Sad state.
Calumet CC is a Donald Ross classic design -- a former private tournament club with 125 years of history. That the public is fortunate enough to play it is exceptional.
That said, I have never seen a golf course in worse conditions. Even neglected munis are better than this. The fairways are unmowed and weed-infested, as are many bunkers. The tee time I booked included a cart, but they were not even letting carts on the course, nor did they have any pushcarts. I was forced to carry my bags which is irritating, especially not having been notified of the same.
It is sad to see. The course is historical and I absolutely love the layout. I keep wishing someone will buy the course and return it to some semblance of a playable golf course, but for some reason the course keeps declining. I am not sure how much longer they can keep this charade up.
Calumet country club not well kept
Most of the greens were burnt up. Grass and grounds not well maintained. No washroom working in clubhouse and no porta potty on course.
Losing its appeal
Calumet was once a beautiful private course. In its current condition, I only played it because of the Golfnow hot deal for a weekend rate. In it current state I gave it a rating of 3 out of 5.
Nice old school course
The course it similar to many built before 1910 it has some long par 4’s and Par 3’ with a fun layout. The greens were good. I got court for a good rate 28 dollars with a cart but when I arrived they did not have any carts. He refunded one of our two tee fees and we walked. This course is easy to walk because like most older courses the next tee box is close to the green if the Previous hole.
Play elsewhere
They canceled my tee time the day before due to “weather” but my tee time was re posted shortly after. Could not get ahold of the pro shop.
Played there the following week, and booked with a cart. Although after getting there it was walking only. Not a huge deal but no reimbursement or trying to make whole in either scenario.
Course wise- tee boxes are pretty trash, fairway bunkers are overgrown with weeds, and lots of leaves.
Tee boxes and traps need work.
Tee boxes and traps need work. Greens are fast and tricky. Fairways are good. Lack of signage is a pain. No longer CC quality, but a good course at a good price.
Most sand traps and signage are poor but course length, challenging holes and good value are all there.
Most holes do not say what number it is. Sinage with arrows are need for next hole especially leaving j#15 Most sand traps are poor and should be filled in and seeded. Purse is long and there are some hollering holes.
Should be closed
Course is a dumpster fire from the new general manager to the sand traps with rocks, tree limbs, and weeds in them.
Signage is poor. We spent several extra minutes tying to find the next hole especially #16.
