Ocean County Golf Course at Atlantis
About
The Ocean County Golf Course at Atlantis is an 18-hole, public course located in Little Egg Harbor. George Fazio designed the challenging course, which has a yardage of 6,848 at the longest tees with a par of 72. The course also features tree-lined fairways and greens of bent grass and water hazards that come into play on some holes.
Ocean County Golf Course at Atlantis has a particularly tricky 6th hole since there is a pond in the middle of the fairway that you must get past in order to reach the green. The golf course used to be private so it features all the amenities that a private club would have such as a restaurant and pro shop.

Great round in October
I booked this round because I had seen the golf course designer was world renowned and the slope and rating were really tough. The course has generous fairways, but really deceptive green complexes. I was pleasantly surprised by the course conditions. I used every club in my bag and ended up shooting a nice score. I reccomend this for more serious golfers.
Decent public course
Tree lined fairways with some decent, lengthy par 4s. Little dangerous driving across busy road (twice) with cart on front 9. Water holes mostly on back nine with 17th approach over water a tough shot. Had fun round.
Hidden gem in south Jersey
One of my favorite courses at the Jersey shore. Very reasonably priced for a fun 18-hole course. Greens and fairways were in good shape and there are a variety of fun and challenging holes, including some shots over water and a very challenging par-5 No. 17.
October golf
Enjoyed the course, tall grass off fairway has been cut. High marks to grounds crew.
everything was great. was able to hook up with a great guy with similar skill level.
One of NJ's toughest - a shame they won't invest in it
With a little hope for a pleasant surprise, I decided to do my annual recon mission at Atlantis.
Atlantis is a tough, demanding 7000+ yard track (from the tips) that will challenge the best of golfers. A truly great layout with 15-18 being a great stretch to finish a tight match.
Most greens are elevated, undulating and well-bunkered. There are several strategically placed fairway bunkers and a few holes that play over water. The fairways are somewhat tight and some require leaving the driver in the bag off the tee to put the ball in Position A. Like I said, a great layout.
That's the good news!
The bad news is the course is run by the county and not maintained properly.
The greens are never true! Often soft and spongy, making the par saving putts you will likely need to make several times throughout your round is more challenging (usually requiring more luck than skill) due to the condition of the greens. They are often hairy and slow too.
Many of the greens are next to cart paths and a shot that "just misses" will find hardpan and roll until it hits a tree, the woods or worse. If they would just put grass around the greens, the problem would be solved.
I know I'm beating a dead horse here because the course has been in the same shape for nearly 20 years. My guess is, sadly, it will remain this way for the next 20.
Be careful when reading reviews. If the greens aren't "hairy and bumpy", the locals call them "fast and true". FAST is relative and likely means the ball MIGHT make it to the bottom of a slope that it would usually stop on.
Unfortunately, better golfers seeking good, fair challenges should continue to look elsewhere and hope that this course is turned over to a golf management company that would put it into the condition that would let it be enjoyed the way the architect intended.
Fair whether golfer
Course wed in good shape however the fairways were to short, the greens were in great condition, the tee boxes were all being reseeded and there condition was a bad.
Nice layout/Better condition would help
Atlantis is a municipal course with a nice layout. Unfortunately, most of the tee boxes are chewed up. The greens were overall in nice condition and rolled nicely. Lots of trees and thick brush so bring extra balls. The staff is friendly. Atlantis will not likely be your favorite course but if you are in the area looking for a decent place to play, consider Atlantis - especially if you land a Golf Now deal!
Perfect greens
Greens we're in excellent condition. The fairways we're also nice but on the sides of the fairways we're very weedy with patches of dirt.
Disappointed
The guy at the counter was a crouch and made it seem like I was bothering him. Where's Dawn?
Many tee boxes were closed.
They werent pairing well which caused a slow pace. Also seemed they were letting people out on the third and tenth hole.
Nice county course
Overall a nice course. Great layout, challenging and fairsways were in good condition.
A Work in Progress
Conditions were not the best, but at least they were working on the tees. Greens were good. And its a really good layout. Just needs some TLC. and somehow, get rid of the green-head flies.
Course was in the best condition of the last few years.
I play this course a few times a year because I love the layout and great pricing . I wasn't sure what to expect based on recent mixed reviews but was pleasantly surprised.
The tee boxes were a little rough in some cases but the fairways were filled in well except for a few places. The rough was pretty thick and the bunkers could use some work and rakes.
The greens were in the best condition of the last few years. They were still slow and bumpy but better than expected and very puttable once you figured out the speed. I remember last year the greens had a fungus and were barren and terrible, so a huge improvement.
This course plays long from the white tees and very difficult from the back .
Now for the best part . I was a single and the starter was nice enough to allow me out in front of two groups of families playing with young children and told me there were two twosomes out in front of me and I could possibly join them .
Well the twosome was a husband and wife who waved me through in the middle of the par 5 third hole. I caught the next twosome at the fourth hole and they also allowed me through after their tee shots on #5. Rarely do you run into such considerate golfers and I happened to find two groups on the same day . So a big thank you to the starter and the twosomes for being great people!
The course was wide open in front of them but as I said it was very hot and I needed to hydrate and pace myself.
I played the rest of the round at a pleasant pace only seeing a few groups still a few holes ahead of me.
When I got to the 18th tee the group ahead of me was already at the green . Here's the kicker though, the second of the family foursomes was in the middle of the third hole !
I finished in just under 3 hours, thanks to a wonderful starter, a friendly staff, and some very considerate golfers. And the course is very challenging and conditions are continually improving. This is not a Sea View but well worth a visit and hopefully will be even better in the future .
Great value
Paid $39 and it comes with a lunch. Course is in nice shape. Very nice deal. Would do it again. The only down side was the constant swatting of those green head flies that bite.
We had two groups in front of us who played very slow. Both went in for lunch or only played 9 we didn't see any golfer on the back. 3:30 hour front 1:30 back long day. Does anyone fix their ball marks anymore??? Probably the same people that throw trash out their windows on the parkway.
