Sugar Creek Golf Course
About
Sugar Creek Golf Course offers some of the best scenery of any course in the St. Louis area. Golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside from the course's elevated tees. The course opened in 1990 with several improvements made in the following years. The layout is a manageable length at just under 6,100 yards. It is player-friendly enough for beginners to approach with confidence but there are also challenges in store for more advanced players. Water only comes into play on one hole but there are stands of trees lining the narrow fairways. The golf course will generously reward accuracy and good strategy though it is not overly punishing if you are slightly errant. In addition to the course, Sugar Creek G.C. also boasts an expansive practice range with 35 hitting stations.

Now one of my favorite courses to play
Don't let the current 2.5 rating fool you - the condition of Sugar Creek has come a long way from where it was when it actually deserved 2.5 stars. The grounds crew has done a great job to improve course conditions and playability. Fairways and greens were all in great shape. Pace of play was what can be expected on the 4th of July, but is usually very smooth. This week I noticed that a few greens had some repaired areas with new sod, and the greens on 6 and 18 have been fully repaired and re-opened, making your finishing hole a lot more fun! I now consider Sugar Creek to be one of my most favorite courses to play because of its challenging but fun layout, greatly improved conditions, good pace of play, friendly laid-back staff and very playable course conditions, which get better each time I play there. There is little chance of hitting any houses or cars with golf balls, so you can rip your shots and the worst that can happen is that you lose a few balls. I always bring some extra balls when I play Sugar Creek because I tend to lose a few in the woods that line many of the fairways. Give Sugar Creek another shot and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Green's are open.
All the greens are open now. Still need work but better than the temporary ones.
Course is coming together
Course is coming together. Fairways are in great condition. Rough needs a trim along with cart paths. Greens need cut more often and repaired. But overall a great experience!
Under new management
You can’t beat the price, the staff is super friendly! New ownership is putting in some work to make the course better! Saw the owner several times today pointing out things he expected to be fixed! I will most definitely be playing here again!
Nice
Great course, a little aged but nic & well maintained. Lots of challenge.
Improving
Course is getting better. Greens are getting better. Saw a lot of work going on.
Great bang for your buck
You can’t beat $15 for 18 holes with a cart not going to find a better deal
Good Value
Some of the holes are a little quirky but never boring. Course is in good shape and it is a great value for the cost. It wasn't crowded and we enjoyed the round.
Good Course
Very reasonable, challenging to me but I am a new Golfer
All good
Love this course. Very scenic. Challenging. Great bang for the buck.
Making improvements
Course was in fair condition. Greens 6 and 18 were under repair, but that was made aware to us at the clubhouse so no biggie. Fairways could have used a mow, but not horrible. Greens too were a little long and patchy in spots, but again not horrible for the price paid. They seem to be working on the greens so that's good. Neat course with some pretty cool holes. Will play again for sure.
Great Value and Experience
This was our first time playing Sugar Creek and we will go back. Everyone at the clubhouse and on the course was friendly and professional. We talked with several people on the course and they mentioned significant improvements have been made to the condition of the course in the last year. They are still working on two of the greens, but that was a minor impact to the overall round.
My wife and I play for fun, maybe 3-4 rounds per year. It may not be the longest or most difficult course, but there is variety across the holes and they even have a concessions cart out on the course. To play 18 holes with a cart for $20.00 on a course that is in much better condition than some that we have paid $30+ to play, this is a great value and an enjoyable round of golf.
Terrible course conditions
Idk where to start. Yes it’s only 20$ but I would rather go to the range an spend 20$ on buckets then golf here again. There is no difference between the rough an the “fairways”. Multiple greens are not even half way decent surfaces to put on. An I mean bad. There was 2 holes that were under maintence which the flags were in the middle of the fairways with spray paint outlined as the Green. Which I get needed maintnce but the whole course needs it. There was a fairway with dirt an rocks in the middle of the fairway!! I mean comon you guys have a golf course an can’t even maintain it enough to have dirt patches in the fairways!! And rocks!! I didn’t even finish my round I payed 20$ for 9 holes which had some under maintenance. The staff was friendly I will give them that. An at the end of the round said that they were tryin to make it better. But I feel like they should get the golf course right an in shape atleast good enough to make playable before they even let anyone golf there an take their 20$ I will never be back an will never reffer anyone there. Was amazed with how bad it was
Staff goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful.
Worth $20
$20 for 18. Excellent value. Course in better condition than I played last year. Greens coming around. Still need TLC. Cart path in need of repair in many places.
All good
This is a challenging course. Quite a few hazards.
Go Big or Go Home!
Making Some Good Improvements
This golf course has been in pretty bad shape for the past few years, and still has some problems, but they seem to be making good improvements that make the course much more playable than in years past. My friends and I had actually stopped playing at Sugar Creek for the most part 2 years ago because the greens were unputtable, and the course was in very bad shape overall, but this season they seemd to have made a turnaround and are heading in the right direction. There were only a few greens with problems, (only 1 green was unputtable - #5 I believe) and a couple greens that look like they had just been repaired. They had 2 makeshift greens setup in the fairways ajacent to the newly-repaired greens on #6 and #18, but the repaired greens look like they will be nice one they are opened back up. Fairways were not perfect (what course's fairways are perfect?) but they had plenty of grass and are greening up nicely. One improvement that needs to be addressed at some point are the cartpaths, but this did not affect my game, so I don't hold it against them too much. The staff was friendly and the pace of play was normal to above average for such a perfect day. I had a good time playing this pretty challenging golf course. They definitely do need to keep working on the course to get it back to where it was a few years ago, but I'm happy to see that they have made a turnaround, and my friends and I will be playing here more often this season as long as the course condition continues to improve.
Greening up
Good deal for your money. For $14.00 don't expect Pebble Beach and you won't be disappointed.
Great hospitality at this course. Staff is very friendly and definitely improved the course itself with green adjustments, and patchy grass control. Definitely recommend this course for a fun round of golf
