Golden Hawk Golf Club
About
Golden Hawk Golf Club is an 18-hole course in Casco Township, which is just south of Richmond. You won't find too many elevation changes throughout the course but you will encounter plenty of water. There are also 36 bunkers coming into play on 12 holes. The course isn't particularly long at 6,117 yards from the back tees, but the par 4s offers some good length and the ample room off the fairways gives the course a spacious feel. The fairways are generous and quite forgiving, but golfers will face tough approaches to the greens, which are often nestled into the woods or bordered by ponds. The slightly elevated, undulating putting surfaces require accuracy. Golden Hawk Golf Club is a fair test but it's player friendly enough for high handicappers to approach with confidence.

Good Sunday Morning Round
Solid option in this area. 9 holes on a Sunday AM was expecting it to be pretty full and it was. Good for them, kid in the shop said we got a great deal on GolfNow so that made us feel good. It was nice to see a 9 hole option for 2 players on a Sunday AM.
Pretty nice layout, blind first tee shot and played the whites as 3 other players in the group needed to play there. I only hit driver 2 or 3 times and if played blue might have been a little more normal 5 to 7 times. Big greens and everything was in pretty good condition, not pristine but good, fairway weren't shaggy but it was early in the AM so wasn't tight. Layout was pretty standard for the area, a few open holes that run along side each other which is good for spraying the ball around and 2 to 3 shots that look like bowling alleys where you have to keep it tight and forced layup.
To Many Outings
This was the third time I have played here this year. Each time we have had to follow a large outing made up of people that play probably once or twice a year. It was a death march. When am I going to learn to ask ahead of time if there is an outing the day I want to play.
Sad
The lack of attention Vargo Management Company is providing at this course is extremely noticeable. The condition they present this course to the customers in is an absolute disgrace. My advice to the owner of the golf course is to fire Vargo, immediately. I see it as the only way to save the reputation of your property as a hidden gem before it’s too late and they’ve stripped it of it’s beauty. For some added confirmation, give a call to Chandler Park or Racham and ask how much money and effort were required to restore the health of their property once Vargo had been in control of it for a relatively short period of time.
Pleasant Surprise
Great experience this time around at Golden Hawk Golf Course. We were hesitant to come after our 6 hour round last year. We decided to give it a go because the price was right. $39 on a weekend morning is terrific. We were pleasantly surprised with our 4 hour round this Sunday morning. No issues getting around the course and the conditions were excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful. The only disappointment seems to be the trees that had been cut down all around the course. Seemed bare and the course itself lost some of its charm. Overall a great experience though.
Educate the Players
Took us almost 5 1/2 hours to play. Not because it was crowded but, because the golfers in front of us didn't know the etiquette or rules of the game. No one ever asked us if we would like to play through so, we skipped a hole to get in front of them. Then there were 3 guys that played army golf. Both carts would go over to one guys ball wait for him to hit then they all would go over to the next guys ball and watch him hit then they went to the 3rd. guys ball and waited for him to hit. It was almost comical. Then there were 7 people playing together on another hole.
Golden Hawk personnel need to police the course more in an effort to stop that type of play.
Other than that, the course is fun to play.
Needs Trees
The course is not the same since DTE cut so many trees down. used to be a pretty course is now a wide open every day track. I'll still play here though, because the price is right.
To Many trees cut down
While the course remains in good shape it is a shame there were so many trees cut down. Many I believe were removed un necessarily. Some of the charm of the course is gone.
Course was in good condition considering all the rain we've had. Cart paths were in rough shape and the traps were full of water, but we had a great time. 1st time there and it was a bit of a challenge with the tight fairways and water hazards. Liked it a lot !
Great course
Fairways were well maintained, and held there challenges. Every hole had great layout.
Wet,Wet,Wet
Didn't know it rained so hard here. Everything was saturated. We had the course pretty much to ourselves except for the couple in front of us. I think they were drinking to much. The greens were very soft. I must have fixed two / three ball marks on every one. Hopefully, it will be dry next time we play here.
Pace of Play Sucks
I've played this course at least 20 times over the past 10-15 years and the pace of play has become awful. Never saw a marshal. Done with this course.
Five Hours
I usually give this course good ratings however, yesterday was not a good round. Took the two of us 2 3/4 hours to play the front nine and a few minutes past five hours for the whole round. Very frustrating. Also, Vargo Golf had better pay more attention to course maintenance. Wet weather has taken its toll on the fairways, rough and greens.
Great shape
Fairways and greens are in great shape.
Be aware you need to hit fairways to play well. The rough is deep and difficult advance st times.
Will play again soon.
Rained out
Twilight rare, poured after 4 holes, asked for a 9 hole raincheck. Turned down flat. I ve used Goldenhawk for 4 wedding and baby showers for 2 of my daughters. Still have one daughter to go, her showers wont be at Goldenhawk.
Thanks for listening
My last review covered the cart paths and condition of the club house. I'm happy to see the cart paths are being repaired and while I was there I saw someone on the roof picking the weeds / trees out of the gutters. The course itself was in nice shape but, I don't understand why some of the ponds are almost empty and some are full! It was an enjoyable round even though we had to skip a hole due to very slow players in front of us,
sun scorched
The recent sun and heat wave has taken its toll on the terrain. The ponds are at very low levels. The greens however, are still in nice shape.
