15th green, one of the few that wasn’t all patchy on the edges and gives you a nice scenery of those pine trees. Photo submitted by BuffaloBen15 on 10/26/2020
nice greens
After playing some other courses in the area over memorial weekend, we ended up here because it was close to home. The grounds loooked great, fairways lush, greens well kept and no flood conditions. Pace was slow on the front 9, back opened up nicely. Not the toughest course or the longest, but arrant tee shots will cost you strokes.
Needs some TLC
Keep in mind this is an older well established course.
We played Memorial Day at 0900 and got right off, unfortunately the foursome in front of us was here for a party of non stop drinking, this was an issue all day and slowed play in a big way. The cart paths are in worse shape then our highways, just horrible and filled with large holes, they clearly need some work.
A lot of the trees that come into play are overgrown and need to be groomed, this is part of the older course issues, but the greens have been well maintained. As for the bar and food it is very good with a wonderful staff and has a large selection of food to choose from.
Overall for your local neighborhood course it is ok, it just is in need of some TLC and it will play much better.
Time doesn't matter
So to start off I made the tee time late the night before which was convenient but the price that I payed, which stated that it was discounted ended up being about 6 dollars more a person! Yea I probably should have checked the course website first but thought that Golf Now would be accurate. Next was the 7 o'clock supposed tee time. We should up about 10 minutes early only to be met by other golfers waiting to tee off stating that no one was in the office. We waited around until about 730 but could not wait any longer. Since we had already payed we decided to walk the front 9. We were met by rude grounds crew that stated that we were not allowed to walk and that we had to have a cart, which made no sense to us. We finished the first hole and instead of going back we just kept going. At the turn we went into the office to get a cart and was met with little remorse or apology. I guess next time we will try somewhere else.
Solid Round of Golf
Not the nicest course by any means but I was overall impressed. The greens were quite challenging to make up for a lot of the holes being shorter than normal. Great value!
fern hill
Beer drinking course for hacks! That's it, plain and simple! There was a cart sitting in a pond near the 14th hole with the reverse alarm going off!
Fern Hill
Played Fern Hill on a pretty windy day. Overall the course was in decent shape. The greens were pretty solid as well. I have played course and expected the course to be in poor shape. Surprisingly it was in great shape and greens rolled well too. Played 18 holes under 4 hours, that is always nice.
SHORT BUT SWEET
This is a very short course but is very tight. If you are good with your irons you will love this place.
SHORT BUT SWEET
This is a very short course but demands accuracy. If you are good with your irons you'll shoot well here.
Dirty, nasty course
this course needs to take care of the goose "cigars". you could smell it and it was all over the greens and the fairway at some spots very muddy course. it is in bad shape got all my clubs extemely dirty and the carts are not good. will not be going back unless they fix the problems
Very rude staff
My wife and I paid for the 6:00 tee time through golf now. When we arrived on a beautiful night....we were greeted by a man having an apparent bad day. He stated..."how many holes did you pay for. It's our discretion when we can kick you off". Great work fern hill....your course and bar is walking distance from my house. Due to one person who knows absolutely nothing about a customer experience....you have lost me for life.
Great greens but everything else is in bad shape
Greens are fast and smooth but fairways have a great deal of water damage and are hard. The tee boxes are in terrible shape and some of the holes are a bit goofy but for the price its worth it.
Good
Nice little course. Trees on the back nine need to be cut back to give wider look to fairways.
Interesting course if you haven't played
Front nine is the easier, back nine brings many creeks and trees and the river into play, Area flooded a few times this year and damaged more than a couple grassy areas. Lots of clay and little grass in those areas. . This year A few courses along the Clinton river experiencing similar issues. Mother Nature brings additional difficulty to each hole. That could be a good thing. Leave your high bounce wedges at home.
Big mistake
The course was in horrible shape from the tee box's down to the greens. I have to say I didn't expect much to begin with, but it was just awful. I finished 9 holes in about 3 hours and walked off. I wouldn't go back even if they dropped there prices down to $5, it's that bad.
Worst course I have ever played at
Its like playing on a parking lot. The ground is rock solid and not kept up. Greens are a mess. Paid for 18 holes left after finishing 7. Miserable
Back 9 unplayable
At this moment, Fern Hill is unplayable. Every hole had some sort of ground under repair/flooding. A majority of the holes are going under sprinkler repair, so you deel with huge open holes in the middle of the fairway. The back 9 is flooded due to the rain and over flow from the Clintron River. Most of the tee boxes on the back nine are in poor condition and the tee-boxes weren't even set on the back 9.
Not worth the time or money.
City course
Don't waste your money or time, this is a short dirt path.
poor
Front nine in good condition back nine really poor one whole didnt even seem to have a green The ground was so hard you get no relief when not perfect and 350 a beer is nuts your course should match the price of your beer. If your just out for drinks the bar was pretty sweet food was good and quality beverages.
