Great value!
Centennial is in fantastic shape! The management have really gone out of their way to make this the best golf value in East Tennessee -- by a wide margin! I will definitely be back often.
Excellent Experience
The greens are in great condition for how early it is in the year. Fun layout with a very tight front nine. It would have been extremely helpful to have a yardage book. The course has 150 yd and 100 yd markers, but not always easy to find the 100. A few blind tee shots and water or hazards that are drivable, so I got in trouble when I wasn't expecting it. Not a great course for beginners. Otherwise, staff was helpful and friendly. fun afternoon of golf.
Never Again!
I had read some reviews that warned about this course, but thought for the price it was worth a try anyway. I was wrong. We paid to play 18 but quit after 10 holes. The two foursomes in front of us were playing at an unbelievably slow pace and this course had no rangers to ensure a reasonable pace of play. I have played some slow rounds before, but I have never before seen any particular group play as slowly as those in front of us.
Also, we arrived early so we could hit some balls on the range. However, when we got there the ball machine was empty. I inquired at the clubhouse re: the range balls and they indicated that someone was going to be collecting them and they should have some in about 10 minutes. About 30 minutes later we finally see someone bring out the machine to begin picking up the balls. Then after two trips across the landing area to collect balls, he stopped to chat with another worker. End result, no range balls 45 minutes after my initial inquiry so we played out round without any practice.
I will NEVER play this course again and would strongly suggest that others do not unless they are willing to endure a 5+ hour round of golf on a course that is in considerable need of improvement, especially as it relates to the lack of ball mark repairs on virtually every green.
I want to like this course.
I want to like this course but the par 4 finishing hole is terrible. From the cart you walk up a few stairs to see a stone that reads "Hit a 200 yard shot to the ideal landing area".
The hole demands a shot to a fairway with a ravine long, dense trees right and trouble left. The problem is you can't visualize the shot because of the vagueness of it all.
Does a 200 yard shot take you to the end of the fairway? 20 yds short of it? 50yds? It's not easy to put a good swing on the ball if you're uncertain of the outcome.
My suggestion is to put a marker in the fairway 200 yds from the center of the green and at the tee box describe the yardage to the 200 yard marker. That way the player can see how much room he's working with long and short of the marker stick. I'd say 150yd stick but I think that would be in the ravine.
Overall, I like the course. There's a lot of variety and elevation change. The greens were a little beat up and it's overall soggy. Poor drainage. 3/5 stars.
And we want you to like to like the course too! Thank you so much for your review. We understand your frustration at playing number 18 (The Gulch) as we have heard the same concerns in the past. It is a demanding finishing hole, especially if you have never played it before. You bring up a great suggestion about additional markers. We will review over the Winter and see what player friendly changes/additions we can make. Thanks again and we hope to see you at the course again soon.

First time Challenge
Some earlier reviews had me worried. Yes the cart paths need repair and tee boxes are not great, but the fairways and the greens are in fine condition. Both the greens and the fairways present real challenges especially for a first timer to the course. Yardage info on the tee boxes and on the course are helpful but someone familiar with the course is the most help. Pace of play was not a problem today and ball marks no worse than my heavily played course in Boone, NC.
We really appreciate your review and we glad you had a good time while. Our Maintenance staff has worked really hard this past summer to improve the conditions left by a tough winter (see http://www.centennialgc.com/tanners-take for more information). And we agree, local knowledge is very helpful. Our staff is always willing to give some pointers before your round. Thanks again and we hope to see you see soon.

Fun course to play
This is a very fun course to play with plenty of dog legs and obstacles. They have a cool range to warm up on before. The views were amazing. Only one or two rough patches on the course. but it was fun to play
Thank you so much for the nice comments. We have worked very hard on improving the conditions and we are very happy you enjoyed yourself. We look forward to seeing you again.

Course condtions
Course is not marked very well. Tee boxes are in rough shape. Greens are pretty slow.
Thank you for your feedback. We are certainly disappointed you we not happy with conditions. We have worked hard in making improvements this year (see http://www.centennialgc.com/tanners-take for more information).
But I would love to talk to you further about your comments to see if we can win you back. Please contact me at dtillar@centennialgc.com at your earliest convenience.

