matter.
Never Again
I wouldn't play this goat track again if it was free. Poor conditions, lousy greens, and pace of play is very slow, even on a Tuesday afternoon. Staff there is just as bad. Not worth a discounted rate.
We are sorry to hear that certain aspects of your visit did not meet your expectations. Recently we have received a massive amount of rain that impacted our course conditions. Thankfully the rain has held off the past few days and the course is greatly improved. We aim to provide a fun and enjoyable experience to each of our guests and hope you will be back to golf again now that our conditions are back up to par!
Lots of potential
I suppose for the prices they are now charging you cannot expect quality course conditions. The course is not overly penal and provides a great atmosphere for beginners and children. Nice folks behind the counter.
We are sorry to hear the course conditions were not up to par during your visit. Our agronomic team is working around the clock to combat the effects that the recent harsh winter had on our course. Conditions are improving daily and we expect a nice recovery this season. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the atmosphere and that our staff welcomed you with a smile. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!
Inexpensive, but for a reason
Highland Woods has a decent layout. It is very wide open and forgiving on drives, but has several holes where water can come into play and decisions must be made on the second shot. Unfortunately, the greens are in bad shape despite being kept very long and slow. The good news is that the course is about $20 cheaper than any other courses in the area on the weekends.
We apologize that course conditions were not up to our usual standards during your round. Our Agronomy Team has been working tirelessly to help the greens recover from prior year damage with different treatment methods specific to each green. Since opening the course, holes 2 and 4 have been re-sodded and all have been aerated. The recovery has been tremendous since the first week of April and we are happy to see how much progress they've made over the past month. That being said, they are continuing to improve daily, so we hope you will come back in a few weeks to play again and experience all that Highland Woods has to offer!
Highland Woods
I always used to like this course. Now the greens are in terrible shape with huge bare patches. Maintenance issues due to government funds being cut?
Thank you for your feedback, and we apologize that course conditions impacted your experience at Highland Woods. Winter in Chicago is not easy, and the golf course requires a certain window of time to recover each spring in order to bring the course up to full performance, and with that, conditions will gradually improve as the weather gets warmer. We are excited to see sunny days are ahead and we hope you will give us another chance and come out to play again soon!
Sloooow Play
I won't return. It's early in the year so take it for what it's worth. The greens were in pretty bad shape. But a five hour round on a Tuesday is crazy. The foursome in front of us was 2 holes behind. I never saw a ranger. Nobody seems to care how slow people play.
Luckily I got my green fee from Golfnow for $20.
We are sorry to hear that your experience at Highland Woods was anything less than stellar. We take feedback to heart and are actively working on making improvements on the course. Each spring, we need a certain window of time to bring the course up to full performance, and with that, conditions will gradually improve as the weather gets warmer. We are also implementing a pace of play program to encourage all guests to be mindful of keeping pace during each round, please click on the link to read more. We hope to see you again soon at Highland Woods! http://highlandwoods.forestpreservegolf.com/happenings-at-highland-woods/pace-of-play-at-highland-woods
The Middle Child
Highland Woods is better than most Cook County courses run by the Billy Casper group. Billy Casper's (RIP) company has made this course more playable. Since that organization took over they have cleaned up the course. Highland Woods is not the best of the Cook County courses but it is not the worst either. Accessible by I-90 its worth a $40 round on the weekend and something in the $30's for weekdays with a cart. It's a good course to get your friends at for a cheap round of golf.
We are pleased to hear you enjoy playing at Highland Woods and appreciate your feedback. We aim to provide a fun and enjoyable golfing experience for every golfer at our facility and look forward to welcoming you back to play again soon!
Great Value
This place is awesome for the money and playing after Christmas. Greens were very good for Kate Devember.
Highland Woods
Being that it's late December, the greens are in great condition. The rest of the course, however, is a different story. The fairways were soggy caused by overnight rain. The course couldn't absorb the rain water along with the thawing from the December freeze given the course layout is relatively flat. I would recommend this course for itts playability with beginners and option to play close to 7,000 yards for advance players.
very nice layout
Very nice layout.......lots of land......no holes seem similar.......but greens need better attention.......
nice course for a forest preserve course
they wanted me to pay the fee on my receipt but I told them it was paid on-line with a Visa Card directly to Golfnow and he said it that was unusual and re=read my e-mail receipt and apologized. no harm done.the 3 some & 4 some ahead of us were very slow (as if it was their first time out and we waited 15 to 25 minutes on each hole to tee off; There should have been a Ranger on the course moving things along.
Good value
I always enjoy playing this course. Many different looks to the holes. Subtle undulations on several greens. One drawback - always plays slow. Plan on 4.5 - 5 hours if you come out.
extremely slow
Arrived at the course at 3:00pm a hour prior to our 4pm tee time, front desk informed us they were 15 minutes behind on tee times. Course was short on carts, end up teeing off 25 minutes after our scheduled tee time. Our 3 some was placed behind a 5 some??? We ended up finishing 9 holes in just over 3 hours. The pace was extremely slow and in my opinion course management made a bad decision placing a 5 some on the course. For the price i would not reccomend this course.
Good Shape After Rain
1 day after a 2 inch rain this course was very playable. Some sand traps had water in them but there was someone working on them. Staff was very friendly. Greens and fairways were in good shape considering the amount of rain yesterday......good job!
Took Monday off work
Course in very good shape! Some challenges for sure.
Good for its money from reserving " golfnow.com ", on line
Good golf course! I enjoy playing at Highland Woods !
This course will Fool You
For a public course this course was in great shape and the greens were good as well. It is wide open but bunkers are place strategically where you have to place your shot well. Although there doesn't seem to be that much water, the water that is there is somewhat challenging. A nice 200 yd Par 3 from the blue tees over water can be deceptive. The 18th hole is a very picturesque hole to finish the round. However you can score well at this course. My buddies and I are already arranging another round now that we know the layout. Highly recommend this course to play. Oh yeah great rates in the afternoon.
Variety
Course has some unique and challenging holes. I've played here many times and found that afternoon tee times (12-3) tend to have faster rounds than in the morning
Slow play hurts
We did front 9 in 3 hrs and would have had a 6 hr round but one of the 4 groups in front of us at 10 called it quits so we did the back 9 in 2.5 hrs. Tee time was Noon on a warm day so the place was packed.
We played the course from the Blues tees (6700yds) and the layout is great if you like/need wide open fairways. For a Forest Preserve course you'll love its challenge. Plan for a long day and enjoy.
Highland Woods
A very good course for the $20 i paid. Greens were challenging but lots of fun. rough was really rough for around the green. A great place to lose a bunch of golfballs if youre a noobie like me
We are sorry to hear that pace of play affected your experience at Highland Woods. We experience a high volume of play, especially on beautiful sunny days, like this past weekend. We understand pace of play is important to an awesome guest experience at the course and we do our best to encourage each guest to keep pace. We are actively working on a program for Highland Woods to improve pace of play. Our goal is to provide a fun and outstanding experience to each guest, and we hope that you will come again and play soon!
