Pristine right now

Fairways are carpet, greens are true. Green side traps have new sand. Some fairway traps are still being improved. Highly recommend playing soon before it gets hot.

First time since COVID, great golf course

Played here a few times before COVID hit. Great place to play golf. It has changed. Hole numbering changed in 2020, says the score card. It's a beautiful layout and great idea (nestled within a historical quarry) for a golf course. Less traffic and signs of wear than courses in Orange County and LA. Many greens looked great. Pretty scenery for photos, e.g. Hole #6 and #16. Pace of play was comfortable. Staff were very good and prompt. Bring healthy snacks, plenty of water, do not litter, and repair all of your divots. Here are the Pros and Cons, and changes since playing before COVID:

Pros:

- Always picturesque with the quarry features, great wildlife (birds, rabbits), less foot/cart traffic so the grass grows here, 85% of this course's grass is manicured well.

- Greens were slow, well maintained, and rolled true, great slopes for chipping, challenging pin positions at times

- Cart was in great shape, GPS, hole details, accurate yardage, cooler with ice, and very good braking

- Tee boxes were great shape, moved up, with a variety

- Fairways were in great shape, with wildlife visible

- Signature hole and picturesque holes were perfect

- Pro shop had course-specific merchandise in stock, friendly staff (better than before)

- Beautiful overlooks, challenging holes, elevation changes, great use of the surrounding terrain

- Practice putting green (near the practice range) and near Hole #1 were perfect.

- Chipping green near the practice range was great

- Beautiful valleys, rock structures, drop locations look great, great layout and course for 22 years old.

- Lakes were colorful (mixed blues and greens), challenging placement, great for Hole #1 and #18

- Friendly staff checked on each player for anything needed, with no attitude (much better than before)

- Quick and efficient tee time check-in at pro shop, and clear navigation instructions by all staff

Cons:

- Sand traps need full maintenance, need fresh sand, repaired immediately (much worse than before; weeds, hard surface, muddy spots, edges are rough; very ugly looking feature)

- Driving range grass needs to be improved/fixed (worse than before)

- Driving range balls are way too old, cut up, never show true distance, and need replacement immediately (worse than before)

- No water provided on course, all tee area water coolers were missing (worse than before)

- All ball washers had no water, several damaged, older and aged, all needs replacement (worse than before)

- No marshals at all on the course, some random players confused after Hole #9 searching for clubhouse (not the best, people need to rest after 9 holes)

- Comfort Station needs to be renovated, very basic looking and not comfortable (same)

- Halfway House only provides restrooms, no food or drinks at all - it should be fully functional (same)

- Divots were visible at certain tee boxes, less manicured spots visible, some divots on fairways with no sand

- New signage was somewhat confusing at times, and not permanent professional signs (temporary looking signs)

- Podium near the entrance circle looked neglected, unused, aged and damaged by weather (ugly structure)

- Clubhouse food area doesn't look fancy, very hot dog stand-looking place with regular furniture (need more beautiful furniture and more professional dining area)

- Trash was visibly jammed in bushes, brush, rolling on few fairways via wind (needs to be cleaned)

- No food cart driving around the course, so bring your own food/water

Final notes to management:

Oak Quarry is a beautiful golf course with a great layout/design. Fix and improve all of items on the Cons promptly. Need to manicure this place 100%, and business will exponentially increase.

Greens and Waste Bunkers

The course was in outstanding shape…particular tees and fairways. The greens were nice, but slow and bumpy.

The waste bunkers were in terrible shape. Yes, it’s a waste bunker, but at least correct course irrigation run off that creates unfair/nearly unplayable conditions.

BUNKERS need TLC

Overall great outing with my Pops as always. Tees were moved up considerably, but most likely do to holiday weekend and pace of play. I feel for the price though, greens could've been in better condition. There were yellow spots on every green.

Bunkers are the biggest issue here. First 2 holes had decent bunkers but once you got to 3 the bunkers were full of weeds and puddles of water.

Oak Quarry would be great if they maintained the bunkers

Amazing location, wonderful layout, solid pace of play, clean tee boxes, smooth greens...garbage bunkers. Bunkers have rocks, pebbles, sticks, bones, feathers, everything but sand. They fix this and OQ is top notch.

Still a sold course, and reasonable rates during certain times, but I would be reluctant to pay more than $100 for slower pace during peak times.
