Sugar Creek Golf Course
About
Sugar Creek Golf Course offers some of the best scenery of any course in the St. Louis area. Golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside from the course's elevated tees. The course opened in 1990 with several improvements made in the following years. The layout is a manageable length at just under 6,100 yards. It is player-friendly enough for beginners to approach with confidence but there are also challenges in store for more advanced players. Water only comes into play on one hole but there are stands of trees lining the narrow fairways. The golf course will generously reward accuracy and good strategy though it is not overly punishing if you are slightly errant. In addition to the course, Sugar Creek G.C. also boasts an expansive practice range with 35 hitting stations.

needs a year of tlc
I really enjoyed the course layout the elevation changes it's a really fun track. The greens are just in really bad shape and the rest of the course could use some water I'm sure that if they take care of it it will be a great course in about a year
Awful
I knew I was never coming back on the first hole. The greens might as well be bunkers with all the sand on them. Traps and clay and hard rock. Sand and rocks all over fairways as well. Cart paths barly drivable. Could go on
Bad greens
Greens aren't in good shape. Some of the tee boxes needed work as well. The fairways were decent, but when you're putting on dirt most of the round what's it really worth?
Good value for the money
I played the course with a Hot Deal, so it is a good value. Course is somewhat shorter than others (played the white tees), but is still interesting to play.
Fair ways are mostly okay, but some of the green are in bad shape (to be kind). Some of the greens are covered with weeds and bumpy.
Course marshal is friendly.
Will play again.
Greens are dead
They have lost at least 13 greens. You can not putt No effort to maintain sand traps and many area of the course. Staff cutting grass make no effort to allow you to play through, usually cutting in front of you in your line of play.
great lay out - course needs work
excellent elevation changes, and challenging lay out - fun course to play, many greens are in just HORRIBLE shape - we had to mandate a maximum of 2 putts on several of them - fairways could use some water - This could be a great track with some investment and time.
I would recommend the course to a friend based upon price and lay out- - I would just have to make sure that their expectations for condition were very low
No ready for prime time
I think they will have a good course. I was told it was under new management and they had to replant all the greens last fall. Currently the greens have weeds, erosions and are not puttable. The layout and location are very appealing. It is just not ready for prime time.
Great scenery.
This course has taken some bad raps, so I wanted to voice my opinion. The course was closed last August by the new management. It just reopened in May of 2017. The greens were lost last year and are, in fact, still recovering. Most of the greens on the back nine were okay. The fairways are in great shape. All in all, we only paid $20 for 18 and a cart. (Sr. rate.) I thought it was well worth the $20. The staff was very friendly. I think the new management is working hard on improving this course.
Think it will be great
Seemed that they haven't had a greens keeper look at this course in quite some time, the greens had bald spots that would make the ball bounce, the sand hadn't been raked it looked like ever, overall I was pretty disappointed that I paid to play here,
That being said, I think this course has the potential to be fantastic; fun and challenging, but the quality of fairways and greens needs to be addressed immediately if I'm going to go back.
Needs improvement
This course need drastic improvements to it's conditions. I've never been there in the last four years and seen it in good shape. The cart paths are like going off roading on a Rocky Mountain trail. The price is too high for the quality. I go there once a year hoping it's better because it's across the street from my house.
No greens
Booked on golf now for $25 per person. Arrived Saturday morning and was asked by front desk I had played here recently. I said not in a few years. They said we are only going to charge you $15 because the greens are in rough shape. Come to find out there basically are no greens. They were a mix of long grass and dirt and you can't even putt. Not even worth the $15. They should have to state this on golf know.com. Not lure people in and then reduce the rates when people arrive. Ridiculous.
Very sad
Love this course, it's in bad shape from some misfortunes, but under new owners and hope for good things in a year or two
Hope it can get back to normal
I knew they'd suffered catastrophic damages from flooding over the past year and it's well noted on their literature that conditions have not allowed the desired improvements. So I knew going in that I'd encounter some rough conditions. That being said, the fairways, for the most part played pretty well and should be back in really good condition soon. The course still drains pretty well and since they are in a "rebuilding" mode it was pretty vacant. This was perfect for me to get out for a round by myself with no waiting and no interruptions. Staff is great and the overall setup of the course is a good. The last time implanted here was about two years ago and the course conditions were pretty spot on so I know their team is capable of recuperating the course. With that said, the greens were not greens at all. About 3 or 4 were all I even bothered a serious putt attempt on. The rest I just chipped it close and moved on. They have a lot of wIrk to do but if you're looking to get out and just have some fun or work on other aspects of your game than putting; this is a great spot.
Under Construction
This course is under major repairs. Riverside Golf Course had worse damage than this course during the flood and their course is much better. Most of the fairways aren't being cut (the fairways are like hitting out of the ruff, if you can find your ball). The greens have crabgrass and very long grass. Almost impossible to putt. I love the layout of this course but the maintenance is very poor.
Course Going Downhill
I used to play this course all the time because it was close. It was never the best course but it was a decent course and not too expensive. I played this past weekend for first time in long and it appears that the course conditions have progressively gotten worse since I was last there. There was a note saying the greens are under repair. Yes, they were, several mud spots on the greens, grass was thick where there was grass, putting was pretty close to impossible. The grass on the fairways and the rough was basically the same thing. Cart paths are horrible, deteriorating throughout the whole course. There is an abundance of crabgrass...maybe Sugar Creek should learn to just embrace the crabgrass, that can be their 'thing'
Worst course ever
This is easily the worst course I've ever played on. I was warned before hand that the greens weren't in very good condition, but boy was that an understatement. Like putting on carpet with patches of mud. And that would be forgivable, but the fairways weren't cut amd hitting out of the box was like hitting out of the rough. Wouldn't play here again even if they were giving away free rounds.
Great layout terrible course conditions
This is one of my favorite course layouts in St. Louis. Great risk reward shots elevation changes, and accuracy is a must. With that being said even if you are on that day and hit greens in regulation you may have a 4 putt coming your way. Unless you putt really well through sand and over gopher trails. Some of the fairways are decent but most are patchy and the tee boxes are sketchy as well. However, I think we paid $10 to play so I can not complain too much. I just really wished that someone who knew how to maintain a course would buy this place and make it the great course that it SHOULD BE.
Low Expectations
Have not played this course in years, but certainly they have had some difficulties. The greens on the front 9 are still significantly damaged, the back is slightly better. Barely any yardage markers on the course make it tough to judge. The pricing is very cheep, but fair for the shape the course is in.
