Glade Valley Golf Club

About
Nestled in the foothills of the Catoctin Mountains about 15 minutes from Fredricksburg, Glade Valley Golf Club has been selected as a top-100 golf course in the Mid-Atlantic region by Washington Golf Monthly. The Jim Reck design, which opened in 1990, has a nice mix of woods, water, natural habitat and sand traps that will test golfers, but the golf course isn't overly difficult.

Glade Valley April
Most of the fairways are in, and the rough is thick. Tee boxes are hard-packed.
One of the best courses in this area
This is a challenging course for intermediate golfers, but a relaxing one.
Wonderful course
This course was wonderful. I enjoyed it. The value was great. The pace of play was poor. There were people in front of me, and they were moving slow as molasses.
Nice course...slow play
Course was decent. Loved the GPS on the cart. No effort was made to speed up play though. We did not see a ranger. Players in front of us did not know proper golf etiquette. Several players were definitely hitting from the wrong tee box. This happens on a lot of courses.
Owner Mibong Hong hates people with disabilities!
If I could give Glade Valley Golf Club a rating lower than one star I would. The owner of the course, Mibong Hong, hates people with disabilities and is overtly rude and violent towards them. I recommend that you not spend your money in this man’s business. He apparently also owns West Winds in New Market, MD.
I am 60 years old, and need to use a golf cart with a handicap flag. I have a breathing condition, and issues with my knees, that make it difficult for me to walk up and down hills. At this course they gave me a driving cart with the handicap setting turned on. They use carts with a GPS system that controls where they can go. This allows me to drive closer to the tee boxes and the greens than other golfers in their carts. I have been playing golf for 51 years, and know etiquette on a course. I would never do anything to damage the course, the tees, or the greens. I fill other people’s divots and fix other people’s ball marks on the greens.
On the 10th tee, my first hole, as a single, Mr. Hong had just hit a drive. There was a woman in his cart. I offered to play with them. He said, “No.” I asked if he wanted me to play through so that I was hitting into them as a single behind them. He said sure. I drove up to the Senior Tee. I hit a nice drive, and with a couple more shots I was on the green in 4. I drove my cart up to the left side of the green, 2-3 yards off the green. I 3-putted for a 7, unfortunately, and headed to the 11th Tee. I hit my drive and started down the fairway. Mr. Hong drives up in his cart yelling at me that I drove the cart onto the green. I told him, “I did not. I have a handicap cart which lets me drive close the green.” He was not hearing any of it. He just kept yelling at me that, “I drove the cart onto the green. I saw you.” I didn’t know who he was, so I drove away from him. A few minutes later the lady from the pro shop comes out in a cart and politely told me that that man is the owner of the course and wants me off of this golf course. She told me she would refund my money. I accepted and told her that I didn’t want to get her in trouble because she was so professional with me the whole time. I hit balls on the driving range and then left. Now I am writing this review. I am very disappointed in how I was treated.
Tricky greens!!
I really enjoyed this course. Greens were the most difficult part. Overall good condition will be returning
Fun round
The course is in decent shape. It looks like there is a fair amount of work being done throughout the course. The greens were quite fast and they were in good condition. The only problem that I had, and I didn't realize it until we had left, was that they charged my partner for the round when it was already prepaid.
