Slow play eminent
Took 5.5 hours to play on Saturday. A little overly crowded. Slow play not governed. Would have appreciated the help to speed some slower golfers up.
Almost 7 hour round of golf
5 some in front of us all day playing 2-3 balls off the tee and fairway. Waited 20+ minutes on each tee box. Then the ranger tells our group to pick up the pace of play. I usually play 18 in under 4 hours with my 4some. The 5 some should've been asked to allow us to play through or been sent packing for playing 15 balls off each tee. Used to be a great course but the pace of play is as bad as I've ever seen. Won't be back for a while.
Course is in Great Condition
Course had seemed to go down hill a few years ago so I quit playing there. I've started back playing there this year, and I was Amazed at the difference. I believe it's under new management now. Fairways and Greens are superb. Staff is super friendly. Food is great. Best hotdogs of any course I've been to. It is also a kid friendly golf course, which I don't understand why more courses are not, since the kids are there future paying customers. I'm excited about the course now, and it's 10 minutes from where I live. Keep up the great work!
This course has a great layout
Great course for the money and good food with a friendly staff. Tight holes with nice fairways and greens. Will be back for sure.
Really nice, challenging greens....
Nice course layout, but fairways suffered a good deal of winter damage and are being worked on as play continues even around the workers and sprinklers.
The greens are very good and challenging. Once the fairways and around the greens are brought back to health, the course will be very good...
Needs Some Work
The course is not terribly long but the greens are quite challenging. The greens were the highlight as they rolled quite good. Very tricky greens to read and can be quite fast. Speed from green to green can be inconsistent though. Anyway, I really enjoyed the challenge of the greens and that is what kept me from giving a lower rating.
The layout is cool, a little tricky at times and as already stated #18 is just really odd and a rough finish. Basically hit 7 iron then 7 iron to finish out. Lots of layups and precise tee shots needed. Also a couple par 4's that you can think about driving. Overall a neat layout. This also helped keep my rating in the middle.
As nice as the greens were and as neat of a layout it is hard to really enjoy it when you have a 5 hour round. Tee time was 7:40...got to tee off about 15 minutes late and had to wait on almost every shot. Walked off #18 5 hours later. Agree with previous reviews that they need a marshal or three.
Also, the tee boxes are in rough shape. They need to be punched so some grass can grow. Luckily the ones that were most messed up were not par 3's and you typically had good grass on the par 3's. Still kind of discouraging teeing off on dirt at times.
Bigger issue they are working on is sod all over the course. Lots of sod. And the wooden pallets it came on...just laying in the fairway. I also know nothing about sod but they just laid it on top and didnt bury it or put it flush to the existing fairway. Just seems odd and not sure how they will mow the fairways. Again, that could be the right way to do it so forgive my ignorance but it doesnt take away from the fact there was alot of sod that you obviously cant hit from or stand on. Fairly heavy new sod around some greens too...they laid it flush though so no real issues unless you are putting thru it.
Anyway...the rate was $33 so it wasnt terrible. Really liked the greens and layout but the cons just outweighed the pros this time. The good news is that all the issues can be fixed. Once that sod get grown in and the tee boxes get a little TLC the conditions should be really good. The tough part will be getting the pace of play fixed.
I'm not counting them out, but it may be a while before I return.
Unrealized Potential
This course has great potential. Unfortunately, over the last couple of years the course has really struggled in two key areas - 1. maintaining course conditions and 2. managing pace of play.
There are a couple of drivable par 4s. Hole 5 is kind of a quirky and 18 is just plain goofy (terrible finishing hole), but other than that, the course has a really fun layout.
The last couple of seasons the course conditions have been pretty rough - lots of dead spots on greens (issues with boring insects too) and bare areas in fairways. I hope that doesn't happen again this year.
Pace of play has also been an issue. I've never seen a ranger.
Slooooow Play! / no ranger / over 5 hours to play 18
Poor - mid day on Friday aerifying fairways - right in the middle of play - no courtesy or respect to stop while players coming through
Thank you for your feedback and patronage, both are much valued and appreciated. I am sorry your recent visits to Centennial have not lived up to your expectations. I promise, we will do better next time. I have discussed your interaction with the maintenance staff and can assure you that courtesy and respect will be shown to all guests moving forward. Thank you again for your past play and we hope to see you here again soon!
poor pace of play
no starter present on Sunday afternoon. Allowed singles to tee off among threesomes and foursomes. Waited on every hole on front nine. Later saw a sixsome playing a few holes ahead....didnt effect us until waiting on the final couple of holes. Some groups quit after 9 holes or the round would have exceeded 5 hours.
Thank you for your feedback and patronage, both are much valued and appreciated. I am sorry your recent visits to Centennial have not lived up to your expectations. I promise, we will do better next time. We have just initiated a new Ranger/Ambassador program at Centennial which we hope will ease the pace of play issues you experienced. Thank you again for your past play and we hope to see you here again soon!
Way too long to play!
Took over 5 hours to play 18 holes. Teed off 10 minutes after tee time was reserved. Love the course and had a great rate but will go somewhere else because of time.
Spring golf
Centennial is about to be in great shape. Greens are already rolling very smooth and fairways and rough is greening up nicely.
Fairways
Greens were great, staff was friendly, fairways were the worts to have ever seen them at this course. No grass in most areas and where there was grass it was very thin. Course was wet from all them rain , very muddy. Will wait till later in the summer before playing here again, give the fairways a chance to thicken up.
Great course
Tightly played course. A great challenge. I would recommend this course.
Nice Track
Played the course roughly 50 or 60 times. Keeps getting better and better. They have added some water to some holes and have done the necessary work to make the course better. #1 is probably one of the toughest par 5s in the area. Some tight holes but some scoring holes too. Good layout. Greens are usually pretty decent as well. Course gets lots of play because of the fair price. I think Centennial is a definite play in Knoxville area.
good layout
course is challenge. Cart paths really need some work. Seems like the greens conditions have gone down lately
Loved elevated layout.
9th hole is all way challenges and fun, no bad shots allowed.
Stay away
This course has a nice layout and was once considered to be a quality course. I could not believe the reviews that were critical of the course conditions so I decided to play it.
There are fairway problems, tee bed problems, and green issues. To start weeds are more prevelant than grass in the fairways. Tee beds have been resodded, but with no water on the patches the sod is dying. Greens are full of unrepaied ball marks, and the mowers do not clear clumps of grass off the greens...on one hole the clump was so big we did not see the ball in it.
There are indications that attempts are being made, but basics are ignored. Water the tee bed patches, clear cut grass off the greens, put sand on the carts so that golfers can repair divots, and give away repair tools and ask every golfer to fix two or three marks every green.
This course is not worth the money charged...there are too many well maintained courses within a fifteen minute drive that charge the same rates or less.
I told the pro shop staff all of this and sincerely hope that things change for the better.
Centenial Golf Course Oak Ridge TN
Great golf course. First and last holes are tough, with a large area of dense vegetation to get over. Lots of bunkers. Good wide open fairways and rolling greens.
First Time
Course had a nice layout. Some of the greens needed work, but overall they rolled smooth and very receptive. Pay attention to the signs on the t box indicating idea length to hit shots. Will definitely play again. Some of the t boxes were very rough. Suggest players learn how to replace their marks on the greens.
