Very nice. Excellent greens.
No spectacular views, but the greens were excellent and the fairways nice. I've never played a par 6 before. Very enjoyable.
Fun Day
Another twosome booked same tee time through GOLFNOW.com and we joined them. FUN DAY!!!
Excellent greens and condition
I have been playing this course every summer for about 13 yrs now
It's in the best shape ever!
Plus the 19th hole guys are very friendly and make awesome fresh food
Very reasonable prices
I can't say enough of how much better the course and staff is now compared to 13 yrs ago
Quality course.
I play this course loads of times and I can honestly say it never gets old. This is not too difficult of a course, but it has sharp doglegs and numerous elevation changes that add to the overall quality of the course. It's known for it's par 6 and that is definitely a fun hole. The course is twenty minutes from Asheville and is definitely worth the drive. Great views and friendly clubhouse managers make playing here much more enjoyable. I would recommend this course to any golfer looking for a quality round and great value for the money!!
Good course for the money. Cool in the summer.
Love to play here in the summer. Higher elevation makes it cool. Scenic mountain setting.
Best shape of the year
Black Mountain has had some drainage and general upkeep problems over the past two years but those have been largely resolved this summer. The course is in the best shape in recent memory. Growth in the creeks has been cut back and with few exceptions, the greens look and putt great.
Beautiful setting. Great value!
Excellent condition but a little wet due to heavy rains the night before. Friendly staff. Enjoyed the #17 par 6. Definitely will play again and recommend to my friends.
Good course for the money
Staff good. Course good in general but sand traps poor. Played in 4 hours and would have been quicker but behind a fivesome. Good time.
greens in great shape
The greens were in great shape but slow, fairways were nice and lush
compact course with a stretch
Black Mountain is a pleasure to play. It has very reachable par 4s, challenging par 3s, and one of the longest holes in the country (nearly 750 yards) - all surrounded by beautiful mountain vistas. Several holes require detailed shot plans. For instance, a moderate driver will find a narrow but ball-catching stream on the otherwise easy 460 yard hole #2. Hole #12, with its blind uphill dogleg configuration, will eat shots that stray only slightly to either side. This is a fun course - with enough challenge for average players.
Had a difficult time finding the tee boxes
This course layout was as though the design was to fit as many holes in a small area as possible. The greens were in bad condition and you couldn't read them and I really had a difficult time knowing where the fairways were. The fairways were not cut properly. I felt as though I was playing in a cow pasture. I am glad I only paid $22 for green fees.
Fun and challenging course
Could not comment on the food and beverage, it was closed at our time of being there due to a contract dispute.
There was a meandering creek throughout the course that gobbled up a few of our errant shots.
The bent grass was a great relief after playing a week on brown bermuda in Georgia.
The par 6 was very interesting!
course was great,staff not.
The pro shop tried to charge again green fee that I had already payed to golfnow and then was very rude getting reimbursed.
Average course in a nice setting
Greens were in good shape, tees need attention. It is an average course that could be better with maintenance. Decent for the price. A good course for women, rating of 117 from the reds. We played in Oct. 2013, next week the fall colors will be in full color.
All the courses in Western NC have suffered massive rainfall this summer.
Black Mountain is in relatively good shape even with many wet spots in fairways and the staff made sure we were welcomed. The par 6 seventeenth hole makes the trip worthwhile, just to say you played it. Donald Ross design always makes for a challenging round under any conditions.
My first NC golf.
The terrain was a bit too much for me to walk, but many locals did. The layout is classic, very few sand bunkers, a creek or two to navigate, the bent grass greens priceless...wonderful, a pleasure to behold from this S.Florida golfer.
Challenging Layout
It's hard to judge this course critically because of all the bad weather we've been having in the NC mountains this year. The course was extremely wet, and conditions suffered. The greens and elevated fairways are well maintained, but the holes in low lying terrain are nearly unplayable. I'm sure if we can get a break from the heavy rains, this course would live up to its Donald Ross heritage, and be an enjoyable challenge. Staff is friendly.
Nice public course to play
With all the rain in that area course was in great shape, staff was super. Next time I am in the area I will play it again, hope that it's not as wet.
Nice course with a long hole!
The course is a mixture of some long holes (225 yard par 3; 700+ Par 6!) and short ones, two par 3's that play less then 100 yards, several 300-325 par fours. Pace of play is easy to keep going as fairways/primary rough are wide for the most part with very little OB. Greens ran true both times played, fairways were maintained well. Over all this course is a nice place to play (especially w/hot deal) although a bit far for me. If you are within 30 minutes though, you should play it and not simply for the gimmick of a par 6, this course is much more then 1 hole.
Slow Play
Very slow play, probably not course's fault. Cart path only, several foursomes of Seniors in front of us and took forever to walk from cart to ball, hit less that 100 yards, walk back to cart, pull up a little bit, walk back to ball. You get the idea. Certainly dampened our enthusiasm for playing this course again.
