Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

Love this place
Staff is incredibly nice and accommodating. Course is challenging and fun enough for all skill levels of golfers. For the weather that we have had in the last couple of months, course was in much better shape that I have seen most courses in the Triangle.
Good not great
Reasonable course. Should not be more that $50. Doesn't drain well. Soggy in some spots. Edges of fairway bare in a few spots. No other option in Cary for the public
Don't play this course in the winter
There is a reason it gets nicknamed "Swampmere". I played on a perfect day for weather but the course was mud. Fairways were winter time so they were dormant (which is expected) but even in the middle of the fairway you were basically hitting off of packed mud. Not worth the money.
I am an average golfer but it is a tight course with lots of water and trees lining all the holes. Hit them straight or play somewhere else.
Nice Course
Unfortunately, the course was still wet from rain the week before..
Great layout and course
Lochmere is a great course and easy to walk if you're a walker. When playing during the winter with lots of rain - it is a wet course and doesn't drain well when the plants/trees and grass aren't growing. That said, generally the fairways do drain well - and the greens are phenomenal. The day we played (Feb 2022) it had just rained the day before and it was wet in spots on the fairways. The greens were in great shape. Nice, fast and true.
Cart path only
Still really wet on the course. Greens were wonderful but the majority of the tee boxes were really wet. Hard to keep your stance
Shouldn't have been open
Admittedly, my experience is partially my fault as I went to play the day after it rained...but the course had zero business being open that day. Sopping wet, large puddles in every fairway, wherever the ball landed it immediately plugged. Came to find after my round it has a reputation for poor drainage. Layout is fine enough. Don't play here if there's been rain in the last week.
Great property!
Staff are very kind and helpful. Love the course, some tight fairways, great undulation in the greens that left me scratching my head. Hats off to the SI. Maybe more drainage in the fairways could clear the easily? May cause the streams to overflow? Not an engineer. I digress, thank you for such a nice facility. Quite conveniently located for me and nice to be open to the public.
Great course for price
Played here many times, and overall it is solid. Main downsides are if it has rained recently it will still likely be wet in a lot of places and the pace of play can be slow sometimes. Other than that, greens are in solid shape and the course is fun.
Good for average weekend golfer
Just wet and slow usually but if that’s not a problem then having fun and playing well is quite easy. Wouldn’t recommend for someone that takes golf seriously.
Don’t play it after its rained
Overall a nice course but the 3 times I’ve played this course has been after rain. This course does not drain well at all and you’ll be playing a lot of wet shots. Apart from that it’s a nice course, doesn’t play particularly long but we’ll placed trees and bunkers make you think about some shots.
Excellent Course When Dry!
Excellent course but drainage wet conditions still exist which makes the course conditions ratings low. Other than that a great course!