Great price
I played here three weeks ago and greens is still in bad shape. Saw groups with carts in fairways when it was cart path only. Cart path from 7 tee box was extremely dangerous as is was raining, and had to drive into grass to save it. Staff was very friendly. I will return next year.
Oak Ridge Moose Lodge Ruining it for others
I TRY to play this course regularly. I have even joined their Twilight Players Program. For the last five weeks I have only been able to make it to the course on Thursdays, right behind the moose lodge league. They are not respecting the course, group into two fivesomes as soon as they are out of sight, I watched as they failed to repair ball marks. Play extremely slow and let very few play through. I have advised the pro-shop each time and they say they will take care of it. Today as I was headed out I was told they were out there again, when I said something needed to be said to them about pace of play, l was laughed at by the pro-shop worker as he reiterated that it was the Moose Lodge League.
Now for the course condition, with the lack of respect these older gentlemen have for the course, I can see why it is in the shape it is in.
If you don't have someone to go to the course with you that has played it before, go else where, not a beginners course by any means. The course has several areas with drainage issues, and multiple blind shots.
The GM posted on here that he is trying to make improvements, Billy Casper Managment needs to get him some help, lots of the people playing don't respect the course
This course has noticeable issues
my son & I really like playing here. Noticeable issues : cart paths are in rough shape, greens were below standards., all golfers were teeing off on the back 9 and it took us 4 hours & 45 minutes to play 18.
slow pace
Got a good deal online, played 4 man. got backed up on back 9. couldnt play 18th 11 people waiting to tee off. singles need to be paired up with doubles. no ranger.
greens are starting to wear. patchy. fairways were ok, high ruff had be mowed down.
over all not bad for what we paid. had to be right at 4 hrs. anyway, for a tuesday mid day thats pretty slow pace.
Not bad... still needs work.
I almost hesitated to reserve a round here after reading the most recent results. However, I got a good deal this morning and I figured it couldn't be that bad. I've played at Centennial more times than I can count in the past, and it's currently in the worst shape I've ever played it, but even then it's really not that bad at all. I love the course layout and the way it plays and I would come back tomorrow, but I wouldn't pay full price.
It's showing some signs of neglect. The fairways were in great shape, but most of the tee boxes were torn up, and the markers were moved around, allowing unused boxes to heal.
Most of the greens are also having some issues, but they've kept the flag placement away from those patches and they play fine. The biggest problem is that nobody repairs ball marks here. It's just pathetic the lack of golfer decency and respect at this course. I repaired countless ball marks near the holes that you would have had to have been blind not to notice. Inexcusable.
Does the course need work? Yes. Is it in horrible shape and not worth $25? Not at all. I only complained about 3-4 tee boxes.
Fairways: 8/10
Greens: 6/10
Tee Boxes: 5/10
Rough: 9/10
I would return here with friends, but I probably wouldn't bring work clients here, at least not in its current shape.
Play with someone who knows course
Note: Not knowing the course is a major factor in my review. Only Yardage markings are at the 150yd. and tee boxes were TERRIBLE, they were also free on any stone yardage markers that would have helped on the bigger boxes. It would have been very helpful if a ranger had been on duty to manage pace of play which was aweful slow. I can say that the greens rolled well. not a course to play if you are not familiar with it.
Pick another course
Arrived early to hit range balls after paying and going to driving range ball machine was empty my son went back to clubhouse to notify them after 10 minutes no one arrived I called clubhouse to inquire and the said they decided to close range early. We went to play then greens were in very bad shape fairways were alright pace of play was slow
Fair Condition
Upon arrival, the staff was very helpful and inviting. As we proceeded to the first tee we found ourselves being held back by 10 minutes from our original tee time. Upon arriving to the first green, we were disappointed at the condition of the green and it continued throughout the day. The fairways were kept up well but the greens were damaged from unrepaired ball marks, old cup holes and spots of dead grass were everywhere. Beautiful area, narrow fairways and a moderate challenge. The course was really busy so I must attribute some of the conditions to that, suggest a shutdown on a few greens for recovery.
Needs rehab.
I love this course.
But I needs some serious help. The greens are pretty rough but on the mend. They have made drastic improvements with the fairways this year, but the cart paths will beat you to death trying to get there.
I wouldn't suggest entertaining clients or colleagues at this course, but do enjoy the course for its naturally challenging layout.
It's not worth paying more than $27.00 per round at this point.
Hopefully by next year the course will be back to where it needs to be to entertain.
course is declining
Staff was fine. Greens were pitiful and bare. Tee boxes were in trouble. Pace of play was very tough as a threesome was holding up 4 twosomes. I have played Centennial in the past but its been over a year. The course needs a manager and greenskeeper.
Fun courae
The course was in pretty good shape my biggest complaint was the fact that it was way to backed up and there was not a ranger monitoring it. They were letting people start on the back 9 so it was very back up and we were waiting for about 15 minutes or more on every hole on the back. No reason on a Sunday evening for that to happen.
Thank you very much for your feedback on your recent visit to Centennial Golf Course. It is much appreciated. We are grateful for your patronage, and for the time you took out of your busy day to let us know how we are doing. It is critically important for us to know when the experience we provide is less than ideal.
I am very sorry we did not live up to your expectations. We experienced a large number of golfers in a short period of time that day, and as a twosome following 2 hours of foursomes, I have no doubt that play felt very slow. The driving range issue has been addressed with a new order of range balls which we expect to be delivered shortly.
I would like to talk with you further about your experience if possible. If that is ok with you, please contact me at dtillar@centennialgc.com with details on how best to get a hold of you.
Again, thank you for your valuable feedback and I hope someday you decide to give us another chance.
Until then, best regards,
Don Tillar Jr. - GM
