About

Type Public
Par 71
Length 6624 yards
Slope 116
Rating 71.1

Former president of the PGA of America, Leo Fraser, designed the 18-hole public course at the Mays Landing Golf Club with both advanced and beginning golfers in mind. Touted as the "best birdie for the buck," the Mays Landing golf course provides a great value for all golfers. The course was meticulously designed over 175 acres of beautiful pineland with scenic tree-lined fairways.

Mays Landing Golf Club provides an experience similar to one at a private country club with its excellent service and amenities including a pro shop, restaurant, and PGA instructors on site. On hot days they even have cool towels for you and they always have roaming beverage carts. The course is 6,633 yards at the longest tees, playing to a par of 72.

Fun Course to Play

The course is a fun track to play and was a little rough around the fairways. It was early in the season and the grounds will improve as things bloom and fill out. The grille room was not open yet but the staff was very friendly. I look forward to playing again diring the summer to compare as this was a good value for the money.

Awesome Staff!

I have played here several times. I love the layout of the course. The clubhouse and the bar are beautiful. Unfortunately due to covid it hasn’t been open. The course could be in better shape. I will say that the Pro Shop staff is one of the friendliest in southern NJ!

The money grab continues

To see the layout and pictures of this course on the website, you would think that you would be going to a pristine picturesque golf course. You would be sadly mistaken. From the time you arrive and walk into the pro shop, you see the lack of upkeep and disrepair and lack of supplies. The practice areas out back are overgrown and basically overtaken by weeds where there used to be an immaculate practice facility with two pitching greens and a long putting green. That no longer exists except for the long putting green. Inside the pro shop, if you can even call it that. There are no gloves, balls, shirts, hats basically no accessories at all it is just a place to pay the overpriced fee for this rundown course. You would even be hard pressed to be able to get a bucket of balls for the range, as they never pick them up to return to the ball dispenser. The people working there if you can even say people, because it is usually just one person, are apathetic to the conditions of the course. They are simply there to collect as much money as they can while they sort out their financial troubles in bankruptcy court. It may explain why there is no one else working at the entire operation. The owner was actually getting carts out of the barn the last time I was there a few months ago. There is no snack bar or cart and I found it very tacky and lowbrow that the only way to get a beer or soft drink was out of a couple coolers sitting on the floor next to the payment counter. Similar to being at a friend's barbeque and he just points to the coolers where you serve yourself. Once you get out into the course you are met with crabgrass, dirt, rocks and acorns and leaves in the traps and pothole filled muddy cart paths. There is no ranger to speak of or anyone maintaining any pace of play if you happen to get a group in front of you that is slow. Although at this point in this courses tenure, there aren't really that many people playing here because of the conditions of this devastated course. Many of the devoted members could no longer tolerate the downslide of the courses condition, and have moved to other local courses for their memberships. The women's league that used to play weekly, moved to another course after repeated complaints went unaddressed and we're basically told that it did not matter if they left. Groups of regulars that frequented the course and the bar almost daily, were treated as if they were a bother. So, they moved to another course as well. It used to be an amazing place to play and hang out and have lunch and enjoy their restaurant and atmosphere. The bartenders and pro shop staff used to be friendly and outgoing and they slowly got rid of all of that and is now just down to one person who collects the money and hoses off the golf carts. there is not even anyone to take your bag or clean your clubs when arriving and leaving. I would compare it to a county course but a county course is 100 times better than this. This is like coming by your buddy's field, where he lets you hit a few golf balls. Don't waste your time or money coming to this place until the owners either sell to someone who cares about running a golf course or realize that they are just destroying this courses great legacy.

It is really embarrassing that they can even have the ability to take your money while doing absolutely nothing to improve this decaying facility.

Simply look at all of the open tee times . That should explain everything.
