About
Mattawang Golf Club has changed very little since it first opened in 1960. The traditional layout has withstood the test of time as a challenging but playable layout. The course was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural setting while still testing your shot-making skills. You won’t find any man-made water hazards or artificial mounding on this golf course, instead you’ll be challenged by natural streams and ponds and mature evergreens. At first glance, the layout is seemingly wide open, but don’t let your guard down because the fairways are actually quite tight and many of them are strategically lined with trees. In keeping with the time it was built, the greens are smaller than those you would find on most modern golf courses and heavily protected by sand traps. Over the years, Mattawang Golf Club has built a reputation for having some of the well maintained putting surfaces in the area.

Wide open layout
Played on a day that was 40 deg. Course was empty with only a 2-some trailing us. We walked course . Decent overall condition for winter. Many Temporary tee boxes due to frozen ground. Greens in good shape but very firm in cold. Course is wide open and forgiving but some par 4’s are long and challenging.
We appreciate you leaving a review. Just to clarify, the greens were frozen, thus firm. Hopefully you will return this spring when we return to our normal conditions.

Great course and value
This course has some really great holes. A short par 4, long par 3, blind tee shot, and more. Tough approaches to the greens as they are usually guarded by bunkers on both sides. For end of December the course played great. Staff was extremely friendly and the women behind the counter was great with handling a pretty busy day. Awesome course.

Best public course in NJ
I was Impressed how this course is well kept. We play in December and the greens were hard and the fairway was a little muddy. But the layout is really good and open. Nice place to play. I would love to play this course in the spring. A must play.

We are glad to see you enjoyed the course. The greens were frozen solid on Monday so that is why they were hard and the fairways were thawing. Please come back in the spring/summer, you will love it then.
Very Average
Your typical public golf course built in the 60s. Very tiny greens.

As a first team (two some), it took 2 hour-45 minute for 18 holes walking. Staffs are friendly as usual and this course becomes a favorite course from our group. Good layout of the course.

Always a good day spent. The layout isn't overly challenging or long, but small greens and a number of bunkers around them never fail to present a challenge. A great walking course and living in Somerset County, it's a nice local option.
