Sugar Creek Golf Course
About
Sugar Creek Golf Course offers some of the best scenery of any course in the St. Louis area. Golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside from the course's elevated tees. The course opened in 1990 with several improvements made in the following years. The layout is a manageable length at just under 6,100 yards. It is player-friendly enough for beginners to approach with confidence but there are also challenges in store for more advanced players. Water only comes into play on one hole but there are stands of trees lining the narrow fairways. The golf course will generously reward accuracy and good strategy though it is not overly punishing if you are slightly errant. In addition to the course, Sugar Creek G.C. also boasts an expansive practice range with 35 hitting stations.

Course in bad conditions
Greens and fairways were in poor condition.
bad shape
I hadn't played here for a couple of years because of poor condition. A friend said it had improved...he lied. Everything needs help: tee boxes, cart paths, fairways, greens.
Great staff, not so great course
Fairness disclaimer - the front nine was still under repair and closed, so it may be better than the back nine. The staff was excellent and the course is easy to reach and nice to drive into. The pro shop staff was super friendly, which is refreshing. Now for the not-so-great. In all fairness, I'm certain they were hit hard from the flooding, so they're probably still recovering. However, there are some obvious improvements that could be made with minimal effort. The greens were way too long, longer than most fringe I've ever played, so putting was like hitting croquet. No finesse, just smash it and hope it gets there. The tee boxes were mostly hard pan. The course setup is confusing to get from #11 to #12, as it's all snaked around a neighborhood (nice one), and needs better signage to get through that area. Not a long course, but the distance was decent enough if you play the blues. Seems like they could go the extra mile with a little fairway manicuring and patch up a few areas and it would like look an A-/B+ course, instead of a C course. I think it has better potential if they put the right effort into the right areas.
Not in good shape
Sand and patches all over most of the greens. Had to play to back 9 twice because the front nine was closed. No water jugs out on the course.
UNDER REPAIR
This course is in the worst of conditions at the moment. They are repairing the greens on the front nine therefore it is shut down till May. But the whole course should be shut down. the back nine greens have to look the same as the front but they probably just can't afford to shut the course down. No way this is worth it until they fix everything.
Not really their fault
Due to the flooding their greens were in pretty bad shape. Cart path was destroyed in places. Signs say they will be Making repairs when weather warms up. Until then I don't think I will be returning. I will most likely give them another try mid summer. I did buy a wedge from the clubhouse
Horrendous course conditions
This course has continually gone downhill in recent years, but it has reached new depths of disrepair. The tee boxes were nothing but dirt and weeds. The fairways were shaggy and had vast bare spots. BUT the greens were the crown jewel of disgust. I have seen better conditions on the infield of a grade school sandlot ball field than these "greens". They were more dirt and sand than grass. One hole, I think it was #6, didn't even have a green. They just stuck a flag in a hole, AT THE END OF THE FAIRWAY!!??
I can not figure out why Golfnow would want this course on their site. This course will become a subdivision in no time at its rapid rate of decay. DON'T GO HERE!!!
Horrendous
Tee boxes and greens(?) were terrible. I have seen more grass on a grade school sandlot ball field than most of these greens. Hole 6 had NO GREEN, just a flag stuck in the fairway in front of the old green. The pace of play was fabulous since we were the only players on the course. This course has been slipping every year but has reached new depths of depravity.
Worst course in the Lou.
Got there found out there was a tournament scheduled and couldn't play. They said they contacted Golfnow to take them off their list but somehow that didn't happen. YOU GET AN "F"!
lost greens
This course has completely lost every one of the greens I am a scratch golfer who has been playing for 30 years and I've never seen anything like it the sand traps are filled with rocks and haven't been raked in months. I asked about getting a rain check to play the course at a different time and was told no I could not. Do not waste your money on this course right now.
Not so green greens
From the dirt tee boxes to the dirt greens, there wasn't too much good grass to play on. I would not pay over $20 to play on this course.
We acknowledge that the course is need of some work and we have begun the process. Please enjoy generous discounts and free round when you check in at the pro shop.
Sugar Creek
The greens were mostly dirt, however, the layout was outstanding. When they get the greens fixed this will be a $75.00 course.

Rough
Saw the "hot deal" tee time on GN for $10 for 18 holes with cart included and thought "wow what a deal". Got there and thought the scenery was phenomenal, but the course and greens not so much. Fairways were bone dry, greens were like the sandlot, and the rough was rough. I understand they are having maintenance so i understand but i think ill come back when it is ready. Long story short, my buddy and I played 12 holes and just rode around on the cart to admire all the scenic views and layouts of the course for the last 6 holes.

Great elevation changes
Layout and elevation changes great. Greans poor, were warned they are in repair, which got so bad we stopped keeping score. Rain check or compinsation would have been in order.

Don't know why this course is even on GN
Every green was like putting on a little league baseball infield, nothing but dirt. Tee boxes were horrible. I will never play there Again even with the free round they gave us. Worst time I ever had playing, total waste of time and money. I don't know why Golf Now even has them as an option to play, it was a total embarrassment for me bringing my guest there...

Horrible condition, the worst I have ever seen
The greens should be called browns. Most had more mud or dead sod than anything else. The few green areas were in very poor condition. Aerating isn't going to help. The course needs to be closed so the greens can be completely redone.
The cart paths are filled with bone jarring pot holes. Even driving extremely slow was painful on my back.
Poor grass in the fairway, but miss it by a foot and it's hard to find a ball in the high Bermuda grass.
Staff was friendly and the course design is terrific. It's a shame it has been neglected for years.
Worst golf course I have ever played!
The course was in very bad condition! the greens were half dirt and half dead sod. It was like putting on a plinko board and were not aerated. Tee boxes were rock hard. No water in the coolers! such a shame cause this course used to be fun. we paid $11 for our round and felt ripped off. It should be free to play there!
Thank you for your feedback about the course, the greens and course have been in very poor condition but we recently hired a while new maintenance staff to take over. In the meantime, enjoy generously discounted rates by booking on our website!
Great coarse layout
The coarse has a great layout but the worse thing going for the coarse is the poor shape of the greens. They need a lot of attention .
We are in the process of aerating the greens so please come back in the next couple weeks! The course will be in much better condition.
Course Conditions
The Greens were in terrible condition. They were
not taken care of at all. Tee Boxes were in bad shape as well, but that is not a huge ordeal. What a beautiful golf course this could be. Very scenic, tight and open,
but just not taken care of. First time back after 2 years
of not playing and nothing has changed!
Thank you for your feedback about the course! We are in the process of doing a lot of maintenance and aerating the greens. We hope you give us another shot!
Terrible greens
A part of me really does like this course but that is why I'm so frustrated. It is a fun designed course and not difficult at all making it a fun course that you can score well at. I have played here numerous times and every time hoping that it will be better than the last, but I am done wishfully hoping. I'm done playing this course. The course is in TERRIBLE SHAPE, especially the greens. And it seems that the condition of the greens does not even cross their mind when choosing the pin placement. The hole will be right in the middle of craters and sandy dead patches of dirt. This course seriously needs some maintenance. The fairways are getting better, slowly but surely compared to other times I've played here, but the greens are just completely beat up and embarrassing
Thank you for your feedback about the course! We're sorry you've been so disappointed with the conditions of the course but we're glad you are able to see the potential. We are doing maintenance this week so we hope you give us another chance!
