Great Course to Play
Challenging course with lots of variations. Will definitely play again!
Horrible greens
The fairways are in great shape but stay out of the rough. The first cut of rough will swallow the ball. Overall, this was first course I have played where the players have no regards for the greens. Every green was covered in unrepaired divots. This course has a golf academy, but the 1 lesson they are not teaching is how to repair divots on greens. The clubhouse would do the course a great service to hand out divot tools and a free lesson on repairing diivots.I don't mean to carry on and on about the divots but I repaired 3 every time I repaired my own and the green was still covered with ball sized holes all over. I don't blame the greens keepers, I blame the players for not caring about the course
GREAT public course
One of the best public courses I've ever played, and I've lived and played all over the country. Makes me wish I lived in Oak Ridge so I could play here more often.
Thank you for playing our course recently and thank you also for your kind words. It is nice to know when our goal of providing a great golfer experience is met. We hope to see you again soon. - Don Tillar Jr., GM
Excellent Experience
The golf course was in great shape. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. In every aspect of this course it was neat and well kept. It was an all around fun experience! i will definitely be back to Centennial Golf Course for more golf.
Thank you for your recent patronage and rave review. We really appreciate both! We look forward to seeing you again here soon! Don Tillar Jr., GM
Frustrating
They do not have a starter thus creating a late start as two foursomes cut in front of us delaying us 25 minutes. Also no marshalls meant the two groups ahead of us had no worries with time as they continued to goof off the entire round. After 5 1/2 hours we quit after 14 holes. A shame as it is a fairly nice course. Just understaffed.
Thank you for playing our course recently and also for your valuable feedback.. It is very important to us to know how we are doing, so that we may make changes when we fall short of providing the type of experience we strive to provide. We attempt to employee starters only when they are needed, but we clearly fell short of that goal in your case. I am reviewing our schedule of starters and will make adjustments based on your feedback. Please accept my apology for the troubles you experienced and I hope you give us another chance soon. Bring extra balls
If you spray the ball, skip this course. The front is much harder and tighter than the back. Very little room if you miss the fairway. The course is quite a challenge.
Fun course
The course was in good condition and fun to play.
Burnt out staff
There was no starter so we went to the 1st tee and s group that had a later tee time had already began playing (there is a use for a starter) the pace wasn't awful but would have been much better if we weren't behind the foursome I mentioned. The course is always nice, but the greens were beat up. I ordered food for 3 while on the 8th hole. 3 groups passed us on the turn while waiting for our food, and the staff was clearly worn out or just didn't care muc. I frequently play this course through the week and expect these things during the week, However this was mid day Saturday.
Thank you for playing our course recently and also, I really appreciate the feedback - it is very helpful. I am sorry your experience was less than you had hoped for but rest assured, the problems you experienced (no starter, tired staff, etc.) have addressed and changes in personnel and scheduling patterns have been made. My sincere hope is that you will have a much improved experience the next time, if we are so fortunate, you play Centennial. Again, please accept my apology for your unsatisfactory visit and we hope to see you again soon! - Don Tillar Jr., GM
No starter/ranger=poor place of play
I had an 8:12 tee time and when I pulled up to the first tee, at 8:10 here were already three groups waiting on the tee. The lack of having a starter allowed three twosomes to tee off before 8 am without pairing up. On top of that there was no ranger during the entire round to manage these groups or speed up the pace of play. Needless to say it took almost five hours to play this round. Plus I did not see any on course beverage service the whole time we were on the course. The only positive thing I havhave to say about this course is that it was in pretty good condition for a public course. The orange(back) tee boxes were all in good shape. The greens were in good condition but could have been a little bit faster.
Thank you for your recent visit to our course and thank you for the feedback on your visit, both are greatly appreciated. Please accept my apology that your experience did not live up to your expectation. Based on your and others feedback, we have added more starters and rangers to the schedule to help improve the overall experience. Thanks for your comments on the condition of the course, I will pass them on to the maintenance staff. We look forward to seeing you here again soon! - Don Tillar Jr., GM
Chance Taken
Booked this course with no knowledge of what I would be getting. It was on the way back from a golf trip to Gatlinburg and wish I would have known about Centennial first. Far better than I expected and extremely better than what was played in Gatlinburg.
Will be back!
Bring Extra Balls
This course was pretty challenging if you aren't hitting the ball straight. On almost every hole there is trouble off the fairway. Be sure to bring more balls than you'd think. (I never lose balls and lost 4 in 18 holes). It is a challenging course from the back, but very fun and accessible for the better players.
Great value!
Centennial is in fantastic shape! The management have really gone out of their way to make this the best golf value in East Tennessee -- by a wide margin! I will definitely be back often.
Excellent Experience
The greens are in great condition for how early it is in the year. Fun layout with a very tight front nine. It would have been extremely helpful to have a yardage book. The course has 150 yd and 100 yd markers, but not always easy to find the 100. A few blind tee shots and water or hazards that are drivable, so I got in trouble when I wasn't expecting it. Not a great course for beginners. Otherwise, staff was helpful and friendly. fun afternoon of golf.
Never Again!
I had read some reviews that warned about this course, but thought for the price it was worth a try anyway. I was wrong. We paid to play 18 but quit after 10 holes. The two foursomes in front of us were playing at an unbelievably slow pace and this course had no rangers to ensure a reasonable pace of play. I have played some slow rounds before, but I have never before seen any particular group play as slowly as those in front of us.
Also, we arrived early so we could hit some balls on the range. However, when we got there the ball machine was empty. I inquired at the clubhouse re: the range balls and they indicated that someone was going to be collecting them and they should have some in about 10 minutes. About 30 minutes later we finally see someone bring out the machine to begin picking up the balls. Then after two trips across the landing area to collect balls, he stopped to chat with another worker. End result, no range balls 45 minutes after my initial inquiry so we played out round without any practice.
I will NEVER play this course again and would strongly suggest that others do not unless they are willing to endure a 5+ hour round of golf on a course that is in considerable need of improvement, especially as it relates to the lack of ball mark repairs on virtually every green.
Thank you very much for your feedback on your recent visit to Centennial Golf Course. It is much appreciated. We are grateful for your patronage, and for the time you took out of your busy day to let us know how we are doing. It is critically important for us to know when the experience we provide is less than ideal.
I am very sorry we did not live up to your expectations. We experienced a large number of golfers in a short period of time that day, and as a twosome following 2 hours of foursomes, I have no doubt that play felt very slow. The driving range issue has been addressed with a new order of range balls which we expect to be delivered shortly.
I would like to talk with you further about your experience if possible. If that is ok with you, please contact me at dtillar@centennialgc.com with details on how best to get a hold of you.
Again, thank you for your valuable feedback and I hope someday you decide to give us another chance.
Until then, best regards,
Don Tillar Jr. - GM
I want to like this course.
I want to like this course but the par 4 finishing hole is terrible. From the cart you walk up a few stairs to see a stone that reads "Hit a 200 yard shot to the ideal landing area".
The hole demands a shot to a fairway with a ravine long, dense trees right and trouble left. The problem is you can't visualize the shot because of the vagueness of it all.
Does a 200 yard shot take you to the end of the fairway? 20 yds short of it? 50yds? It's not easy to put a good swing on the ball if you're uncertain of the outcome.
My suggestion is to put a marker in the fairway 200 yds from the center of the green and at the tee box describe the yardage to the 200 yard marker. That way the player can see how much room he's working with long and short of the marker stick. I'd say 150yd stick but I think that would be in the ravine.
Overall, I like the course. There's a lot of variety and elevation change. The greens were a little beat up and it's overall soggy. Poor drainage. 3/5 stars.
And we want you to like to like the course too! Thank you so much for your review. We understand your frustration at playing number 18 (The Gulch) as we have heard the same concerns in the past. It is a demanding finishing hole, especially if you have never played it before. You bring up a great suggestion about additional markers. We will review over the Winter and see what player friendly changes/additions we can make. Thanks again and we hope to see you at the course again soon.

