Not Like it Used to Be
This used to be a really good course, but it’s obviously been let go. There are no amenities anymore, the tee boxes are a joke, and the greens are just hanging on. It’s a real shame.
Catfish - 2010 pictures
Pictures make this course look beautiful and I’m sure it was…in 2005.
Super excited to play this course and thought we were getting a deal, only to arrive and feel catfished.
You pull into the “country club” and realize the pictures are from 2010.
You realize there’s actually no driving range, no restrooms, and no snack bar.
GPS doesn’t work because they’ve been switching the course around.
To get to a few holes you have to cross the middle of the fairway for other holes.
The course isn’t bad.
In 2010 I bet it was amazing.
It’s just old now.
…. If they took care of the greens and sand traps I would probably play again… just not 70$
Decent place, not worth the money
Greens were all dead, dandelions everywhere made it hard to find a ball, even in the fairway. Hot deal for 58 bucks with cart.
Not amused
For the price of $70, and being a country club you would think they would have it together. To start you pull in and the parking lot is a mess with over grown plants, not manicured. We arrive 4 minutes prior to the tee time and waited to be serviced for 5 minutes to where the lady then indicated we were late... she said our tee time was 1 minute ago and I told her well we were standing in front of you for the past 5 minutes.
The course layout is trash, GPS isnt correct and the greens are basically bare.
Awesome course
Course is great, layout and conditions are next level, price is totally fair, pro shop guy was less than friendly but aside from that totally good time
More than meets the eye
I’m baffled by all of these negative reviews. I just played and was thoroughly impressed. First off the course layout is SPECTACULAR—Ive played the Biltmore in Miami and this layout impressed me more. Like, seriously. My friend and I (with whom I also played the Biltmore) could easily imagine tournaments being played here. Which indeed they were. The fairways were closely mowed, and even though the greens were speckled in color, they rolled PURE, like deceivingly smooth. And the rough is tricky with dandelions like people say (definitely keep an eye on your ball) but that’s a fun challenge! There are some fairway bunkers that aren’t cleaned, but that actually also made for some creative shots that were frequently rewarding. Yes there isn’t really a clubhouse. At the end of the day, this course is past its prime, but in my humble opinion, they’re spending their money in all the right places. I really think you should ignore the negative reviews and give this special layout a try.
Not kept up at all
It is very clear that the course is either going under or being sold. The history seems great and if the conditions were ok, it would be a great layout. There are dandelions everywhere and the tee boxes are either weeds or sand. Greens are ok but they do not water them. Really too bad because it has the potential to be a cool course if the owners cared at all.
Course conditions
Horrible upkeep, dandelions overgrowth everywhere. The layout is fantastic. I could tell back in it's day this place was awesome. This was my first time on this course so I wanted to see the layout. Narrow fairways and sharp dog legs. Rated pace of play so low because of searching for golf balls in 6in tall weeds.
Calumet County Club
Greens are in great shape but tee boxes need some work.
Good for price course could be in better shape especially tee boxes
Needs work
Fairways are in fairly good shape but greens need a lot of work. Course layout is confusing and GPS for apps is not updated so apps are useless. Still an interesting course that is playable but recommend at a low cost only
Sad state.
Calumet CC is a Donald Ross classic design -- a former private tournament club with 125 years of history. That the public is fortunate enough to play it is exceptional.
That said, I have never seen a golf course in worse conditions. Even neglected munis are better than this. The fairways are unmowed and weed-infested, as are many bunkers. The tee time I booked included a cart, but they were not even letting carts on the course, nor did they have any pushcarts. I was forced to carry my bags which is irritating, especially not having been notified of the same.
It is sad to see. The course is historical and I absolutely love the layout. I keep wishing someone will buy the course and return it to some semblance of a playable golf course, but for some reason the course keeps declining. I am not sure how much longer they can keep this charade up.
Calumet country club not well kept
Most of the greens were burnt up. Grass and grounds not well maintained. No washroom working in clubhouse and no porta potty on course.
