course Review
Played a few time this course. It is relatively easy course and the condition of course is average. Some fair way need some work, bunkers do not have enough sand and some standing water in the sand trap.
Pace of Play
I have played this course a few times. One time - our start was delayed 2 hours - they were running that slow. Another time - I had to quit after 9 holes because it was obvious that it was going to be a 6 hour round and I didn't have that much time that day. This time - it was a 5 1/2 hour round. Not sure why I didn't learn my lesson the first 2 times- but I am sure I won't try it again. No rangers in sight!
Won't go back.
5:20 round on a sunny day with not cart restrictions is ridiculous. Some of the greens were patched so green speeds were inconsistent. Fairway grass was spotty and bare in some cases. Except for Kelly the cart girl, staff was argumentative or apathetic. For $20 it seemed like a good deal unti we played. For a beginner or inexperienced golfer the course might be okay, but if you play the game with any regularity, forget it.
Needs lots of maintenance
The course is close to work so I play after work mostly here. The fairways needs some work and the greens most definitely needs a lot of work. Lots of divots and sections with basically just the dirt with no grass. But for the rate of green fee paid it does the job. Lots of bugs too more so than any other courses I have played at around the same time of day.
Clean Course
I liked the course. If you can hit fairways this course is a fair test.
Unfortunately, my colleagues could not. This meant the pace of play was slow and often I was waiting for the others to catch up.
On the day I played the sand bunkers were a little wet, so I didn't see the course in all it's glory.
Putting was true, but the ball rolled through a number of bumps on the way to the hole.
No sure why but I was able to chip very well on this course.
Long day......
If it wasn't for the hottie in front of us playing golf in a white skirt we would have left after 9 holes. The pace of play was horrendous and nobody was out to enforce it. If you have 5+ hours to golf 18 then you would enjoy this forgiving set up. It's still a decent course for most golfers but I'm used to a little higher standard. Great for beginners and a foursome of hacks who want to drink beer.
Could be better
While the fairways and rough of this course are in good shape, it's the greens and bunkers that give this course a bad rap. The greens are very inconsistent and slow overall, they could be kept better. The bunkers have little sand in them so have fun trying to get the ball out of clay and anywhere near the hole. If they could put more time and effort into their greens and bunkers, this would be a great track
This cours has some very challenging holes.
Although some of the greens were in rough shape, the course has some unique and challenging holes that really make it an enjoyable round.. The clubhouse staff was very nice and hospitable.
Friendly staff
Fun course to play. Greens were in good shape. Very friendly staff
Too much waiting time
I have to cancer on Sunday for 2 players. The waiting time over 50 minutes. Golf ranger need to make longer time separation or push the player keep pace.
Greens in bad shape
Almost every green has dead spots and patches that were replaced. Greens were very slow. Pace of play was over 5 hours. It seems like the problem with the greens is at most courses in the area. Bad winter must have contributed.
the course was in good shape, greens needed a little work
course overall nice greens dry and burnt up in spots, had to move ball for putting.
Greens were like a mine field
I've played Highland Woods 25 times. 1st time this year. Was always impressed with how well a park district course was maintained. This year, 14 of the greens were ripped up, with some disease or a huge dead areas in the middle of the greens. Many of the fairways were also beaten up. I don't know if it was because of the harsh winter or lack of proper care. Very disappointed.
starter needed
It does not matter when your tee time is. You get in line and wait. On #10 3 guys hopped past us and we had to wait for them on the next hole. They told us they were told to do that from staff in clubhouse. Not cool. This used to be a well run course.
quickest 18 weekend fpg round
Went out at noon on sunday, was blue skies and lower 70s, perfect weather. Figured the course would be packed. Finished the round just a shade under 4 hrs, didn't have to wait once. Course was in good condition for the price ($25 for 18 n cart).
Slow play
It to us 5 :30 to play eighteen holes. Condition of course was very bad. They do not have enough golf carts had to wait for carts to come it. I'm done playing there. There are much better golf course out there .
slow play
On a Saturday at 11 this course took 5 1/2 hours to play. Never saw a Ranger pushing the pace. The course is a little rough for the end of May. Greens and fairways had bare spots. Wide open with a lot of sand traps, not much water. Staff was nice, beer girl came around frequently.
Pace of play horrible
Quit after 15 holes for we had five hours in with still three holes to play. No rangers around to police the pace of play. Course was in horrible shape all the greens had some sort of weather damage from the winter. Complain to person in charge about pace of play and was told he did everything he could when in fact he did nothing. Will not waste my time going to this course again.
not bad.
Good place to visit and play.
Fairway is good and easy.
Great deal for this course
The course was in decent condition. A few of the fairways & greens had some torn up grass from the rough winter we had in Illinois this year. Other then that the course was in good shape & will only get better.
