Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

Good value
This is your standard public course. Tee boxes are mostly sand, but fairways and greens are nice. I have not played here after rain, but from what I gather it’s a swamp if anything significant falls the days before your round.
I love the layout of this course. Every tee shot is tight and makes you second-guess driver even from the backs. The tree-lined fairways always seem to pop the ball out to the fairway every fourth arrant shot, which is nice. Water comes into play on several holes, again making club selection a priority. Pace of play can be hit or miss, as the course hosts several tournaments and outings during the week. Check before going.
Can’t beat overall value of this course and will be playing it many many times this summer.
Golf
Played behind high school golf team and they were very slow for 9 holes...wish we could have started on the back nine
Not yet in great condition, but not bad either
Playing with my grandson as a twosome at noon on a Wednesday, I would have expected a fairly quick round, but was surprised to find the course very crowded , so pace of play was slow. As for the course, the greens were a bit sandy but quite playable. Some of the tee boxes however were very thin with little or no grass at all. Fairways too , were a little thin in places, but again, very playable. All in all , once the grass comes in better, it will be a good place to play
Not For Me
For the price I expected a facility, practice range and golf course to be in top shape. The range mats are beat to death. The facility is beyond dated and the course was mostly mud. Granted it has rained a bunch, but the course does not drain. Bottom line, Not for Me.
Not well taken care of
We played early in the morning on a Wednesday and the pace of play was really good (3.5 hours). The greens were in good shape and they had some tricky pin placements that made the approach shots difficult. The tee boxes were worn out with not much grass and it seemed the markers for the different sets of tees had not been moved in a while so you were definitely happy to be able to put it on a tee.
The fairways were dry and hard, with multiple areas under repair. The course is flat but the fairways are tight so it’s challenging to put yourself in a good position off the tee. Bunkers were in good shape with just the right amount of sand. We were a little surprised there was no starter at the first hole to make sure things run smoothly. No beverage cart either so they are definitely keeping the costs down as much as they can.
Would I play it again? Yes, probably because its so convenient but that would be the only reason.
Crusty
This is the only course that is either soaked or a dry crusty river bed feeling track. Greens were a little sandy but the bunkers were well maintained. Overall a fun track just needs a little more work to get higher rating. The practice area has the worst mats I personally have ever seen, must stay packed, time for a change.
The course is really suffering from poor maintenance. Needs a lot of help.
Goat ranch
No grass at all on the Tees.
Very little grass ln the fairways.
Greens were in pretty good shape.
Poor condition
Birthday gift to family member, however
Course was overbooked t time was delayed 30 min, college tournament had been scheduled, course was cart path only, many walkers, front “9” played in 3 hrs., asked for rain check for back 9, and was. refused since I’d purchased special on line.
