Highway noise
The noise level from highway traffic is a bad issue along with needing better markings to navigate the course. Everyone we spoke with was a new employee and not very helpful. Maybe just growing pains from becoming a public course but I would need good incentives to play the course again.
Best Value in Chicago
Great course. Seriously best value in Chicago. Outstanding course. Staff is great.
Adding it to the rotation
First time playing this course and have to say I’ll be adding it into my regular rotation of courses. Greens were in superb condition, layout is great but club house is certainly lacking. Really hope the management firm that bought this course continues to keep this course in great shape.
Check out Calumet C.C.
A good Ross course close to the hwy and Ravisloe. This course is fun but challenging, with some recent tweaks to the hole order. Good greens, quick play, great place to zip around quickly.
Great HOT deal
Played this for the first time as a public course after having played it countless times as a private course. The course is taking some abuse but the greens remain the best I’ve played all year.
They decided (for some reason) to switch the order of the holes. Not a fan of that change but the course is still a lot of fun.
Another south south gem
Donald Ross course for reasonable price. Hard to beat. As good as Ravisloe.
Disappointing Donald Ross course
This course was a private country club since 1901. After all the hype of being a Donald Ross design, it ended up to be a disappointment. The greens were awful, not only were they covered with maple tree samaras (helicopters) making it impossible to putt, it seems the greens also had some kind of blight. To play the 16th hole, you are forced to cross over the 10th fairway in front of the tee box. The course is not marked well and trying to find the 16th hole requires a NASA GPS. Save your money and go down the street and play Ravisloe CC, also a Donald Ross design but with much more character. BTW, there was no staff at the bag drop to assist you either.
Interesting place - would play again.
A private club that was hemmed in by the expressway some decades ago. This led to reconstructions of several holes, and I was told 12 remain the original Donald Ross design. Still a wonderful place to play, and the only thing I didn't like was I-80 that was hard by several holes. Teeing off from either 1 or 10, you do get that private club feel. Conditions were generally excellent, unless you stray too far from the primary rough, and the rough was lush and rightly penal. A couple of greens were patchy. In general, the greens were fast and a few were very challenging - the type of greens where you have to know which part to hit to. Overall, you can tell that this club has seen better times, but if you go just for golf, there's something wonderful about this place.
The course is in true country club shape. Greens are so smooth. Grounds crew did a great job on keeping the dead leaves cleared. Played in 3.25 hours on a Friday morning.
Please repair ball marks and divots and keep the course a pleasure to play.
Wonderful parkland D. Ross built 1901
Thanks to GolfNow we enjoyed a "member for a day" deal at this private. They are having a membership drive - Calumet has slightly under 150 members and are trying to get it up into the 180's or so. 7700 to join no food mins. This is a wonderful parkland course that's really challenging from the blues/whites. The silver tees are much more fun. Excellent conditioning and old school greens that have some nice slopes - although I don't think any of the greens are original Ross....a little is left there....but none of which I would say is overtly over the top Ross which I expected a little more of. Really nice routing. Old school clubhouse with nice bar area - men's locker room and showers are really old and could use an update to attract more members as well. Rest of clubhouse interior is extremely tired - exterior of clubhouse looks really nice - the banquet meeting areas are very dated. It didn't appear the pool was open this season - didn't ask so I could be wrong. This is a wonderful play but features I80/I294 along the entire north course boundary and freeway truck/traffic noise is so extreme you have to yell at playing partners just so they can hear you - really tough to "relax" with that type of noise on about 6 holes - so a full star deduction - the noise was too much for me....a real crying shame.....but still would go back as CCC is a lot of old school fun superbly conditioned..
Very nice course in great condition
Enjoyed the round very much very nice course in great condition and a great value for the money. Definitely in country club condition, greens were very fast and true.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
