Mays Landing Golf Club
About
Former president of the PGA of America, Leo Fraser, designed the 18-hole public course at the Mays Landing Golf Club with both advanced and beginning golfers in mind. Touted as the "best birdie for the buck," the Mays Landing golf course provides a great value for all golfers. The course was meticulously designed over 175 acres of beautiful pineland with scenic tree-lined fairways.
Mays Landing Golf Club provides an experience similar to one at a private country club with its excellent service and amenities including a pro shop, restaurant, and PGA instructors on site. On hot days they even have cool towels for you and they always have roaming beverage carts. The course is 6,633 yards at the longest tees, playing to a par of 72.

Friendly staff, good food, worst cow pasture of a golf course. Not worth the low fee.
Great local course
Course is in good shape. Great value for the Jersey shore. Helpful staff.
One of the worst
Terrible conditions. They have lost this course. Very hard ground and crabgrass just about everywhere. There is more crabgrass than grass in the fairways. The greens are in rough shape as well, and a lot of pitch marks that many "golfers" don't fix. Crabgrass around the greens made it very difficult to putt from the fringe or chip. The bright spot - there were a lot of water jugs on the course, which was great on a hot day. Final analysis, go play elsewhere. Oh, did I mention the crabgrass?
Crab grass
80% of the fairways were crabgrass. 10% fairway grass. 10% dirt.
I guess most other golfers new of the condition because I was able to play in three hours
Still needs lots of work
The course is in very bad shape. Most fairways have little or no grass, except crabgrass and weeds. Greens are slow
and in very bad shape. We had to move our balls on the greens to find grass to putt on. Most bunkers had grass and weeds growing in them.
The course is laid out very nicely, the staff friendly and pace of play good because there were not many golfers playing the course.
They need to invest money to improve the course to make it competitive with the other courses in the area.
What a shame
It’s a shame that the course is in such bad shape. I’m sure with the play the course gets more funds should be put in upkeep. Please water the fairways and greens.
Got worse instead of better
I played this course about 2 months ago and was pleased to see the improvements. I know it has been hot but the conditions that are now present are terrible and due to a lack of maintenance. When an elderly starter is dragging hose to water you know something is wrong.
Fairways are bare and what is not bare has crabgrass.
Tee boxes were crusty and loaded with crabgrass.
The greens were crusty in a lot of spots and a few were totally gone and were sand capped.
Some spots around the greens had real grass but was in dire need of being mowed. Sand traps were a brown hard sand, not very accommodating if you were in a trap which needed to be raked and manicured.
There was one worker on the course cutting the so called fairways around 4 pm. and that was all of the maintenance we saw.
There was no drinking water on the course.
Our cart broke down on the third hole and the group behind us also had a cart break down.
At best this was a $20.00 course due to the conditions.
I do not want to hear conditions were due to extreme weather as I drove past 2 other course to get there and they appeared to be in great shape.
Next time I will use google earth to check out conditions.
Play in your backyard instead!
The course has seriously decreased in quality over the years and this summer has been particularly poor. Keep in mind I have gone twice this summer only on a hot deal ($35 total) and I still believe I overpaid. 3 greens are completely submerged in sand making putting virtually impossible and the remaining greens you are dealing with dead patches that they kindly spray painted green or aerated very poorly. Throughout the greenery that would be labeled as “fairways” and “fringes” you can find more sand, crabgrass, and dead patches. Also, if you are not lucky enough to lay up on the “fairway”, good luck finding your ball and hitting out of hard sand and rocks that will do some damage to your clubs. Im no golf snob by any means, just a local guy looking for a fun round, but the state of this course today was so unacceptable that i wont be returning for quite awhile. My recommendation is that you pay 10-15extra bucks for a way better experience within the vicinity, both course and player wise.
This course in bad shape
This course is in bad shape. There are no fairways, it's all crabgrass. Bunkers in bad shape. Many greens were diseased and you couldn't roll a straight putt. They charge way too much considering the shape of the course. The golf cart died after 7 holes too. I'll be spending my money elsewhere , they won't see me until they improve the course.
Had a smooth round, pace of play was good, a couple greens need work but overall great value.
VERY POOR SHAPE
I would not go back to this course. The fairways were weeds and dirt patches. Tee boxes only slightly better. Most of the greens weren't good either. We were extremely disappointed and will not be back.
Terrible Customer Service
Terrible customer service just a poor experience. They were not helpful and didnt care for us, even after we spent over 100 dollars at thier bar on food and drinks. Would not recommend shooting here. We tried countless times to get a raincheck after only shooting 2 holes but they where not having it. Even just for 9 holes they would not let us have it.
Lack of course maintenance
The clubhouse and staff were welcoming but after that there wasn't anything else to write home about. Nothing on the course was maintained. Fairways had more crab grass then any course I have ever played on. No fringe and greens were horrible. We were on vacation from New York and after the 2nd hole wished we didn’t wasted 4 hours of our vacation playing and that’s ashame because our family loves golf
Love this course but!!!
Have always loved this course layout is great, staff awesome, course well let just say we needed to play lift and place.
Not sure what’s going on but it stinks love layout. .But not going to chose this course anytime soon. Just not in good enough shape.
Course Conditions
I have played Mays Landing numerous times over the last 5 years. It’s a fun course, with reasonable pace of play in the afternoon. There’s generally an active cart girl on the course for drinks, and they have a nice area at the turn as well.
The course has had issues with conditions, I played 9/2018 and it was abysmal, but for the better part of the last year it’s been in reasonable shape.
Unfortunately, the course was in pretty horrendous shape this past week. The summer traffic has officially caught up with the course. The fairways were in very poor condition, with large patches of long, uncut grass and pretty shaggy but sparse rough as well.
The greens have always been a bit on the fair to poor side generally they are soft and spongy, as well as long. That was definitely the case, with a few greens having lost good portions to blight.
Overall the course is not worth $40 currently, $20-25 fine, I’ll gladly put up with the conditions at that price.