First time Challenge
Some earlier reviews had me worried. Yes the cart paths need repair and tee boxes are not great, but the fairways and the greens are in fine condition. Both the greens and the fairways present real challenges especially for a first timer to the course. Yardage info on the tee boxes and on the course are helpful but someone familiar with the course is the most help. Pace of play was not a problem today and ball marks no worse than my heavily played course in Boone, NC.
We really appreciate your review and we glad you had a good time while. Our Maintenance staff has worked really hard this past summer to improve the conditions left by a tough winter (see http://www.centennialgc.com/tanners-take for more information). And we agree, local knowledge is very helpful. Our staff is always willing to give some pointers before your round. Thanks again and we hope to see you see soon.

Fun course to play
This is a very fun course to play with plenty of dog legs and obstacles. They have a cool range to warm up on before. The views were amazing. Only one or two rough patches on the course. but it was fun to play
Thank you so much for the nice comments. We have worked very hard on improving the conditions and we are very happy you enjoyed yourself. We look forward to seeing you again.

Course condtions
Course is not marked very well. Tee boxes are in rough shape. Greens are pretty slow.
Thank you for your feedback. We are certainly disappointed you we not happy with conditions. We have worked hard in making improvements this year (see http://www.centennialgc.com/tanners-take for more information).
But I would love to talk to you further about your comments to see if we can win you back. Please contact me at dtillar@centennialgc.com at your earliest convenience.

Great price
I played here three weeks ago and greens is still in bad shape. Saw groups with carts in fairways when it was cart path only. Cart path from 7 tee box was extremely dangerous as is was raining, and had to drive into grass to save it. Staff was very friendly. I will return next year.
Oak Ridge Moose Lodge Ruining it for others
I TRY to play this course regularly. I have even joined their Twilight Players Program. For the last five weeks I have only been able to make it to the course on Thursdays, right behind the moose lodge league. They are not respecting the course, group into two fivesomes as soon as they are out of sight, I watched as they failed to repair ball marks. Play extremely slow and let very few play through. I have advised the pro-shop each time and they say they will take care of it. Today as I was headed out I was told they were out there again, when I said something needed to be said to them about pace of play, l was laughed at by the pro-shop worker as he reiterated that it was the Moose Lodge League.
Now for the course condition, with the lack of respect these older gentlemen have for the course, I can see why it is in the shape it is in.
If you don't have someone to go to the course with you that has played it before, go else where, not a beginners course by any means. The course has several areas with drainage issues, and multiple blind shots.
The GM posted on here that he is trying to make improvements, Billy Casper Managment needs to get him some help, lots of the people playing don't respect the course
Thank you very much for your feedback, it is very helpful to us and I appreciate it. I agree with your observations that we have a ball mark problems here at Centennial. We are initiating an education program - with flyers, posters and blog/facebook postings addressing the subject. If you have any other ideas on how to combat this issue, please let me know, I'm always looking to borrow someone else's great idea. Thanks again for your patronage and your concern for our course. We hope to see you again here soon. - Don Tillar Jr., GM
